Vernon Davis, 49ers –
Injuries to Antonio Gates and Aaron Hernandez, along with Jermichael Finley's perpetual case of the dropsies, thin the top of the TE rankings. Davis served notice he belongs in that rarified air by dominating the Lions in prime time; let's hope Alex Smith remembers where his bread is buttered.

Aaron Hernandez, Patriots –
A high ankle sprain suffered while blocking will knock Hernandez out of the lineup for a month, maybe more. Good news for Gronk (and Wes Welker), not so good for those banking on Hernandez upping his numbers in 2012.

Dennis Pitta, Ravens –
Through two games the most targeted tight end in the NFL is... Dennis Pitta? He's taken all of Ed Dickson's looks and replaced Anquan Boldin as Joe Flacco's short yardage security blanket.

Fred Davis, Redskins –
Davis' lack of production is a by-product of Robert Griffin III's success; he's throwing deep, he's running with the ball... and he's ignoring Davis.
