The reference chart below lists each team’s per game averages (given up and faced) for tackle opportunities (TOs), solo tackles & assists. Each team's base defensive scheme, and defensive coordinator is also listed.
The two tackle opportunities statistics in the reference chart are color coded to identify tackle opportunities that are average (highlighted in yellow), below average (highlighted in red) & above average (highlighted in green). Tackle opportunities are based on this year's stats. Basically, if your LB is facing a RED team then it isn't a good matchup, conversely a GREEN team would be a good matchup. The historical average since 2000 for TOs is 50 (highlighted in yellow), anything 49 or less will be in red and anything above 51 will be in green.
Average solo tackles and assisted tackles given up and recorded adds a bit of perspective by allowing users to see how teams are taking advantage of the tackle opportunities that they are facing. Tackle opportunities are described as rushing attempts & pass completions faced plus sacks given up. Average tackle opportunity stats are derived from data provided by NFLData.com.
