The wild card round saw two road teams each year for a streatch before all the home teams won in 2011 (the strike year) and then only Seattle won last season. Home field is important but what impacts 2013 is that some really good teams ended up with wildcards because of the division they were in like the 49ers and Chiefs.

The divisional round always witnesses at least one road team win and in past years there could be two. The most recent trend has been three of four years with just one visitor winning.

Considering that these pit the best records in the NFL at home against lesser teams, the incidence of a road team winning is extremely high. In the last 13 seasons, nine times there was one road team win and three times both home teams won. The only time that both road teams won was just last year - very rare.

What will be interesting to see is that the Championship game is at least favored to be played in either Denver or New England, Seattle or Carolina. The AFC game is very likely to have at least cold weather if not inclement. The NFL should be decent enough barring say the Eagles or Packers advancing that far.

Safest bet is one vistor wins in this round.
