Prediction: NYG 20, WAS 24 (Line: NYG by 1.5)

UPDATE: Brandon Jacobs is ruled out this week because of his knee. Peyton Hillis should be called up but lacks fantasy relevance. Jordan Reed is questionable to play but was able to participate in limited practices all week. He is tentatively expected to play but could end up a game time decisions pending passing all his tests by Sunday. This is the late game on Sunday though so make sure he is cleared by game time. If he status is not clear by first or second round of games on Sunday he could be a problem. But he is expected to play by all reports.

This is the first meeting between these divisional rivals and it greets both teams as being major disappointments. The 4-7 Giants started to look like they were coming together finally but then lost to the visiting Cowboys last week. The 3-7 Redskins are on a two game losing streak and never looked worse than they did on Monday night when the 49ers crushed them. There have been open questions about both teams no longer connecting with their coaches and both quarterbacks are far more ineffective than they were in 2012.

NYG @ WAS Rush Catch Pass
QB Eli Manning 220,1
RB Rashad Jennings 90,1 3-20
WR Victor Cruz 5-60
WR Rueben Randle 3-50,1
PK Josh Brown 2 FG 2 XP

Pregame Notes: The only time the Giants are going to be favored for the rest of the season will be in the two meetings with the Redskins if in fact that happens. The rushing effort has been much better in recent weeks but the passing offense bears no resemblance to past seasons and that is without any bad weather games yet. The defense has seemingly improved but also been fortunate recently playing against teams missing important starters due to injury. The Giants may be on their fourth center of the season as well depending on whether Jim Cordle can play with a partially torn patellar tendon.

QUARTERBACKS: This has been like Manning-lite. Since the season opener when he last came up big, Eli Manning has not thrown more than two touchdowns in any game and often struggles to pass for more than 200 yards. His torrid pace of interceptions did slow down but Manning is just unable to make this passing offense respond.

RUNNING BACKS: This will be the first week that Andre Brown plays on the road but he logged two 100+ yard efforts in the last three weeks and scored once on the Raiders. Brandon Jacobs stole a touchdown in week 11 and turned in 75 yards on nine carries against the Cowboys last week. This is a decent rushing offense finally after spending most of the season just trying to get a first down. Brown is the only reliable player here but Jacobs can show up against a soft defense as well.

WIDE RECEIVERS: Hakeem Nicks was held out against the Cowboys because of an abdominal strain and his status this week may not be known until game time. He's never scored this year though and spends most weeks around 50 yards. Rueben Randle is the scoring receiver with six touchdowns on the year but his yardage tends to be rather low and rarely tops 50 yards in any game. A good example of where this offense has degraded to is with Victor Cruz who opened the year with 118 yards and three scores on the Cowboys. Last week he only managed two catches for 27 yards against them in a loss at home. This is just not an effective group this year and it seems to be more than Manning merely not having enough time to throw.

TIGHT ENDS: Brandon Meyers only scored twice this year and both came in games against the Cowboys. Otherwise he is limited to around 30 yards in most games and twice never had a catch.

MATCH TO THE DEFENSE: The Redskins defense is nothing special to be sure but neither is the Giants offense. In both cases, it is one of the worst offenses facing one of the worst defenses but that doesn't mean Manning is going to bloom here in week 13 of the season. The last four road games by the Giants resulted in only a combined two passing touchdowns and never more than one in a game. The Skins have a weaker rushing defense - though better at home. This is where the only reliable success should be found. Andre Brown is a decent start this week but Manning, Cruz and Randle are a risk for mediocre stats even in this attractive match-up.

WAS vs NYG Rush Catch Pass
QB Robert Griffin III 40 230,1
RB Alfred Morris 100,1
WR Pierre Garcon 5-70
WR DeSean Jackson 5-50
WR Santana Moss 2-30
WR Andre Roberts 3-50
WR Aldrick Robinson 3-30
TE Jordan Reed 6-60,1
PK Kai Forbath 1 FG 3 XP

Pregame Notes: The loss to the 49ers was just ugly and damaging beyond the mere scoreboard. The Skins never managed a touchdown and there were open questions about HC Mike Shanahan losing the team and if Robert Griffin should even be playing because he still is not 100% healthy. This week needs to be a win because the rest of the schedule only gets tougher. The season is lost and maybe even the coaching staff at the end of the year. This is a chance to bounce back from an embarrassing loss. If they drop this game too, it will get really ugly quick.

QUARTERBACKS: Robert Griffin III only managed 127 pass yards on the 49ers and his role as a runner has been in decline for the last five games. Griffin still has not scored via a run and has just 14 touchdowns on the season. He also needs to break the pattern where his best games are all on the road and his worst efforts happen at home.

RUNNING BACKS: Alfred Morris was on a nice streak of 90+ yard games until last week and he'll bounce back against the Giants. Morris never catches the ball but he has been moderately good with yardage if not a touchdown in nearly every game this year. Of course his totals would be much higher were it not for the six scores that were given to Roy Helu and Darrel Young over two games.

WIDE RECEIVERS: Leonard Hankerson is gone and Aldrick Robinson never caught any of his three passes as a starter. Pierre Garcon is the only productive wideout and even he only brings in around 50 or 60 yards in most games and scored only three times this year - all on the road. This unit is never any better than the defense it faces and usually not that good. And worse yet is that they are producing less as the season progresses.

TIGHT ENDS: Jordan Reed was out last week with a concussion but there is hope he can clear the tests and return here. In his place Logan Paulsen never had a catch against the 49ers. Reed is second only to Garcon in the number of targets and catches. I will assume he can return and adjust if needed.

MATCH TO THE DEFENSE: The Giants pass defense is not nearly as good as their ranking suggests. They lucked into facing Josh Freeman, Terrelle Pryor. Matt Barkley and Scott Tolzien to hold down the stats. Otherwise every opponent has thrown for two or three touchdowns and solid yardage. The Giants have only allowed six scores to running backs but five runners have topped 80 yards against them. Morris is a strong start this week with Garcon and Reed worst consideration as moderate plays.
