Prediction: WAS 17, ATL 31 (Line: ATL by 6)

Update: Both Roddy White and Tony Gonzalez were limited in all practices but no differently than in previous weeks. They are still expected to play same as last week. Jordan Reed is questionable to play but never practiced and is not expected to play this week and perhaps no more this year.

Here is a game that just makes the sad tuba sound. The 3-10 Redskins are on a five game losing streak, just benched their star quarterback while the head coach fends off questions about quitting/getting fired and they are only 1-5 in road games. The 3-10 Falcons are 2-4 at home but have finally started to play better and are no longer the worst team in the NFL (probably now the Redskins).

WAS @ ATL Rush Catch Pass
QB Kirk Cousins 250,2
RB Alfred Morris 60
WR Pierre Garcon 5-70
WR DeSean Jackson 6-110,2
WR Santana Moss 3-40
WR Andre Roberts 2-30
WR Aldrick Robinson 3-50,1
TE Logan Paulsen 3-40,1
PK Kai Forbath 1 FG 2 XP

Pregame Notes: Not good. The Redskins are in a tailspin having lost almost all offensive punch and Mike Shanahan benched Robert Griffin III last week in a move some think was as much about retaining power and marginalizes Griffin than it was about winning a game. Or any game for that matter. Two road games remain and one home stand against the Cowboys. This all smacks of a new coach next year, the only question is if the current one makes it to the offseason.

QUARTERBACKS: Robert Griffin III has not been nearly so good this year. He threw only two touchdowns over the last three weeks and just gets worse. He was benched after only completing 12 of 26 passes versus the Chiefs. He's also being sacked at a rapid rate. After only giving up 14 sacks over the first eight weeks, he's been taken down 24 times in just the last five games.

Shanahan has said he is considering giving Kirk Cousins the start and I'll project for that until more is known.

RUNNING BACKS: Alfred Morris also feels the pinch of a team in rapid decline. He was churning out around 80 to 100 yards per game and scoring about every other week until a month ago. Now he scored just once in the last five weeks and over his recent three home games only averaged 38 yards per game. Morris is not getting the volume of carries to matter but that could change this week against the weakest defense he has face in a while.

WIDE RECEIVERS: The pathetic passing stats take their toll here and it was never that good anyway. Pierre Garcon is the only wideout with any fantasy value and even he has scored just once in the last nine weeks and rarely tops 70 yards in a game anymore. The rest never score and rarely have more than one catch.

TIGHT ENDS: Jordan Reed missed the last three games with a concussion and may end up just shut down for the rest of the way. Reed's concussion has not improved enough to pass the tests and it is a cause for concern. Logan Paulsen fills in and scored once in each of the last two games along with around 40 yards in each.

MATCH TO THE DEFENSE: This is really hard to project because the Skins may have a new quarterback, may be tanking the season already and may have no head coach in any given moment. There is nothing happening here that speaks to more motivation to win. The Falcons are plenty weak in all aspects of their defense and while that doesn't ensure a win, it would mean better performances by the Redskins across the board if there were not such bad dynamics right now. The only play is Morris as a barely moderate running back. The starting quarterback should do well but this is just a team in turmoil. All are at risk.

ATL vs WAS Rush Catch Pass
QB Matt Ryan 260,2
RB Steven Jackson 80,1 1-10
WR Harry Douglas 5-80
WR Roddy White 8-100,1
PK Matt Bryant 1 FG 4 XP

Pregame Notes: There is no denying that the Falcons are playing better even though the losing has not stopped. The offense is posting yards and points again with both Steven Jackson and Roddy White looking healthy. The defense is still a sore spot but that may not be the case this week in the last decent chance that the Falcons have for a win. Facing the 49ers and Panthers in the final two game seemed exciting last summer, now it just looks like a couple of beatdowns to end the year.

QUARTERBACKS: Matt Ryan is not throwing for as many points as he was in the first half of the season but that reflects a better ground game and the Falcons are not throwing with wild abandon as much. Ryan hasn't produced a three touchdown game since week seven and thrown just eight scores over the most recent seven games.

RUNNING BACKS: Steven Jackson is averaging around 70 rush yards per game over the last three weeks and scored three times in that span. Antone Smith scored twice but then was never used last week. Jacquizz Rodgers rarely gets more than five touches per game and no longer is relevant. Jackson is ending the year on a far better note than it started but he's still is only a moderate fantasy play at best.

WIDE RECEIVERS: Roddy White still only scored once all year but after posting ten catches for 143 yards in Buffalo, he followed that up with eight receptions for 74 yards in Green Bay. That is more than double all other games combined. Harry Douglas was held to only 20 yards in Green Bay but was a lock for 70+ yards in each of the previous seven weeks. This is easily the best the passing game has looked all year.

TIGHT ENDS: Tony Gonzalez is watching his final three games come at him but at least he scored in each of the last two weeks. His yardage totals have been anemic for the last two months and he's going out on a much more quiet note than if he had retired in 2012.

MATCH TO THE DEFENSE: The Redskins defense has languished as a bottom ten unit in all categories all year. Now factor in the turmoil between the starting quarterback, owner and coach and this should be a good game that the Falcons can both post points and win. The final two games are going to make these players untouchable but this week consider Ryan, Jackson, White, Gonzalez and Douglas all worth considering.
