WEEK 16 ARI at SEA DEN at HOU NE at BAL PIT at GB
CHI at PHI IND at KC NO at CAR TB at STL
CLE at NYJ MIN at CIN NYG at DET TEN at JAC
*UPDATED DAL at WAS MIA at BUF OAK at SD ATL at SF (MON)

Prediction: NYG 10, DET 34 (Line: DET by 10)

Update: Brandon Pettigrew is out this week because of his ankle. Calvin Johnson was held out on Wednesday and Thursday but was back for a full day on Friday and will play. As expected, Victor Cruz is out.

The 5-9 Giants are on a two game losing streak and are 2-5 in road games. The 7-7 Lions have lost two straight to jeopardize their chance of reaching the playoffs. At home against a team that has been shutout twice this year should be enough for the Lions to notch a win.

NYG @ DET Rush Catch Pass
QB Eli Manning 220,1
RB Rashad Jennings 70,1 3-20
WR Victor Cruz
WR Jerrel Jernigan 4-50
WR Rueben Randle 3-40,1
PK Josh Brown 1 FG 1 XP

Pregame Notes: The Giants wind down a bad season but at least they host the Redskins in the finale for an excellent chance for a win before the offseason. Coming off a shutout where Eli Manning threw five more interceptions is a sign that this offense never improved, never met expectations and has apparently just gone stale. Even when the same players are healthy is doesn't work. The last time they were shutout (week 3) they bounced back to score only seven points the next week.

QUARTERBACKS: The only questions with Eli Manning is if he can thrown the one touchdown or not, and how many interceptions will it cost? His 25 picks so far lead the entire NFL and compare to only 16 touchdowns. This hellish year was never under control by Manning and the two-time Super Bowl MVP looked more like just another bad quarterback on a bad team.

RUNNING BACKS: Peyton Hillis suffered a concussion last week and may not play. Michael Cox will fill in if needed. Andre Brown finally met a decent defense for the first time this year and only gained 17 yards on 11 runs though he did turn four receptions into a whole nine yards. Brown was solid enough in his other starts though and it is mostly a question of volume of carries.

WIDE RECEIVERS: Because what this team really needed was a bigger challenge, Victor Cruz suffered a concussion in the loss to the Seahawks and may not play again this year. The Giants called up Julian Talley from the practice squad and Jerrel Jerrigan stepped up to a career best seven catches for 67 yards but he's never scored in any of his three seasons in the NFL. Hakeem Nicks has never scored either though he varies from as high as 142 yards down to no catches each week. Rueben Randle was on a scoring stretch for five games but has never been back in the endzone for over a month now.

There are the occasional good games here. But there are far more fantasy killers and no consistency or reliability.

TIGHT ENDS: Brandon Myers was on a three game scoring steak until last week but even then he was only averaging around 40 yards per game. Short of facing a weak defense he has no fantasy value and even when he does score there is marginal yardage attached.

MATCH TO THE DEFENSE: Matching up is less about the Lions defense that has allowed no passing scores in the last two home games as it is about what offense shows up. The Giants are without Cruz who was their best player .Chances are that Manning might throw one score and it will end up with a wideout. The Lions rushing defense remains top notch and prevented any running back scores for the last five home games. There is no one on the Giants worth a start this week, not even Brown.

DET vs NYG Rush Catch Pass
QB Matthew Stafford 270,2
RB Joique Bell 40 2-20
RB Reggie Bush 100,1 4-20
WR Calvin Johnson 7-120,2
WR Golden Tate 4-60,1
TE Joseph Fauria 2-20
TE Brandon Pettigrew
PK Alex Henery 2 FG 4 XP

Pregame Notes: Two losses in a row suddenly force the Lions from being a league leader to now scratching and clawing just to stay in the race. Especially in a home game. The season finale is in Minnesota where a win should happen - should the operative word - but this week has to be a win or the season is already over. The Lions could not ask for a better matchup.

QUARTERBACKS: After seven straight weeks with multiple touchdowns, Matthew Stafford only managed 151 yards and no scores in the blizzards of Philly and 235 yards and just one touchdown back on Monday versus the Ravens. The entire team was and Calvin Johnson dropped more than one pass. There is no margin for error anymore and the Giants are weak. This needs to be a big win for Stafford.

RUNNING BACKS: As long as Reggie Bush is at home, he is always productive. Always. A total of 100 yards is the worst that he does and five of his six touchdowns all occurred in home games. Joique Bell can figure in as well but only as relief for Bush. If a game gets well in hand, Bell gets more workload at the end of the matchup as could easily happen in this one.

WIDE RECEIVERS: Calvin Johnson is on his first two game stretch without a score all year. He's already scored 12 times and rolled up seven different 100 yard games. Nate Burleson and Kris Durham contribute a little but make no mistake. This is all about Megatron who is as instrumental to the Lions as Stafford is.

TIGHT ENDS: Brandon Pettigrew injured his ankle and may be questionable this week. He's been mostly a nonfactor anyway and rare good for more than 30 yards, He has two touchdowns on the year while Joseph Fauria scored seven time over his ten receptions this year.

MATCH TO THE DEFENSE: The Giants pass defense ranks much better than it really is but they faced mostly bad passing teams and since they are so often getting beaten, most teams don't have to roll up much yardage or scores on them. The only road opponents to not score multiple passing touchdowns were Matt Barkley of the Eagles and Robert Griffin III right before getting benched. Their rushing defense is average at best and since this is their final road game it is hard to imagine they will be extra motivated this week. Stafford, Johnson and Bush are all must starts.
