WEEK 17 BAL at CIN DEN at OAK JAC at IND STL at SEA
BUF at NE DET at MIN KC at SD TB at NO
CAR at ATL GB at CHI NYJ at MIA WAS at NYG
*UPDATED CLE at PIT HOU at TEN SF at ARI PHI at DAL

Prediction: WAS 13, NYG 24 (Line: NYG by 3.5)

Update: Rueben Randle did not practice because of his knee and is questionable to play. I am removing him from the projections but he may still play. Andre Brown was able to return to full practices from his concussion and is going to start.

This is very possibly the last chance to see either head coaches associated with these teams. The 3-12 Redskins have not won in seven games and carry a 1-6 road mark. The 6-9 Giants just beat the Lions, somehow, and are a good team only in relation to the Redskins. This is a replay of week 13 when the Giants won 24-17 as the visitor.

Pregame Notes: This has been a disastrous year for a team that knows a thing or two about a bad season. What began with some promise really just extended the few bad elements from 2012 with out relying on any of the good things from that season.

Robert Griffin III has been benched despite being the 2012 Offensive Rookie of the Year and an apparent magician in winning games. But he hurt his knee late last year, then played some more and blew it out. Griffin has never been the same really and without his ability to run as well, it ends up that the Skins still only have a below average set of receivers. Can't get them open as well if the defense won't let him scramble around.

Another disappointment was with Alfred Morris who ran for 1613 yards as a rookie and set his sights on a 2000 yard season plus he was to become involved in the passing game as well. Never happened. Morris will end with only around 1300 yards and down from 13 scores to only seven or eight. Sad too because he still averaged 4.7 yards per carry but fell from 335 runs to just 260 entering the final game.

The Skins did discover a new tight end in Jordan Reed but then lost him to a bad concussion at the end of the year. Pierre Garcon held his own as the primary wideout but no other receiver really earned their keep.

This is expected to be the final game for Mike Shanahan. It may be the last for Kirk Cousins if they manage to find a trade partner though why not keep both quarterbacks at reasonable costs? That'll be up to the new regime.

MATCH TO THE DEFENSE: The first matchup saw Robert Griffin pass for just 207 yards and one score while Alfred Morris only gained 26 yards on 11 runs but scored a touchdown. No receiver was better than Pierre Garcon with 61 yards on nine catches and the tight end Logan Paulsen caught the lone passing score. The Skins are using Kirk Cousins now but the Giants are playing better than they were back in week 13, at least defensively.

Final game under Shanahan and on the road no less. Morris and Garcon are the only reasonable plays here and nothing more than moderate numbers should be relied on. This is Shanahan's last game so no telling what he might do with personnel.

QB Eli Manning 220,2

WR Rueben Randle

Pregame Notes: The Giants finish better than they started and the win in Detroit might make things look much better than they were the previous week when they were shut out at home or when they were pummeled in San Diego the week previous to that.

The Giants have contended with injuries to the offensive line - which never compensated - and the defensive secondary - which actually came around rather well. The G-Men spun through running backs like Andre Brown, Brandon Jacobs, Da'Rel Scott, David Wilson, Michael Cox and Peyton Hilling most of which ended up on injured reserve and none of which really make any difference. There is no telling what the backfield will be like in 2014 but hopefully it won't reprise the plan to run through a handful of washed up backs.

The passing game has been the major surprise since most of the year had healthy players in Victor Cruz, Hakeem Nicks and Rueben Randle. The same offense of the past several years just looked remarkably stale. Eli Manning leads the league in interceptions and will end the year with exactly one good game - the season opener against the Cowboys. Never threw more than two scores in any other game. This two time MVP of a Super Bowl passed for only 17 touchdowns and 26 interceptions. And four scores came in that first game.

Injuries do explain some of what happened here. But more than anything, it was an uninspired, mistake-filled season that looked every bit like opponents always knew exactly what the Giants were going to do. And it was not a tough schedule either.

The only players certain to return will be Manning, Cruz and Randle. Otherwise - check back in the summer.

MATCH TO THE DEFENSE: Manning passed for 235 yards and one score in that earlier meeting. Andre Brown ran for only 35 yards but bulled in two touchdowns. Brandon Meyers made use of the Redskins' weakness against the tight end for a season best 61 yards and a score on five catches. Victor Cruz turned in 80 yards on six catches but no other receiver ended with more than 35 yards. This time it is at home against the traveling Redskins. There are still not great plays in what could be Coughlin's final game. With Cruz in particular you run a risk of getting marginal production from any one player. The Redskins have been even weaker against the run and but Brown was concussed last week so pending his clearance, I will assume that Hillis returns from his own concussion and plays and update Friday night based on what has transpired.
