10 Stats That Matter From Week Two of the Preseason

John Tuvey, @jtuvey

Following the highly-anticipated RG3/Johnny Football showdown on Monday we’ll officially be halfway through the exhibition slate, with the all-important third preseason game looming. Here are the numbers from Week 2 of the preseason that warrant more than a blip on the fantasy radar…

Zach Ertz, 2-26-1; Jordan Matthews 9-104 – With no Jeremy Maclin or Riley Cooper, Ertz and Matthews were heavily involved in the Eagles 42-35 shootout loss with the Patriots. Ertz is solidifying his spot in the pack of tight ends going off the board in various order after the elite are taken, and there’s no questioning his upside in Chip Kelly’s offense. Matthews will be at worst Philly’s slot receiver, and if he’s on the board late he’s a solid handcuff to Maclin in case the knee or hamstring or other injury issues linger.

Justin Hunter, 4-111-2 – After being motivated in practice with a jersey that proclaimed him “Just Another Guy”, Hunter proved to be anything but as Jake Locker’s (and Zach Mettenberger’s) target of choice in the Titans’ 31-24 loss to the Saints. If the Ken Whisenhunt offense works to plan and Locker proves to be a worthy first-round QB, Hunter is your home run hitter while Kendall Wright handles the short game.
