San Francisco 49ers TE Vance McDonald is expected to see more opportunities in the passing game this year after a great showing in the blocking game in his rookie season, according to offensive coordinator Greg Roman. Roman likes the fact that McDonald has plenty of experience now as a versatile tight end.
Huddle Up: McDonald will get plenty of looks if Vernon Davis holds out, and it's no surprise the team is talking up their alternatives at the position while Davis is angling for a new deal. For those drafting earlier in the summer, McDonald might be a shrewd hedge bet in the later rounds if an early pick is spent on Davis.

San Francisco 49ers TE Vance McDonald is expected to receive significant playing time in the base offense this upcoming season because of his willingness to block. McDonald probably will receive limited opportunities in the passing game.
Huddle Up: Yeah, definitely don't be expecting a two-TE fantasy bonanza in San Fran. The 2013 2nd-round pick only caught 8 passes for 119 yards a year ago, and just isn't going to see many targets as long as Vernon Davis is healthy.

San Francisco 49ers TE Vance McDonald needs to tap his potential in the team's two tight-end set in 2014, in the opinion of Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee.
Huddle Up: 8 catches for 119 yards and no TDs certainly qualifies as disappointing for the 2013 2nd-round pick. A big second-year step forward is most definitely in order.

San Francisco 49ers TE Vance McDonald (undisclosed) was back at practice Tuesday, Aug. 20.
Huddle Up: The 2nd-round pick from Rice made a strong first impression, hauling in 4 passes for 66 yards in the Niners' preseason opener and still leads the team despite failing to catch a pass in the 2nd game. With san Fran's WR corps not in the best of shape, McDonald could see action with starter Vernon Davis in 2-TE sets this season.
