The Seattle Seahawks will release CB Antoine Winfield.
Huddle Up: Unlike some teams the Seahawks have a strict policy of going with the best players, regardless of name or salary. Winfield was beaten out in camp by Walter Thurmond III and Jeremy Lane, so he became expendable in Seattle. However, the veteran cornerback shouldn't be out of work very long.

The Minnesota Vikings offered CB Antoine Winfield more guaranteed money than the Seattle Seahawks did, but Winfield decided to sign with the Seahawks. Winfield received $1 million in guaranteed money from the Seahawks.
Huddle Up: The Broncos and Pats also were interested in the soon-to-be 36-year-old corner, but Winfield has a prime opportunity to be a veteran leader on a young and talented Seattle defense.

Free-agent CB Antoine Winfield (Vikings) has narrowed his list to sign with the Minnesota Vikings or Seattle Seahawks.
Huddle Up: The Washington Redskins have dropped out of the running, leaving his former team and the Seahawks in pursuit of the veteran cover man, who will turn 36 in June.

Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said he has been in contact with free-agent CB Antoine Winfield and wants the cornerback to re-sign. "I'm hoping that we can figure out a way to get him back here," Frazier said. "So, I'm hoping that it's not goodbye yet."
Huddle Up: The Vikings did not handle this situation well, telling Winfield they wanted to reduce his playing time and then releasing him outright. With the cornerback market down, maybe Minnesota will find a way to keep him around at a price tag that will match his expected playing time.

Minnesota Vikings CB Antoine Winfield said he will play against the Green Bay Packers this weekend with a cast. He left Week 17 because of pain in his broken hand.
Huddle Up: The Vikings desperately missed Winfield's tackling ability, and Aaron Rodgers sought out and exploited Winfield's replacements in coverage. How much--and how well--Winfield is able to play this weekend will go a long way towards deciding whether or not Minnesota can steal two straight from the Packers.

Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Alan Williams said he has no doubts CB Antoine Winfield (hand) will try to find a way to play in the team's Wild Card playoff game.
Huddle Up: Winfield left the Vikings' Week 17 win over Green Bay after aggravating his fractured hand. He'll give it a go again this weekend, critical not only because he's an outstanding tackler and much of the Packers' passing game success came on yards after the catch but also because Aaron Rodgers exploited the shaky coverage provided by backup nickel corner Marcus Sherels after Winfield left the game.
