Byron Leftwich | QB | Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers need to get younger on the offensive line and at backup quarterback, which means the team is unlikely to bring back impending free agents QB Byron Leftwich and OT Max Starks.
Huddle Up: Even though Leftwich anbd Charlie Batch were able to close out some wins this past season, the Steelers definitely need a younger -- and better -- option at the No. 2 QB slot in back of the frequently banged-up Big Ben.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Byron Leftwich (ribs) fractured two ribs in the Steelers Week 11 game and is unlikely to play in Week 12.
Huddle Up: It seemed pretty obvious Leftwich injured himself doing his "victory roll" in the endzone after his touchdown run, but he was allowed to finish the game. Batch is in line to start and the Steelers will likely be looking to add a QB to the roster.

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) left Heinz Field in the second half of the Week 10 game against the Kansas City Chiefs to have his injured right shoulder further evaluated. QB Byron Leftwich replaced him under center.
Huddle Up: Leftwich finished 7-of-14 for 73 yards and did not throw a TD or interception as the Steelers outlasted the underdog Chiefs, 16-13, in OT. That was good and well for Monday, but the Steelers' and Big Ben's fantasy owners immediate focus is on the starting QB's health, particularly with 2 of the Steelers' next 3 games coming against the division-rival Ravens.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Byron Leftwich is listed as the No. 2 quarterback over QB Charlie Batch on the first depth chart of the preseason.
Huddle Up: Steelers fans don't want want to care, but they may be forced to with starter Ben Roethlisberger's early-camp injury issues (partially-torn rotator cuff, ankle) and the number of times (122) he's been sacked over the past three seasons. As for fantasy value, neither Leftwich or Batch has much to offer should Big Ben go down for any length of time.
