Updating a previous report, the Detroit Lions released TE Tony Scheffler on Tuesday, Oct. 22.
Huddle Up: Scheffler, who has missed the past 2 games with a concussion, saw his 4-year run with the team come to an end. The Lions, meanwhile, are moving on with the 1-2 TE duo of Brandon Pettigrew and emerging rookie Joseph Fauria.

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz did not rule out the possibility of TE Tony Scheffler (concussion) being placed on Injured Reserve.
Huddle Up: Scheffler, who only has 7 catches for 82 yards this season, has been lost in the Lions' TE shuffle this season with Brandon Pettigrew still around and the emergence of 6-foot-7 rookie Christian Fauria, who hauled in 3 TD receptions in Week 6.

The Detroit Lions could keep four tight ends on the roster in 2013, although it is more likely they will keep three. The Lions currently have TEs Tony Scheffler, Brandon Pettigrew, Michael Williams, Joseph Fauria and Matt Veldman on the roster.
Huddle Up: With the since-departed Will Heller in the mix, Lions' TEs hauled in 118 passes for 1,221 yards and 5 TDs last season. The receptions and yardage saw slight increases from 2011, but the TD production dropped significantly from 11 to 5. Look for Pettigrew and Scheffler to still get their fair share of targets and production as long as Megatron is attracting the Lion's share of the defensive attention outside.
