Golden Tate - WR - Detroit Lions

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell said Tuesday, April 22, that he can already see a rapport between QB Matthew Stafford and new target WR Golden Tate. 'Matthew is certainly getting a good feel for Golden,' Caldwell said. 'Those two I think are going to function well.'
Huddle Up: Tate, who established career highs with 64 catches and 898 yards last season in Seattle, should eclipse those numbers in 2014 -- even going from a No. 1 to No. 2 wideout. That's what playing opposite Calvin Johnson can do for a WR who can stay healthy and take advantage of the opportunity.
Doug Baldwin - WR - Free Agent
(4/23/2014 12:08am et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
Seattle Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin showed up for the team's voluntary workout sessions this week, but he is technically not yet under contract for the 2014 season. Baldwin said Tuesday, April 22, that he has not yet signed his second-round contract tender, and he said his goal is to play in Seattle 'for a long time.'
Huddle Up: Baldwin had a career-best fantasy season (50-778-5) in 2013, and even though Seattle's leading receiver, Golden Tate, has bolted for Detroit, a (theoretically) healthier Percy Harvin and Sidney Rice will cut into Baldwin's targets and catches.
Matt Ryan - QB - Atlanta Falcons
(4/22/2014 11:56pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith is calling for major improvement on both sides of the line of scrimmage. He fears the team could bottom out for a second straight year if they do not change for the better. 'I feel like we've lost our way,' Smith said Tuesday, April 22. 'I feel like I've lost my way a little. The emphasis along the way is to be a bigger and stronger football team and win the line of scrimmage.' Smith said the team was hurt last season by a lack of strength and size up front. They ranked last in rushing, and QB Matt Ryan was sacked a career-high 44 times.
Huddle Up: Ryan attempted 36 more passes in 2013 than in his career-best 2012 campaign but threw for 196 fewer yards and 6 fewer TDs while tossing 3 more interceptions. Better protection -- and a healthier WR corps -- will go a long ways in propelling Ryan toward a bounce-back season.
Eli Manning - QB - New York Giants
(4/22/2014 11:56pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
New York Giants QB Eli Manning (ankle) addressed the rumor that he was injured playing basketball, stating the procedure was already scheduled before he visited Duke University's practice facility for a shootaround.
Huddle Up: Eli clearly has to win back some N.Y. fans following his poor 2013 campaign.
David Wilson - RB - New York Giants
(4/22/2014 11:56pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
New York Giants RB David Wilson (neck) said he is still waiting for a clear MRI to be medically cleared, but is currently ahead of schedule.
Huddle Up: So far so good for Wilson, who -- if healthy -- will team with newcomer Rashad Jennings to form the team's 1-2 RB punch.
Cam Newton - QB - Carolina Panthers
(4/22/2014 11:48pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (ankle) said he won't change his approach to the game after his ankle surgery. He added that he doesn't recall when he injured it, but it wasn't 100 percent for a long time. He also said he consulted former RB Bo Jackson about dealing with injuries and rehab.
Huddle Up: Newton has had at least 111 rushing attempts and 585 yards in each of his three seasons, and it sounds like his fantasy owners don't need to worry about Newton suddenly becoming a pocket passer.
Josh Freeman - QB - New York Giants
(4/22/2014 3:57pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
QB Josh Freeman, recently signed by the New York Giants, said he still views himself as a starting-caliber quarterback.
Huddle Up: Freeman only has had 2 seasons out of 5 with a QB rating higher than 75 and more TD passes than interceptions, and is going to have to prove to his third team in 2 seasons that his down times are in the rear-view mirror.
Julio Jones - WR - Atlanta Falcons
(4/22/2014 3:57pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones will be limited during the team's offseason workouts while he recovers from offseason foot surgery. 'Julio is participating with our athletic performance department,' head coach Mike Smith said. 'He will be able to get out on the field and do some walk-through stuff with us when we start going. Our focus on Julio is one thing, and that's having him prepared for our opener. ... He's progressing well. We're not going to do anything to hinder his timeframe in terms of getting back to work with us.'
Huddle Up: Definitely expect the Falcons to take it nice and easy with Jones -- even if that's not going to be easy on fantasy GMs anticipating a strong, bounce-back season from the wideout.
Vontaze Burfict - LB - Cincinnati Bengals
(4/22/2014 3:57pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
The Cincinnati Bengals are talking with LB Vontaze Burfict about a contract extension. He's set to make $570,000 in 2014.
Huddle Up: With Burfict ranking as one of 4 NFL players with at least 300 total tackles over the past 2 seasons combined, it's easy to forget he entered the league as a college free agent two years ago. Look for the LB to get an extension and a sizable bump in pay.
Will Hill - S - New York Giants
(4/22/2014 3:39pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
New York Giants FS Will Hill is facing a year-long suspension after reportedly failing another drug test. He will appeal what would be his third drug-related suspension.
Huddle Up: Hill started 10 games at FS last season and finished fourth on the squad with 77 total tackles. His absence would suddenly move the safety position that much higher on the Giants' draft priority list.
Terrelle Pryor - QB - Seattle Seahawks
(4/22/2014 3:39pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
QB Terrelle Pryor acquired by the Seattle Seahawks in a trade with the Oakland Raiders on Monday, April 21, in exchange for a 2014 seventh-round draft pick, will compete with QBs Tarvaris Jackson and B.J. Daniels for the backup job to Russell Wilson. Pryor is scheduled to make $705,000 this year.
Huddle Up: Jackson is the more polished passer and has had 2 seasons in Pete Carroll's system, but Pryor is a bit underrated, especially considering that he only has 10 career starts. Pryor also is the better runner, having finished second to cam Newton in 2013 with 576 ground yards.
Andy Dalton - QB - Cincinnati Bengals
(4/22/2014 3:39pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton said his agent has talked with the team about a contract extension but no deal is imminent at this point.
Huddle Up: Suffice it to say this coming season is a prove-it or lose-it year for Dalton, who is in the final season of his 4-year, $5.2 million rookie-year deal.
Marcus Lattimore - RB - San Francisco 49ers
(4/20/2014 10:29pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
San Francisco 49ers RB Marcus Lattimore (knee) is not expected to be restricted in any way when offseason workouts begin.
Huddle Up: With the Niners expected to move LaMichael James, Lattimore should open training camp as the team's No. 3 RB with the opportunity to supplant Kendall Hunter as Frank Gore's primary backup.
Tom Brady - QB - New England Patriots
(4/20/2014 10:29pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
New England Patriots QB Tom Brady is expected to report for the start of offseason workouts Monday, April 21.
Huddle Up: Brady was more than stellar last season, guiding an undermanned Pats squad to the the AFC title game. In fantasy circles, however, Brady didn't even rate as a starter in most leagues, finishing tied for 13th among all QBs with 319 points (Huddle Performance scoring). Better overall team health and a better supporting cast will be keys for Brady's fantasy stock.
Kirk Cousins - QB - Washington Redskins
(4/20/2014 10:29pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
The Cleveland Browns could consider pursuing a trade for Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins since they have 10 draft picks.
Huddle Up: Ah, we see the Cousins-Browns trade rumors are heating up again, just in time for the upcoming draft. One way or another, the Browns will emerge with a new QB over the next few weeks with Brian Hoyer being the only experienced signal-caller currently on the roster.
Michael Egnew - TE - Miami Dolphins
(4/20/2014 10:29pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
The Miami Dolphins likely will add at least two more tight ends this offseason that will compete with TE Michael Egnew for a roster spot.
Huddle Up: Egnew, a third-round pick in 2012, has been virtually non-existent in the passing game, totalling only 7 receptions for 69 yards in 17 career games. Yeah, it's safe to say he's going to have to show a little more this offseason to a earn a third year on the roster.
Patrick Peterson - CB - Arizona Cardinals
(4/20/2014 4:53pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
Updating a previous item, the Arizona Cardinals plan to exercise the option on CB Patrick Peterson no later than Monday, April 21.
Huddle Up: Peterson, who has 10 interceptions and 30 passes defensed over the past 2 seasons, will combine with newly signed Antonio Cromartie to form one of the league's most dynamic CB tandems.
Brian Hartline - WR - Miami Dolphins
(4/20/2014 4:53pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
The Miami Dolphins may let WR Brian Hartline walk following the 2014 season if the team succeeds in drafting a receiver in the second round. Releasing Hartline would save the team $4 million.
Huddle Up: There's still obviously still much to be determined about the future of Hartline, who's caught at least 70 passes and eclipsed 1,000 yards in each of the past 2 seasons. Let's see how the draft and season play out.
Darren McFadden - RB - Oakland Raiders
(4/20/2014 4:53pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
If healthy, Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden is expected to be the team's starting tailback with RB Maurice Jones-Drew as his backup.
Huddle Up: The key words above, of course, are the first two with McFadden having missed nearly the equivalent of 2 full seasons (29 combined games) over his first 6 years in Oaktown. In other words, MJD should see plenty or work even though he's longer a clear-cut No. 1 as he was in J'ville.
LaMichael James - RB - San Francisco 49ers
(4/20/2014 4:36pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
The Kansas City Chiefs could consider pursuing San Francisco 49ers RB LaMichael James if he could become a slot receiver. The team likely would not have interest in James if he can only be a running back since they have RBs Jamaal Charles and Knile Davis on the roster.
Huddle Up: Could James be the heir apparent to Dexter McCluster, who had his moments but certainly didn't set the fantasy world on fire by any means?
Michael Ford - RB - Chicago Bears
(4/20/2014 4:36pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
The Chicago Bears probably will select a running back in the later rounds of the 2014 NFL Draft to compete with RB Michael Ford for the No. 2 running back job. The team could also add a running back or two after the draft.
Huddle Up: Yeah, it's safe to say that Ford, a 2013 college free agent from LSU who didn't log a carry last season, will have some competition for the No. 2 job behind stud starter Matt Forte.
Brandon Gibson - WR - Miami Dolphins
(4/20/2014 4:36pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
Miami Dolphins WR Brandon Gibson (knee) is expected to be available for the start of the offseason program, according to a source.
Huddle Up: Gibson, was on pace for a career year this past season 30 catches for 326 yards and 3 TDs in 7 games, and figures to be the front-runner for the Fins' slot/No. 3 WR job if he's healthy.
Terrelle Pryor - QB - Oakland Raiders
(4/19/2014 10:37pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
The Oakland Raiders will release QB Terrelle Pryor if they are not able to trade him by Monday, April 21.
Huddle Up: That's not exactly news that will drive Pryor's price tag up. Sounds like next week will be open season for teams interested in adding a running quarterback.
Matt Hasselbeck - QB - Indianapolis Colts
(4/19/2014 10:37pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck plans to retire after the 2014 season.
Huddle Up: Hass had a nice little run as an NFL starter, but at this juncture he's nothing more than a sage backup and veteran clipboard holder.
Michael Vick - QB - New York Jets
(4/19/2014 10:37pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
New York Jets RB Chris Johnson said the team told him QBs Michael Vick and Geno Smith will compete for the starting quarterback job during offseason workouts and training camp.
Huddle Up: The Jets need to decide early on if they're developing Geno or trying to milk one more quality season out of Vick. A battle that stretches into training camp won't allow either QB to get the necessary reps with the first team.
