Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart is expected to miss one-to-two weeks as he recovers from a hamstring injury. Stewart will not be placed on the team's Physically Unable to Perform list.
Huddle Up: Another season, more injury questions for Stewart, who has played in only a combined 15 games the past 2 seasons.
Rashad Jennings - RB - New York Giants
(7/24/2014 4:54pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
New York Giants RB Rashad Jennings is listed as the team's starting running back on the first unofficial depth chart of training camp.
Huddle Up: No surprise here, but just know the looking-healthy David Wilson, Peyton Hillis and fourth-round pick Andre Williams will all be angling for a share of the action.
Cam Newton - QB - Carolina Panthers
(7/24/2014 4:54pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (ankle) was cleared for practice, according to general manager David Gettleman.
Huddle Up: Good news for the Panthers, Newton and his fantasy owners as the QB looks to make it four top-five fantasy QB finishes in four NFL seasons this year.
Anthony Spencer - DE - Dallas Cowboys
(7/24/2014 4:54pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
Dallas Cowboys DE Anthony Spencer (knee) was placed on the team's Physically Unable to Perform List on Thursday, July 24.
Huddle Up: Spencer is one of the few proven commodities for bedraggled Dallas D -- which last season finished last in the league in yards allowed, 30th in points allowed, 30th vs. the pass and 27th against the run - - and the 'Boys obviously need him to get healthy sooner rather than later.
Roddy White - WR - Atlanta Falcons
(7/24/2014 12:28pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
Atlanta Falcons WR Roddy White signed a four-year extension with the team that will keep him under team control for the next five years, according to sources. White can earn up to $30 million in the deal with $18 million coming in the first two seasons and $10 million guaranteed overall, according to a source.
Huddle Up: Putting aside last season's injury-addled 63-711-3 disappointment, White got rewarded for his 6-year stretch of excellence from 2007-12 in which he averaged 94 catches, 1,296 yards and 8 TDs per season. Set to turn 33 in November, White is on the wrong side of 30, but definitely look for his 2014 numbers to be closer to his heyday figures than his 2013 stats.
Justin Blackmon - WR - Jacksonville Jaguars
(7/24/2014 12:13pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
Jacksonville Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon was pulled over at 6:22 p.m. local time Wednesday, July 23, leading up to his arrest for possession of marijuana. Police said Blackmon 'openly admitted to smoking a blunt while driving.'
Huddle Up: The already-suspended wideout doesn't seem too motivated to clean up his act, and it's fair to start wondering if we'll ever see him suit up for another NFL game.
Ray Rice - RB - Baltimore Ravens
(7/24/2014 12:13pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice will be suspended for the first two games of the season following his well-publicized, off-season arrest on assault charges involving his fiancée, according to sources Thursday, July 24.
Huddle Up: Given the seriousness of the the charges here -- accompanied by a disturbing video -- and the more stringent punishments handed out recently for pot use and the like, the league's surprising leniency is being met with some harsh criticism on airwaves and social-media circles this morning. Regardless, the Ravens and Rice's fantasy owners are getting off easy as the RB will only miss 2 starts as he tries to rebound from his deeply disappointing 2013 showing.
Terrance West - RB - Cleveland Browns
(7/23/2014 10:01pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
Cleveland Browns RB Terrance West (undisclosed) will begin training camp on the non-football injury list, according to a source. West said on his Twitter page that he passed his conditioning test and people need to 'stop making up your own stories.' Per the NFL's official transaction log, West was indeed placed on the non-football injury list.
Huddle Up: Trouble in paradise as Ben Tate takes the early lead in the battle for backfield supremacy in Cleveland. More details on West's situation as they surface.
Golden Tate - WR - Detroit Lions
(7/23/2014 10:01pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate (undisclosed) will start training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform List, according to a league source.
Huddle Up: Tate should have time to carve out his wingman role opposite Calvin Johnson, assuming his undisclosed injury doesn't keep him on the sidelines for an extended period.
Chris Johnson - RB - New York Jets
(7/23/2014 10:01pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
New York Jets RB Chris Johnson (knee) will not be limited at the start of training camp, and he was 'flying' during his conditioning test, according to head coach Rex Ryan.
Huddle Up: The key to Johnson's game is his speed, and if he hasn't lost it he has a shot at another 1,000-yard season with his new team.
Stevie Johnson - WR - San Francisco 49ers
(7/23/2014 10:01pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
San Francisco 49ers WR Stevie Johnson (hamstring) passed his physical and has been cleared to practice Thursday, July 23.
Huddle Up: Johnson will be battling for a role in the 49ers receiver rotation; that he's been cleared to practice means that at least he won't be starting behind the others in the competition.
Jamaal Charles - RB - Kansas City Chiefs
(7/23/2014 10:01pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles received a two-year contract extension, bringing his total deal length to four years. Charles will receive $18.1 million in new money and an extra $5 million over the next two seasons, which will put him in the top five of highest-paid running backs. He will earn $8.3 million in 2014.
Huddle Up: And so ends one of the shortest holdouts in sports history as the Chiefs realized they have exactly one offensive playmaker on their roster and decided to pay him accordingly.
Sidney Rice - WR - Seattle Seahawks
(7/23/2014 9:51pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
Seattle Seahawks WR Sidney Rice has decided to retire, according to a league source. Rice has decided to retire due to a history of concussions.
Huddle Up: Not that he was slated to be a big part of the Seattle offense anyway, but now the Seahawks need to find someone else to throw a minimal number of times to. And a preposition is a terrible thing to end a sentence with.
Tyrann Mathieu - S - Arizona Cardinals
(7/23/2014 9:51pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
The Arizona Cardinals placed FS Tyrann Mathieu (knee) on the team's Physically Unable to Perform list Wednesday, July 23.
Huddle Up: The Cards weren't expecting Mathieu to be ready for the start of camp, and they're not holding their breath with regards to his availability for the start of the season. While he could still surprise everyone, IDPers shouldn't bank on him being ready to play until midseason.
Von Miller - LB - Denver Broncos
(7/23/2014 9:51pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
Denver Broncos LB Von Miller (knee) will not be placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list, and he has been cleared for limited work.
Huddle Up: Expect the Broncos to bring Miller along slowly, but the good news here is that he's off the PUP and at least participating in practice.
Evan Rodriguez - TE - Buffalo Bills
(7/23/2014 2:25pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
Buffalo Bills FB Evan Rodriguez (cramps) and TE Chris Gragg (cramps) were hospitalized because of complications from cramps and were getting hydrated, according to head coach Doug Marrone. Rodriguez has been released from the hospital, while Gragg is still in the hospital.
Huddle Up: A minor setback, but if Rodriguez is hoping to carve out any sort of meaningful role in the Buffalo offense he can't afford even minor setbacks.
Vernon Davis - TE - San Francisco 49ers
(7/23/2014 2:25pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis has reported to camp Wednesday, July 23, according to an Instagram post from 49ers S C.J. Spillman.
Huddle Up: So much for talk of Davis holding out. Maybe he and the 49ers are close enough on contract talks that Vernon is comfortable showing up, or maybe he just felt compelled to honor his contract and let the finances sort themselves out later. Either way, it's one less headache for the Niners and for those looking for an elite fantasy tight end.
Reggie Wayne - WR - Indianapolis Colts
(7/23/2014 2:25pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
Indianapolis Colts WR Reggie Wayne (knee) said he has been medically cleared to practice. He's expected to be limited, though, especially in the near future.
Huddle Up: No reason to rush Reggie, as he's well versed in the Indy offense. But the good news is that he appears to be all the way back from last season's injury so fantasy owners can feel comfortable drafting him.
Jamaal Charles - RB - Kansas City Chiefs
(7/23/2014 2:25pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
Updating previous reports, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles will not report to training camp Wednesday, July 23, barring a major contract breakthrough.
Huddle Up: Given that Charles is pretty much the only playmaker of note on the offensive side of the ball in Kansas City, not to mention the short career expectancy of an NFL running back, this should hardly come as a surprise. The key now is for the situation to be resolved before those holding a top-three pick in their fantasy draft have to grapple with the "will he holdout or will he show up" dilemma when considering Charles.
Vick Ballard - RB - Indianapolis Colts
(7/23/2014 2:25pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
Indianapolis Colts RB Vick Ballard (knee) reported to camp and has passed his physical.
Huddle Up: Ballard was a solid option for the Colts prior to his knee injury; now he'll have to battle Trent Richardson and Ahmad Bradshaw for looks in Indy's suddenly crowded backfield.
Rob Gronkowski - TE - New England Patriots
(7/23/2014 2:25pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee) has been cleared for contact and will not be placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list, according to head coach Bill Belichick.
Huddle Up: The more Gronk is able to do in training camp, the earlier he'll go off fantasy draft boards. If he practices and plays in camp without restrictions, and maybe even flashes some of the old Gronk magic in a preseason game, he could easily push himself into the second round of fantasy drafts in TE-mandatory leagues.
Rashad Jennings - RB - New York Giants
(7/23/2014 2:25pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
New York Giants RBs Rashad Jennings, David Wilson and Andre Williams could be used in a three-man rotation this season to keep Jennings fresh.
Huddle Up: A three-man rotation would scuttle the fantasy value of all backs involved, though Williams is a rookie and Wilson is both injury- and fumble-prone so their spots in the rotation are hardly secure. Jennings remains the safest bet, though it seems the Giants are bent on finding ways to take touches away from him. It's worth noting that Williams has been working as the Giants' goal-line back early in camp.
Ben Tate - RB - Cleveland Browns
(7/23/2014 2:25pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
Cleveland Browns RBs Ben Tate and Terrance West will compete for the starting tailback job during training camp and the preseason, and it's a battle head coach Mike Pettine is looking forward to. 'And the best competition might be Ben Tate and our guy (Terrance West) from Towson, who I really like,' Pettine said Tuesday, July 22.
Huddle Up: The Browns traded up to get West, so he's definitely a franchise favorite. And with Josh Gordon sidelined, the Browns will have to run plenty so whomever wins this epic battle is looking at significant fantasy value.
Darren Sproles - RB - Philadelphia Eagles
(7/23/2014 2:25pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
Philadelphia Eagles RB Darren Sproles' ability to win one-on-one matchups in space is what head coach Chip Kelly plans to exploit this season. Kelly said opposing defenses played a lot of man-to-man coverage against his offense last year, and his goal was to find a way to exploit the coverage this year.
Huddle Up: Kelly's MO is spreading the field, finding mismatches and exploiting them and in Sproles he has another speedy tool to do just that. With most of the Eagles now in Year Two of running Kelly's high-speed offense, the expectation is that things will move even more quickly and efficiently--great news for the fantasy prospects of all involved.
David Wilson - RB - New York Giants
(7/22/2014 11:32pm et)  Share this news item on Facebook! Tweet this news item!
New York Giants RB David Wilson (neck) was making quick cuts and looked like one of the most athletic players on the field Tuesday, July 22, according to Dan Salomone of Giants.com.
Huddle Up: The progress reports and outlook keeps getting better and better for Wilson, all the while chipping away at the fantasy stock of projected starter Rashad Jennings. See if the trends continue into the preseason.
