Cleveland Browns QB Cody Kessler could begin the season as the starter, but he doesn't fit the mold head coach Hue Jackson likes as a starting quarterback, according to beat writer Mary Kat Cabot. Jackson likes a tall, mobile quarterback with a big arm and quick decision-making skills. Kessler falls below Jackson's 6-foot-2 threshold and doesn't have the deep-ball skills Jackson covets.

Huddle Up: Kessler will have to hold off DeShone Kizer in camp, and it's possible he could beat out the rookie. Kessler has improved his arm strength this offseason. However, Kessler doesn't have a lot of fantasy appeal except in deeper two-QB leagues.

Cleveland Browns QB Cody Kessler increased his arm strength this offseason and said the added strength will allow him to be more aggressive. 'Being able to push the ball down the field and having that confidence and knowing that you can get it there and put a little more on it is something that definitely helps you,' Kessler said.

Huddle Up: Kessler appears to be the favorite for the starting spot, but he merits very little fantasy appeal right now.

Cleveland Browns QB Cody Kessler will receive the first snaps during drills this offseason because he has earned the right, according to head coach Hue Jackson.

Huddle Up: Kessler is the leading candidate for the starting job but will have to compete for the job during training camp. He has some decent stats when he played in 2016 but should be avoided in all fantasy leagues if he is the starting quarterback.

Cleveland Browns QB Cody Kessler completed two of his three pass attempts for 11 yards in the Week 16 game against the San Diego Chargers, finishing up for the injured QB Robert Griffin III (concussion).

Huddle Up: Kessler could get the starting nod in Week 17 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he would obviously have very little fantasy appeal in that matchup.

Cleveland Browns QB Cody Kessler (concussion) has been ruled out for the team's Week 12 game Sunday, Nov. 27, versus the New York Giants.

Huddle Up: No surprise here, as Kessler sustained his second concussion in a month last weekend, and it's possible the club may shut him down for the rest of the year in this lost season. Josh McCown will take over at quarterback, and considering the Browns usually fall behind by large amounts, he'll have potential to post some big stat-lines from here on out with plenty of garbage time. He could end up being a serviceable QB2.

Cleveland Browns QB Cody Kessler said he won't play scared after being benched in a Week 10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Huddle Up: Kessler will resume his starting role in Week 11 against Pittsburgh, but he shouldn't be starting in fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 11/10/2016 9:16pm ET

Cleveland Browns QB Cody Kessler was replaced by QB Josh McCown against the Baltimore Ravens Thursday, Nov. 10.

Huddle Up: Neither Kessler or McCown was overly effective, and it remains to be seen who Cleveland will put under center in Week 11.

Cleveland Browns QB Cody Kessler went 19-for-27 for 203 yards and one touchdown against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 9.

Huddle Up: Kessler has been solid since taking over the starting quarterback job and has five touchdowns and one interception in six games. It appears like Kessler could be the quarterback of the future for the Browns, but owners in all leagues should avoid him.

Cleveland Browns QB Cody Kessler (concussion) has been cleared to return to practice this week.

Huddle Up: Whether Kessler will start instead of Josh McCown remains to be seen. McCown is coming off a 341-yard outing and easily has more experience than the rookie Kessler. Whoever starts will be throwing against the Dallas Cowboys, though. That's not a QB1 matchup for either quarterback.

Cleveland Browns QB Cody Kessler (concussion) is not participating in practice Thursday, Oct. 27.

Huddle Up: It appears like Kessler will miss at least one game because of his concussion. Josh McCown has been participating in practice this week and may be the starting quarterback in Week 8. McCown has played well at times since he has been with the Browns but should be avoided in most leagues.

Cleveland Browns QB Cody Kessler (concussion) has proven his toughness and must try to better protect himself, according to head coach Hue Jackson. 'I don't want to take the fight out of him, but he also has to understand the situation he's in,' Jackson said. Kessler left the Browns' Week 7 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals with a concussion. 'If you're not playing, then we're hurting the team,' Jackson added. 'I don't think Cody was trying to do anything to hurt his football team. He was trying to do everything he could to help his team score.'

Huddle Up: Kessler is only a rookie and has been thrown to the wolves due to injuries, but he has taken a beaten in his young inaugural campaign. It's unclear if Kessler will be cleared from the concussion protocol in time for Sunday's game, but the Browns will leave for London on Thursday. If Kessler doesn't make that trip then he won't be playing. Either way, starting a Cleveland quarterback is still highly ill advised.

There is hope that Cleveland Browns QB Cody Kessler (ribs) will still be able to play in Week 6 against the Tennessee Titans despite QB Kevin Hogan being promoted from the practice squad.

Huddle Up: Kessler is the Browns' best option at quarterback until Josh McCown returns, but that probably won't be this week. Either way, the Cleveland quarterback situation is one to avoid, especially versus a Titans squad that has been one of the better fantasy defenses against quarterbacks this year.

Cleveland Browns QB Cody Kessler (chest, ribs) suffered chest and rib injuries during the team's Week 5 game and is considered questionable to return.

Huddle Up: Charlie Whitehurst likely will take over as the starting quarterback with Kessler sidelined. Owners will need to keep an eye out for an update on Kessler's status over the next day or two, but owners probably should avoid all Cleveland quarterbacks.
