Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Peyton Barber is the starting running back 'right now' and the team's confidence in him is 'high,' according to head coach Dirk Koetter.

Huddle Up: Barber was solid for the Bucs near the end of the season, but they need to aim higher if they want to put a spark back into an offense that disappointed last season. Koetter loves the vertical passing game and has all the ingredients necessary to have a successful one except a running back that can put some fear into defenses on play-action. If a top-five back like LSU's Derrius Guice or Georgia's Sony Michel is still on the board in the second round next month, don't be surprised to see Tampa Bay make the pick.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers exclusive rights free-agent RB Peyton Barber signed a one-year, $630,000 deal with the Buccaneers Tuesday, March 13.

Huddle Up: Barber is in line to start, but the team is probably looking to add depth at the position. Barber could be worth an RB3 pickup if major changes don't come.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Peyton Barber 'will be right there' in regards to his status of possibly being the club's lead running back going into 2018, according to head coach Dirk Koetter, and it will 'definitely be a consideration.'

Huddle Up: Barber opened many eyes in his second year in the NFL. The undrafted running back out of Auburn gained 335 yards on 78 carries over the final five games when he got extended run, and with Doug Martin scuffling for a variety of reasons, it would seem Barber has established himself as a fixture in Tampa Bay's running game to open up 2018. However, there's still a chance the Bucs may address the position during the offseason as well.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Peyton Barber had a team-high 13 rushes for 51 yards in Week 16 against the Carolina Panthers while adding two receptions for four yards on his two targets.

Huddle Up: Barber was the lead back in the Tampa backfield despite the fact Doug Martin, Charles Sims and Jacquizz Rodgers were also active. He could be the back the Buccaneers lean upon heading into 2018 and beyond, but at this point it's anyone's guess.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Peyton Barber amassed 53 rushing yards on 13 carries, as well as 15 receiving yards on three receptions in the team's Week 15 loss Monday, Dec. 18, versus the Atlanta Falcons. In addition, he lost a fumble.

Huddle Up: Barber got the start with Doug Martin being inactive due to a violation of team rules but didn't churn out much with the opportunity. In his defense, quarterback Jameis Winston was simply outstanding, so it made sense to stick to the passing game. Barber has shown plenty of RB2 potential, however, and should sustain that status if he keeps getting the bulk of the work in Tampa Bay's backfield.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Peyton Barber is expected to be the team's starting running back against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 15, according to a source.

Huddle Up: Barber has recorded 160 yards over the last two games and probably will receive most of the carries against the Falcons. He will still share playing time with the other running backs on the roster but could be a flex option in deeper leagues.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Peyton Barber rushed 12 times for a team-high 58 yards in Week 14 against the Detroit Lions and he added five-yard reception on his only target.

Huddle Up: Barber led the team despite the return for Doug Martin from a one-game absence. Barber averaged 4.8 yards per run to just 2.6 yards per carry for Martin, and certainly looks to be the more effective back at this point. As long as there is a timeshare, however, he is nothing more than a RB3 or flex play in fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Peyton Barber stepped up with 23 rushes and 102 yards in Week 13 against the Green Bay Packers.

Huddle Up: Barber did a great job in place of Doug Martin (concussion), and the three-headed monster in the Tampa Bay backfield never materialized. Barber saw 27 total touches, while Jacquizz Rodgers had just three touches and Charles Sims totaled five. As long as Martin is sidelined, Barber is the back you want for fantasy purposes.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Peyton Barber rushed for seven yards and two touchdowns on five carries against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 12.

Huddle Up: Barber was used as a goal line back against the Falcons and could receive a bigger role next week if Doug Martin is not able to play. Owners should keep an eye on the situation because Barber could have some value next week against the Green Bay Packers.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Peyton Barber rushed 11 times for a team-high 34 yards in Week 9 against the New Orleans Saints and he added two catches for 20 yards on three targets.

Huddle Up: Barber was seeing some extra work with a lopsided game, so don't look into this too much. He isn't replacing Doug Martin, even though the veteran starter had a terrible afternoon.
