Huddle Up: Freeman, a fourth-round pick last season, rushed for 248 yards and a TD on 65 carries and added 225 yards and a score on 30 receptions and right now, he's the front-runner for the starting job next fall with the team releasing veteran Steven Jackson on Friday. Still, the free-agent and 2015 draft RB classes are well-stocked, and don't be surprised if the Falcons add a back to compete for the No. 1 gig.

Huddle Up: Freeman finished with 95 offensive touches for 473 yards and two TDs as a rookie last season, and while he may emerge as the Falcons' No. 1 back next season, it figures to be a timeshare at the very least with a still yet to be determined RB.

Huddle Up: The rookie out of Florida State impressed this preseason in Steve Jackson's total absence, and figures to be in line to get the starting call should Jackson's hammy issues linger into next week.

Huddle Up: No injury issues, just a draining lesson hopefully learned for the rookie.

Huddle Up: Keep a close eye on this as the fourth-round pick is considered to be the top backup to the injury-idled Steven Jackson. And if Freeman's injury does turn out to be something serious, Antone Smith and Jacquizz Rodgers would see a real sudden bump in value.

Huddle Up: With veteran Steven Jackson sidelined (again) by a balky hammy, the fourth-round pick is getting a good run with the Falcons' first unit right out of the gate, and pass pro, of course, is atop the must-improve list for any rookie RB.
