Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman had 12 carries for 42 yards and a touchdown and five catches for 45 yards during the team's preseason finale Thursday, Aug. 28.

Huddle Up: The rookie out of Florida State impressed this preseason in Steve Jackson's total absence, and figures to be in line to get the starting call should Jackson's hammy issues linger into next week.

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman didn't have any protective gear on his body after practice Monday, Aug. 11, and initial reports are that the heat forced him to exit early.

Huddle Up: No injury issues, just a draining lesson hopefully learned for the rookie.

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman left practice early Monday, Aug. 11 and didn't return after suffering an undisclosed injury. “I don’t know exactly what happened,” Falcons coach Mike Smith told the Atlanta-Journal-Constitution. “He left the field and was not able to come back out. I don’t think it’s anything serious. But we’ll know a little more in the next hour or two.”

Huddle Up: Keep a close eye on this as the fourth-round pick is considered to be the top backup to the injury-idled Steven Jackson. And if Freeman's injury does turn out to be something serious, Antone Smith and Jacquizz Rodgers would see a real sudden bump in value.

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman has been performing well during training camp but has to improve his pass protection, according to offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter. 'I think that's the biggest adjustment for a running back going from college to the NFL,' Koetter said. 'He had a great college career but teams try to test rookie running backs. They've got those big outside linebackers. There's a lot of protections, there's a lot of calls. There's a learning curve. He's on the right track.'

Huddle Up: With veteran Steven Jackson sidelined (again) by a balky hammy, the fourth-round pick is getting a good run with the Falcons' first unit right out of the gate, and pass pro, of course, is atop the must-improve list for any rookie RB.
