Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano said RB Mike James will miss the rest of the year with a broken left ankle.

Huddle Up: James filled in admirably -- most notably in his 158-yard Week 9 outing in Seattle -- after Doug Martin went down, but the rookie's run came to an end in the first quarter Monday night.

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Mike James (ankle) had X-rays which revealed a fractured ankle, according to a source. He is out indefinitely.

Huddle Up: Fractured ankles and RBs definitely don't mix so don't expect to see the rookie the rest of the season. That leaves Brian Leonard and Bobby Rainey as the Bucs' primary backs, and expect a timeshare going forward.

Updating a previous report, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have ruled RB Mike James (ankle) out for the remainder of the Week 10 game against the Miami Dolphins. He suffered a left ankle injury in the first quarter, and was carted off to the locked room.

Huddle Up: This was one of the few negatives for the Bucs on a night in which they jumped out to double-digit lead over the Dolphins. James, who taken over from the injured Doug Martin in Week 7, was off to a strong start as well, picking up 41 yards on his 5 rushes and looked to be well on his way to a second straight 100-yard game. Brian Leonard and Bobby Rainey were pressed into action in James' absence.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Mike James got the start at running back Week 8 in place of RB Doug Martin (shoulder), and finished with 10 carries for 39 yards and 4 catches for 25 more.

Huddle Up: Even Martin had struggled in the past few starts, so expecting much from the rookie -- especially playing alongside a rookie QB against a stout Carolina D -- was a mistake. It's not going to get any easier, either, with a trip to Seattle up next.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Mike James is expected to have the edge over RBs Brian Leonard and Michael Smith for the No. 2 running back job during training camp.

Huddle Up: With LeGarrette Blount now out of the picture, the Bucs have a need for a big back to complement starter Doug Martin, and the 5-foot-10, 225-pound James -- a 6th-round pick out of Miami -- fills the bill on paper. He's still going to have to prove it on the field, though, in training camp and the preseason if he hopes to beat out the more experienced Leonard and Smith.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Mike James could have the inside track as the team's backup running back behind RB Doug Martin, according to general manager Mark Dominik.

Huddle Up: There's your handcuff alert, though hopefully Martin doesn't go down and your league isn't so big so as to require you to lock up Martin's backup.
