Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten has informed the team he'll retire Thursday, May 3, and join ESPN as an analyst on Monday Night Football.

Huddle Up: The Cowboys are suddenly in the market for a tight end. Second-year project tight end Rico Gathers could receive a look in camp, but the team might have to bring in outside help.

  • Posted: 4/29/2018 4:55pm ET

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett is trying to persuade TE Jason Witten to continue his playing career, according to a source.

Huddle Up: Witten is considering becoming a television analyst but has not made a final decision. Witten has been a solid fantasy option for several seasons and would be a No. 2 fantasy tight end if he decides to play in 2018.

  • Posted: 4/27/2018 12:48pm ET

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten 'will take some time to make a decision on his future' in regards to reports about announcing his retirement in order to become ESPN's new Monday Night Football lead analyst, according to team owner Jerry Jones.

Huddle Up: This has the feel of damage control - or the attempt of it - for the Cowboys, who really didn't need their hand forced to take a tight end on the second day of the draft, especially considering they have a screaming need at receiver. Rico Gathers' stock figures to spike in the coming days if Dallas doesn't land a blue-chip prospect, although the team is said to be high on Blake Jarwin as well.

  • Posted: 4/27/2018 9:15am ET

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten is reportedly planning to announce his retirement from the NFL on Friday, April 27, in order to become ESPN's new Monday Night Football lead analyst, per sources. Witten will reportedly meet with team owner Jerry Jones before making his decision final, however, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Huddle Up: Witten recently said he hoped he could play until he was 40, so ESPN must either have approached him with an offer he couldn't refuse or he had a serious changed of heart. Despite losing his speed long ago, he has been one of the league's most complete tight ends for his entire 15-year career - one which should earn him a trip to Canton five years now if he makes this official. His absence would leave a huge void in Dallas' offense - one the team may want to address when the draft resumes Friday night.

  • Posted: 3/24/2018 11:07am ET

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten has agreed to restructure his contract, which has created around $3.5 million in salary cap space for the Cowboys, according to sources.

Huddle Up: Witten has seen his stats drop a bit in each of the last two seasons but has posted at least 60 receptions in each of the last 14 seasons. He should be considered a solid No. 2 fantasy tight end in all leagues.

  • Posted: 1/2/2018 10:25pm ET

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten will return for his 16th NFL season in 2018.

Huddle Up: There was some speculation that Witten, who will turn 36 this May, would call it a career, but he put that to rest following the team's Week 17 win over Philadelphia. Witten is a steady possession target and solid blocker, but he hasn't been an explosive option for years now and is, at best, a late-round reserve with no upside.

  • Posted: 12/10/2017 5:30pm ET

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten had just one reception in Week 14 against the New York Giants but it was good for a 20-yard touchdown reception.

Huddle Up: Witten has been limited to one catch in four of his past six outings. The good news is he has found the end zone in two straight games, but he is a very risky fantasy option heading into Week 15 due to his inconsistency lately.

  • Posted: 12/10/2017 1:43pm ET

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten caught one pass for 20 yards and one touchdown against the New York Giants in Week 14.

Huddle Up: Witten has been limited to one catch in four of the last six games but does have a touchdown in each of the last two games. He should be owned in all leagues but may only be a starting option against favorable matchups.

  • Posted: 12/9/2017 7:34pm ET

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten faces the New York Giants in Week 14, and when he faced the Giants in Week 1, he finished with seven catches for 59 yards and a touchdown.

Huddle Up: The Giants have been one of the worst teams in the league when it comes to defending tight ends, and Witten exploited the matchup the first time around. If you need to stream a tight end in Week 14, Witten could be worth a look.

  • Posted: 11/30/2017 8:54pm ET

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten caught one pass, an eight-yard touchdown, in a 38-14 win over the Washington Redskins Thursday, Nov. 30.

Huddle Up: It was Witten's first touchdown in more than a month, but it marked the third time in the last five games that he has been held to just a single catch. He is a low-end TE2.

  • Posted: 11/23/2017 6:40pm ET

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten caught all seven of his targets for 44 yards in a 28-6 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers Thursday, Nov. 23, setting a record for most career receiving yards on Thanksgiving with 853.

Huddle Up: Witten has two one-catch games and two seven-catch performances over the last four weeks, and he remains a low-end backup in PPR formats.

  • Posted: 10/22/2017 7:16pm ET

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten posted four receptions for 54 yards and a touchdown in Week 7 against the San Francisco 49ers. With the score, Witten broke a tie with Michael Irvin for sole possession of third-place on the club's all-time receiving touchdowns list.

Huddle Up: Witten has posted 54 or more yards in four of his six outings and he has scored three times. After a couple of poor performances it appears Witten can once again be trusted as a low-end TE1 in all fantasy leagues heading into Week 8 against the Redskins.

  • Posted: 10/9/2017 4:41am ET

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten caught eight of his 10 targeted passes for 61 yards in a 35-31 loss to the Green Bay Packers Sunday, Oct. 8.

Huddle Up: It was a better performance than last week, when Witten was held to one catch. Still, QB Dak Prescott has so many targets on the field you have to wonder how Witten will do. He remains a decent TE1 option moving forward, but keep an eye on his matchups.

  • Posted: 10/1/2017 5:23pm ET

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten posted just one grab for nine yards on two targets in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Rams.

Huddle Up: It was a very disappointing game for Witten, as fantasy owners expected big things against a leaky Rams pass defense. What's worse, fantasy owners had to endure seeing James Hanna celebrating a 28-yard touchdown instead of Witten on the highlights. Witten will look to get on track in Week 5 against the Packers.
