Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas officially received the franchise tag Monday, March 2.

Huddle Up: This comes as no surprise. The tag allows Thomas to get paid and the Broncos to try to wring one more Super Bowl run out of Peyton Manning and their current roster. If Manning opts not to come back or shows his age next season, Denver isn't overly committed to a receiver who might not be nearly as valuable catching passes from Brock Osweiler.

The Denver Broncos are expected to use the franchise tag on WR Demaryius Thomas Monday, March 2, all but ensuring the team keeps the wideout for the 2015 season. They are expected to use the 'nonexclusive' tag, which makes it possible for other teams to negotiate with Thomas. However, the team has the right to match any offer, and if he is signed away the team is compensated by the signing team with two first-round draft picks.

Huddle Up: Nothing really new here as Thomas has been atop the Broncos' free-agent priority list for awhile now and the two sides will continue to work on hammering out a long-term deal. Among all pass catchers over the last three seasons, Thomas ranks third in receptions (297) and second in receiving yards (4,483) and receiving TDs (35).

Denver Broncos impending free-agent WR Demaryius Thomas will have the franchise tag placed on him if the team can't work out a long-term deal in the next few days, according to general manager John Elway. Both sides have had the framework of a five-year deal on the table over the last year. The franchise tag for receivers this year is expected to be in the $12.7 to $12.9 million range.

Huddle Up: Thomas, who has averaged 99 catches, 1,494 yards and 11.7 TDs in his three seasons with Peyton Manning, will remain in Orange & Blue one way or the other.

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas said he would love to remain a Bronco when he becomes a free agent this offseason, but he added that he is letting his agent handle things.

Huddle Up: Of the Broncos' 20 pending free agents, Thomas is atop the team's priority list and look for him to be back in orange and blue next season, via a new multi-year deal or franchise tag if necessary.

  • Posted: 1/8/2015 4:37pm ET

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas has caught only one of the 16 passes that have been targeted for him in the red zone over the last five games.

Huddle Up: Thomas is struggling right along with the rest of the Denver red-zone offense as PK Connor Barth was suddenly a busy man late in the season. Thomas' targets and red-zone usage, though, still make a very attractive fantasy start.

Denver Broncos WRs Demaryius Thomas (ankle, finger, elbow) and Emmanuel Sanders received the day off in practice Tuesday, Dec. 30. Thomas has been dealing with a right ankle injury for the past few weeks, but he left with a splint on his right middle finger after the Week 17 game. Thomas also had a wrap on his left elbow Monday, Dec. 29.

Huddle Up: Thomas and Sanders, who finished among the top 10 fantasy wideouts while topping 100 receptions apiece, might not have played at all this past Sunday had the Broncos not needed the win to clinch a playoff bye but will now have 2 weeks to rest and recover.

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas (ankle) is not participating in practice Wednesday, Dec. 10.

Huddle Up: Thomas played Sunday after getting his ankle stepped on in practice last week, but he clearly wasn't himself with 2 catches for 11 yards. He should be able to show something more in practice the rest of the week if he's going to avoid a repeat.

  • Posted: 12/9/2014 7:57pm ET

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas said he's fine with the team running the football more. 'If you're still playing in January and February, it seems like every good football team has some kind of running game,' Thomas said. 'If you get that balance between run and pass, I think we can go deeper and deeper.'

Huddle Up: Complicating matters for Thomas last Sunday was that he was less than 100 percent after having his ankle stepped on in practice last week, and he finished the game with season lows in targets (5), receptions (2) and receiving yards (11). If that didn't seal your playoff fate, thank the rest of your team and count on Thomas bouncing back quickly.

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas (ankle) is listed as probable for Week 14.

Huddle Up: Thomas, who had his ankle stepped on in practice Wednesday and sat out Thursday, returned to limited action Friday but will play in Week 14 barring an unforeseen reversal of fortune.

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas is not participating in practice Thursday, Dec. 4, after he had his ankle stepped on during practice Wednesday, Dec. 3.

Huddle Up: Ouch! Definitely something to keep a close eye on with one of fantasy's true elite wideouts sustaining a mid-week injury.

  • Posted: 10/23/2014 2:48pm ET

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas is not expected to have contract extension talks with the team during the season. Thomas will be a free agent this offseason, and the two sides are expected to talk after the season.

Huddle Up: Thomas, who has obliterated a slow start with 26 catches for 521 yards and 5 TDs over the last 3 games, doesn't appear to be headed anywhere as the Broncos certainly want to get a deal done and also have the franchise tag available if talks stall.

  • Posted: 7/30/2014 2:14pm ET

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas is not allowed to practice in pads at this point and will need to take part in two more practices before getting back into pads. Thomas missed some time last week after the death of his grandmother in Georgia.

Huddle Up: No worries here -- just D.T. and the Broncos adhering to the collective bargaining agreement's letter of the law.

  • Posted: 7/28/2014 11:39pm ET

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas practiced with the team Monday, July 28 after missing seven workouts.

Huddle Up: Condolences are in order but fantasy concern is not as D.T. had been in Georgia since last week following the death of his grandmother.

  • Posted: 6/15/2014 4:00pm ET

According to various media reports, the Denver Broncos have made a 5-year contract extension offer to WR Demaryius Thomas. However, it's just in the preliminary stages, and the two sides are not close to an agreement.

Huddle Up: Thomas is second to Megatron himself in terms of total WR fantasy points (447-430) over the last 2 seasons, and getting him signed with a year left on his current deal is obviously a priority for the Broncos.
