Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said RB Jahvid Best (concussion) is not participating in offseason workouts at this point.

Huddle Up: There haven't been any reports that we know of suggesting Best's NFL career will resume any time soon -- if at all -- as he hasn't played since Week 6 of the 2011 season.

Detroit Lions RB Jahvid Best's career is likely over due to concussions.

Huddle Up: Sadly, this news comes as no surprise. Best had video game elusiveness and burst but also a history of concussions that makes his decision to walk away from football the best move for his future.

Detroit Lions RB Jahvid Best (concussion) said Tuesday, Nov. 27, that team doctors haven't ruled out his potentially resuming his playing career at some point. 'They told me I can't say this season, but they didn't shut the door (on resuming later),' Best said.

Huddle Up: This has been the worst of the worst-case concussion scenarios of late, and you have to admire the determination of Best, who hasn't played since Week 6 of the 2011 season.

Huddle Up: A sad, unsurprising end to Best's season. Those fantasy owners that were holding out hope he might return can finally let go. Hopefully Best can resume his career at some point.

Detroit Lions RB Jahvid Best (concussion) did not pass his neurological tests last week, meaning he won't be allowed to return to the team this year. According to some sources, Best was never in line to return, but Detroit wanted him to gain another NFL season in order to have access to the league's pension plan. As of now, it appears unlikely that Best will ever play football in the NFL again.

Huddle Up: Sad news for Best, who was the Lions' first-round pick in 2010.

Updating a previous report, the Detroit Lions are hopeful that RB Jahvid Best (concussion) will be able to return to the field at some point. The team announced a press release after they determined that he will not be coming off the Physically Unable to Perform list this week. 'After today's consultation with medical experts, including representatives from our medical and training staffs, it has been determined that Jahvid will not be permitted to return to play at this time,' general manager Martin Mayhew said. 'Jahvid will continue to work with our medical and training staffs with the hope that he ultimately will be cleared to return to the playing field.'

Huddle Up: Those that have held Best for the first six weeks of the season may be best served to move on at this point.

Detroit Lions RB Jahvid Best (concussion) said he underwent a concussion test Monday, Oct. 8, and will receive the results Friday, Oct. 12. He said he is optimistic about being cleared to practice and play.

Huddle Up: Again, if you're looking for RB help, take a pre-emptive flier on Best.

Detroit Lions RB Jahvid Best (concussion) will undergo tests this week to determine if he can be taken off the Physically Unable to Perform list, and if he passes the tests, he could be activated as soon as Monday, Oct. 15. 'He's in very good physical shape,' head coach Jim Schwartz said. 'Each guy is a little bit different. We took an open mind with Mikel (Leshoure) when he came back. He was able to come back and have a really good opening game. We're too far away there.' Schwarz thinks Best could play right away after he returns, and he said that Best is in the best shape of his career.

Huddle Up: If you're in need of RB help or just want to take a flier on some point potential down the line, make a pre-emptive strike by grabbing Best now.

Best still has not received clearance to play, and the team is not sure when he will come off the PUP list. Best has met with several doctors and has not received a consensus about his condition.

Huddle Up: The Jahvid Best Mystery continues. The RB hasn't played since Week 6 of last season, and there remains no indication as to when -- or if -- he will return this season. If you've stashed him on your roster in a deeper league, hang on to him if you can afford the roster space, but there's no reason to pick him up in smaller leagues unless you are exceedingly desperate at RB.

Huddle Up: This was expected, now confirmed. Best is still being drafted, but at this point it is really anybodys guess if or when he will take the field again.

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said the team has not decided whether RB Jahvid Best (concussion) will start the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list but did say extra time off would benefit Best. Best has been working out by himself since has not been cleared to practice.

Huddle Up: This is troubling situation for all parties involved, including fantasy GMs who, halfway through the preseason, still have few clues as to what to make of the Detroit RB situation. Best seemingly has had plenty of time, having not played since Week 6 of last season, and the question has to be raised if we'll ever see Best in another NFL game.

The return date for Detroit Lions RB Jahvid Best (concussion) remains unknown. Best has not played since he suffered a concussion Oct. 16 last season against the San Francisco 49ers. There is speculation he will likely begin the season on the reserve PUP list, which would force him to miss the first six weeks of the NFL season.

Huddle Up: Definitely a situation to avoid.

Huddle Up: This should not come as a surprise as Best has yet to be cleared for contact due to concussion issues. The Lions backfield is being whittled down by attrition, and it looks like Best might not make any fantasy contributions at this rate.

Detroit Lions RB Jahvid Best (concussion) was scheduled to meet with his doctor this month to receive clearance to participate during training camp, but his representatives are not commenting on whether he received the clearance yet.

Huddle Up: Best is currently the ultimate boom-or-bust pick of 2012, priced in the mid-sixth round. If you pick him, you're likely passing on names such as Antonio Brown, Jermichael Finley, James Starks, or even Eli Manning. But if Best gives you 12+ games it could be a big-time payoff.

Detroit Lions GM Martin Mayhew said he expects a breakthrough season for Jahvid Best.

Huddle Up: We haven't heard much about the concussion issues lately, and no news is probably good news. After mini-camps wrapped Mayhew said, "I think Jahvid has been outstanding. His speed and quickness, he looks great." Best is expected to be cleared for contact in training camp. Don't forget he was the eighth-ranked fantasy PPR RB when he went down last year.
