Kansas City Chiefs WR Dexter McCluster said he is looking forward to playing in head coach Andy Reid's offensive scheme because he will be used at different positions. 'Keeping the defense on their toes,' McCluster said. 'Move me around, make a headache for the defense. He said he wants to use me in multiple places. That's the type of player I am and that's the type of player I've been. Now I have the opportunity to showcase what I can really do.'

Huddle Up: McCluster was definitely more of a receiver last season with Jamaal Charles' return, getting only 12 rushing attempts after having 114 a year earlier. McCluster did catch a career-high 52 passes for 452 yards, and look for that to continue as RBs always see plenty of targets in Reid's offenses.

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said he has plans on how to use WR Dexter McCluster next season. 'I like McCluster,' Reid said. 'I think he's a good football player and he has a role on this football team. I've got some things in mind for him.'

Huddle Up: Reid was toying with the idea of drafting McCluster in 2010 before the Chiefs swooped him up in the second round. The cat-quick back is coming off back-to-back seasons with career highs in rushing (516 yards in 2011) and receiving (452 this past season), and it's entirely possible he could approach both figures in 2013.

Kansas City Chiefs WR Dexter McCluster could have a bigger role in the offense under head coach Andy Reid because of his versatility. The Philadelphia Eagles were very interested in McCluster during the 2010 NFL Draft when Reid was the Eagles head coach.

Huddle Up: Any pass-catching back is going to thrive under Reid, and McCluster certainly fills the bill after finishing second on the Chiefs this past season with 52 receptions for 452 yards. One big qualifier, however: Jamaal Charles can also catch the ball, and he remains the No. 1 RB, bar none, in K.C.

Kansas City Chiefs WR Dexter McCluster (illness) did not participate in practice Friday, Dec. 28, and is listed as questionable for Week 17.

Huddle Up: A Friday illness doesn't sound too dire, but check back with The Huddle's Game Day Inactives, Injuries and Weather report before kickoff Sunday.

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel said Monday, Nov. 26, that WR Dexter McCluster has a head injury, and he was re-evaluated. Crennel expects to know more later on McCluster's status for Week 13 and beyond.

Huddle Up: McCluster was heavily involved in Sunday's game plan, catching 4 passes for 21 yards and rushing twice for 23 more yards. If you're a McCluster owner, you know the drill with the WR now headed for a week of evaluation.

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel said WR Dexter McCluster is dealing with an elbow injury but the team will not get the official diagnosis for another day or two.

Huddle Up: McCluster continues to be be involved in the offense with 3 catches for 28 yards and a rush for 5 yards in a little more than a half Sunday, but his small stature (5-7, 170) isn't ideal for NFL punishment. It was initially reported that the WR/RB had a shoulder ailment, but now the elbow issue has cropped up. Keep posted.

Kansas City Chiefs WR Dexter McCluster had six receptions for a team-high 82 yards in Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons. He also had a game-high 10 targets.

Huddle Up: Those targets came largely at the expense of just about every other wideout on Kansas City's roster, except for Dwayne Bowe. In this versatile role McCluster becomes a sneaky fantasy contributor in PPR leagues.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Dexter McCluster has been working with the wide receivers during training camp. He has lined up mostly as the slot receiver during team drills.

Huddle Up: This is no surprise to Chiefs followers what with the team's restocked RB corps. Jamaal Charles looks to be right on track in returning from a last year's early-season knee injury, and Peyton Hillis signed with the club as a free agent during the offseason. Obviously that's going to limit the backfield touches available for McCluster, but his diminutive size (5-8, 170) and quickness will serve him well as a slot receiver. He's seen a few snaps there his first two seasons, and finished with 46 catches for 328 yards and a TD last year.

Posted: 7/18/2012 9:58pm et

Kansas City Chiefs RB Dexter McCluster should still factor into the team's running game in 2012. McCluster is just too versatile, and new offensive coordinator Brian Daboll values game-specific matchups far too much. The Chiefs worked McCluster out of the slot during offseason workouts, but the position change appeared more exploratory than permanent.

Huddle Up: There won't be many carries available for McCluster after Jamaal Charles and Peyton Hillis get their share. McCluster averaged about seven carries and three receptions per game last year. It's difficult to imagine either number spiking in 2012.

Posted: 6/30/2012 3:55pm et

Kansas City Chiefs RB Dexter McCluster said he has been watching tape of New England Patriots WR Wes Welker this offseason because he could see time as a slot receiver this season. McCluster said he would like to play like Welker does because Welker gets open and plays hard every play.

Huddle Up: Indications in KC are that McCluster is moving away from the dual RB/WR role, and Welker certainly isn't a bad slot guy to emulate. Unfortunately for McCluster and his fantasy owners, the Chiefs aren't going to throw the ball nearly as much as the Patriots.

Posted: 5/26/2012 7:10pm et

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel said RB Dexter McCluster has been working with the wide receivers during organized team activities because he already knows what to do at running back and needs more reps at wide receiver. Crennel indicated the team will use him at both positions this season.

Huddle Up: McCluster will find it tough to get snaps in the backfield behind Jamaal Charles and Peyton Hillis, so it makes sense for him to spend more time at WR. He's still a fringe fantasy helper, though the position flexibility doesn't hurt him.
