Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said the team has some concern over RB Toby Gerhart's three fumbles in Week 3 because they do not want him to lose confidence. 'We're going to need Toby to make big plays for us throughout this season, and we've got to keep his confidence up,' Frazier said. 'We know he's capable of holding onto the football. He usually does a good job with that. We don't want him to go in the tank and get down.'
Huddle Up: Gerhart only has 24 touches in 3 games, so his early-season fumble ratio (1 every 12 touches) isn't good. The Vikings do need Gerhart, though, to spell Adrian Peterson, who still is only 9 months removed from his knee-ligament tears.

There are no plans by the Minnesota Vikings coaching staff to let RB Toby Gerhart shoulder a heavier load in the preseason opener Friday, Aug. 10, against the San Francisco 49ers. 'We'll get him in there some,' head coach Leslie Frazier said Monday, Aug. 6, 'but we're not going to hand it off to him a lot, not in the preseason. He'll have limited reps for sure.'
Huddle Up: Wise strategy. There's simply no reason to subject your No. 2 RB to extra risk with Adrian Peterson's return timetable still uncertain. The Vikes know what they have in Gerhart, and it'll be vital to have him fresh for the regular season, no matter when Peterson returns.

Minnesota Vikings RB Toby Gerhart said he is preparing as if he will be the starting running back Week 1 but is not ruling out the possibility that RB Adrian Peterson will be ready for the start of the regular season.
Huddle Up: Peterson's very public rehab of the torn ACL he suffered last season has him looking like he'll be at least close to ready by Week 1, but the Vikings and Gerhart have to prepare as if Gerhart will be taking those initial snaps. He's a must-handcuff to AP in an offense that loves to run the ball and will likely use both backs extensively once Peterson is fully healthy.

Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier indicated RB Toby Gerhart may receive a heavy workload at the beginning of the season because of RB Adrian Peterson's knee. Frazier said the team wants Gerhart at a certain weight when he gets to training camp but do not want him to lose his speed.
Huddle Up: Gerhart's ADP has risen from the 11th to the 9th round in two months.
