The San Francisco 49ers have acquired QB Colt McCoy and a sixth-round draft choice from the Cleveland Browns for a fifth-round draft choice and seventh-round draft choice. McCoy and Scott Tolzien are expected to compete for the Niners' No. 2 quarterback job next season. The team could also add a rookie to the competition.
Huddle Up: McCoy has enough mobility to run Colin Kaepernick's offense on a short-term basis, but all he really is for San Francisco is low-cost insurance.

The Seattle Seahawks could show interest in Cleveland Browns QB Colt McCoy as a backup quarterback if he is released this offseason.
Huddle Up: McCoy has been a capable pro and would be decent insurance behind Russell Wilson in Seattle.

Despite earlier reports to the contrary, the Cleveland Browns have no plans to cut QB Colt McCoy. The team may be holding out for a trade, as McCoy has become expendable now that the Browns signed QB Jason Campbell.
Huddle Up: Doesn't sound like McCoy is in the Browns' future plans, so look for Cleveland to try to create a market for him; failing that, they'll likely release McCoy and go with Brandon Weeden and Campbell as their quarterbacks.

A source within the Cleveland Browns organizations said Friday, Jan. 4, that just over a week ago team president Joe Banner told QB Colt McCoy that he is "in the next head coach's plans."
Huddle Up: Interesting, since the Browns don't officially have a next coach yet. But depending on who winds up calling the shots in Cleveland, Colt may be back in the driver's seat in 2013.

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns head coach Pat Shurmur said QB Colt McCoy (shoulder) has not been ruled out for Week 17 even though he will miss practice Wednesday, Dec. 26, because of a shoulder injury.
Huddle Up: Not that the Browns have much to play for, but the offense had better hope McCoy can start this week. Thaddeus Lewis is taking first-team reps right now. Incidentally, the Steelers defense might be a good start this week if you are still playing fantasy football.

Cleveland Browns general manager Tom Heckert said he expects to receive phone calls from other teams about the availability of QB Colt McCoy but is in no hurry to make a decision on McCoy.
Huddle Up: The Browns shouldn't be in any hurry whatsoever considering that starter and first-round pick Brandon Weeden has yet to set the NFL on fire this preseason. It's a longshot, but McCoy still has a shot to start for the Browns in Week 1 of the regular season.

Cleveland Browns QB Colt McCoy is still battling for the backup quarterback job with QB Seneca Wallace. McCoy was more accurate than Wallace Tuesday, Aug. 21, but McCoy lacks the same velocity as QB Brandon Weeden, who is expected to start. 'When I first got diagnosed with this,' McCoy said, 'the doctor said it was a two- to three-year recovery. OK? So now I'm getting to that point, and my shoulder feels really good. The ball's coming out well. There's a lot of zip on it.'
Huddle Up: Breaking it down, there's really not a whole lot of difference between all 3 Browns QBs, but that doesn't mean that any of then is a viable fantasy option outside of the deepest of leagues. As of this update, Weeden stood 27th in The Huddle's quarterback rankings, putting him just outside backup range in a 12-team league.

Cleveland Browns QB Colt McCoy has not been made aware of any quarterback competition in camp. McCoy is focusing on running the offense, as opposed to individual plays.
Huddle Up: When camp opened last week it was rookie Brandon Weeden working first with the starters, not McCoy. It's definitely a competition, Colt.
