New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) won't ever be the same after his season-ending knee injury, according to Dr. David Chao. "He can return to 100 percent, but it (his knee) is a car in a car accident," said Chao, a former NFL team physician. "Never brand new when fixed." There is no timetable for Cruz's rehab, and there is no prognosis for the rest of his career. His injury could rob him of his explosiveness and change-of-direction ability. A handful of NFL players have returned from this type of injury, but none of them discovered their elite form. A torn patellar tendon can't be fixed arthroscopically, so it needs a massive open procedure that will require lengthy and painful rehab. Cruz will need to rebuild the muscles around the tendon, and it'll likely be 6 months before he can even try to run again.

Huddle Up: Just a crushing turn of developments for the undrafted free agent who took the NFL by storm in 2011 when he debuted with 82 catches for 1,536 yards and 9 TDs. He was off to a 23-337-1 start this season.

Updating previous reports, New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair his torn patellar tendon.

Huddle Up: Cruz is done for the year. Odell Beckham will move into the starting lineup with Preston Parker getting first crack at slot receiver. Beckham is a must-add in all formats if he's still on the waiver wire.

Updating a previous report, New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) was taken off on a cart after suffering a torn patellar tendon in his right knee. As he was carted off, he was sobbing on the way back to the locker room.

Huddle Up: Cruz will miss the rest of the 2014 season. It's an opportunity for Odell Beckham Jr. to claim more looks in the Giants' passing game, though as a whole New York's offense looked lousy Sunday night against the Eagles.

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz had three drops in Week 2 after demanding to see the ball more before the game. He vowed to get better moving forward.

Huddle Up: Maybe the Giants should demand that Cruz catch the ball better? The new-look Giants offense is still a work in progress, as is Cruz's role in said offense.

  • Posted: 9/9/2014 7:31pm ET

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz thinks the offense will improve if more targets are directed his way. 'In order for us to be successful I think there needs to be an increased number of targets in my direction,' Cruz said, on a conference call with reporters. 'And other playmakers' directions, just like Rueben Randle as well, in my opinion.' Cruz had only six targets and finished with two grabs and 24 yards in the team's Week 1 loss to the Detroit Lions Monday, Sept. 8. Randle was targeted only three times for two catches and one yard.

Huddle Up: Cruz and Randle owners shouldn't have been expecting too much out of the gate following the first team's offensive struggles in the preseason, but 9 combined targets and 4 total receptions for the duo was nightmarish. See if things improve in Week 2 and if not, it might be time to start mapping out the quickest route to the panic button.

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) was seen limping following a collision in one-on-one drills at practice Tuesday, Aug. 12.

Huddle Up: We haven't heard anything to suggest this wasn't anything more than your typical camp bump or bruise. If so, Cruz should be back on the field Wednesday.

  • Posted: 8/11/2014 8:42pm ET

Updating a previous report, New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) simply had a maintenance day while missing practice Monday, Aug. 11 according to a source.

Huddle Up: Nothing to be overly concerned about with the Giants' top wideout, who currently owns an ADP in the low 30s as the 14th WR, on average, coming off the board.

  • Posted: 4/24/2014 1:08am ET

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) said he is 100 percent healthy and will not be limited during offseason workouts.

Huddle Up: Good news on the Cruz front, as he'll need all the reps he can get in the Giants' revamped offense--especially if he's hoping to replicate the Randall Cobb role in Ben McAdoo's offense.

  • Posted: 3/4/2014 12:28am ET

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz said he believes he could be used like the Green Bay Packers use WR Randall Cobb, because offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo worked with the Packers in 2013. 'I do see myself as a Randall Cobb,' Cruz said. 'Hopefully I can sneak in that backfield for a couple plays. I don't know how effective that will be. But we'll definitely see where it takes us. But we'll see. I'm excited to be all over the field this year.' Cruz said he is completely recovered from the knee surgery he had in December. He has been working on weight training for now but hopes to start running routes by the end of March.

Huddle Up: The sooner Cruz gets healthy, the sooner he can start demonstrating his considerable skills first-hand for McAdoo--and the more likely McAdoo is to concoct plays to take advantage of Cruz, like the Packers have done for Cobb.

  • Posted: 1/26/2014 11:46pm ET

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz said he is very excited about the addition of offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo because he believes McAdoo will make the offense extremely explosive.

Huddle Up: This is a situation to watch as McAdoo brings a slice of the Packers' passing game east -- maybe just the remedy after the rugged off-season the Giants just got done struggling through.

  • Posted: 1/24/2014 11:21pm ET

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) said the rehab from his knee injury is going well and that his knee is responding to treatment.

Huddle Up: No news is good news when it comes to rehab, so as long as Cruz is staying out of the headlines and off the operating table everything's A-OK in New York.

  • Posted: 1/8/2014 12:45pm ET

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (concussion, knee) said he'll be ready for offseason training activities. He's off crutches and doing weight work.

Huddle Up: The Giants have some rebuilding to do with regards to their passing game, so having Cruz on board for offseason activities should help them hit the ground running next fall.

  • Posted: 12/26/2013 10:35pm ET

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 26, and has been ruled out for Week 17.

Huddle Up: As expected, Cruz has been shut down for the season, missing the team's final 2 games.

  • Posted: 12/25/2013 5:15pm ET

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Dec. 25.

Huddle Up: It's unlikely he plays this week, but keep an eye on his situation.

  • Posted: 12/19/2013 4:20pm ET

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Thursday, Dec. 19 and will miss the remainder of the season.

Huddle Up: As expected, a disappointing season has come to an early end for Cruz, who finished with 73 catches for 998 yards and 4 TDs -- but none since Week 4. Rueben Randle will now step into Giants' starting lineup alongside Hakeem Nicks.

  • Posted: 12/18/2013 2:32pm ET

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee, concussion) is not practicing Wednesday, Dec. 18, and head coach Tom Coughlin said Cruz's knee 'will probably prevent (Cruz) from doing anything.' The Giants are more concerned with his knee than his concussion.

Huddle Up: As expected. You should find an alternative.

  • Posted: 12/16/2013 12:05am ET

Updating a previous report, New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (concussion, knee) was unable to return to the Week 15 game against the Seattle Seahawks due to a concussion and knee injury. Head coach Tom Coughlin was uncertain if Cruz would be able to return for the final two regular season games.

Huddle Up: Updating an earlier report. It looks like you might need to find an alternative.

  • Posted: 12/15/2013 10:33pm ET

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (concussion, knee) left the Week 15 game with a concussion and a sprained knee. He will not return.

Huddle Up: Cruz has been a bitter disappointment for much of the season, and now you might be without him for your fantasy championship game if you got there. Plan accordingly.

  • Posted: 11/8/2013 4:57pm ET

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (neck) fully participated in practice Friday, Nov. 8, and is probable for Week 10.

Huddle Up: Cruz has shown steady progress throughout the week after sitting out Wednesday and practicing Thursday while wearing a red, non-contact jersey, so count on him being good to go on game day.

  • Posted: 10/28/2013 1:43am ET

Updating a previous report, New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (stinger) said Sunday, Oct. 27, that he suffered a stinger in the Week 8 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. After having X-rays taken, he was able to return to the game and finish up. He ended up with 86 yards on seven receptions, and he was targeted 10 times.

Huddle Up: It was good to see him back on the field. David Wilson injured his neck and was nearly knocked out for the season.
