NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Thursday, Aug. 2, he may discipline Detroit Lions DT Nick Fairley, who is charged with marijuana possession and a DUI in two separate cases in Alabama, before the courts have their say.
Huddle Up: This would be another offseason blow for the up-and-coming Lions, who waived cornerback Aaron Berry last month due to his legal issues. Fairley was limited to 10 games last year in his rookie season, finishing with 17 total tackles and a sack, and the Lions would like more in-game opportunities to see where the DT fits in to their D-line rotation.

Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions DT Nick Fairley could face a suspension from the NFL for his two arrests this offseason. The team is not going to release Fairley after his two arrests because they are financially invested in him and believes he will be a major contributor this season.
Huddle Up: What is up with the Lions and their off-field issues? On the field they're coming off their best season in 16 years -- but it's like they want to be the new Cincinnati Bengals off the field. Fairley and Mikel Leshoure have each been arrested twice, Ndamukong Suh is driving his car like a wild banshee, and Titus Young allegedly sucker-punched Louis Delmas at the team facility.

Detroit Lions DT Nick Fairley was arrested Sunday, May 27, and charged with driving under the influence and attempting to elude police.
Huddle Up: The Lions were hoping Fairley would emulate Ndamukong Suh; they just hoped it would be on the field rather than off. At minimum Fairley's wild ride will put him on the league radar; if he's already in the program, he'll get a game or two vacation courtesy of the Commissioner.
