Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said RB Mikel Leshoure could get a bigger role under offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi, because the New Orleans Saints used multiple running backs when Lombardi coached there.

Huddle Up: Just what fantasy owners need: Another Saints RB logjam. Leshoure only had 2 total touches for 9 yards this past season after racking up 249 for 1,012 in 2012, but if his totals increase, it will cut into the workloads of Reggie Bush and Joique Bell.

Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure has accepted the backup role with the team, but is open to being traded to a team that would rely on him as more than a backup running back.

Huddle Up: If he played better he might have a bigger role. Right now Joique Bell is simply the better running back.

Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure said Tuesday, Aug. 6, that he didn't have burst, but it had nothing to do with his Achilles' injury from 2011. He suffered a hamstring injury toward the end of the Week 3 game last year, and it lingered with him all season. He is confident his legs are back, and he is out to prove why the team invested a second-round pick on him back in 2011. "I feel lighter and feel a little more of a burst," Leshoure said. "I don't know if that's from the weight (he's dropped five pounds and is currently at 229 points) or the fact it's a year under my belt and I have my legs back."

Huddle Up: If Leshoure and Reggie Bush can both stay healthy the Lions will have a formidable backfield tandem. Then the question becomes, how many backfield touches will there be on such a pass-heavy team? Even if Leshoure does get his burst back, Bush's presence and the Lions' pass-heavy game plan limit his fantasy potential.

Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure (hamstring) was able to have limited participation during organized team activities Monday, June 4. He said he is trying to manage his lingering hamstring injury in hopes of being 100 percent once training camp begins.

Huddle Up: Heading into his 3rd pro season, the 2011 2nd-round pick has yet to play a full season's worth of games. Reggie Bush is now the top RB dog in Detroit, and if Leshoure continues to battle the injury bug, Joique Bell could edge ahead on the depth chart.

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said he does not think RB Mikel Leshoure is dealing with a long-term injury. Schwartz said the team is taking a cautious approach with Leshoure because they do not want him to rush him back.

Huddle Up: Leshoure is sidelined with a hamstring injury, and since he's had such a difficult time staying on the field it's a valid question as to how much the Lions can trust him. Right now he's slated to be the inside guy in Detroit's RBBC, but if Leshoure continues to be bitten by the injury bug Reggie Bush's fantasy value will climb.
