Miami Dolphins RB Daniel Thomas (ankle) worked off to the side during practice Tuesday, Dec. 17.

Huddle Up: Thomas, who followed up his 109-yard, 1-TD Week 14 effort with only 18 total yards and a receiving TD Sunday, is still not over the ankle issue and will be extremely tough to depend on, especially now that the fantasy stakes are higher.

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller (concussion) suffered a concussion in the Week 14 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. RB Daniel Thomas came on and posted 105 rushing yards and a touchdown on 16 carries.

Huddle Up: It seemed like Thomas might be out for a while, but he came back and had an excellent game after Miller exited with a concussion. He might well be worth an add if Miller is going to miss any time.

Miami Dolphins RB Daniel Thomas (ankle) is not expected to play in the team's Week 14 game. He is listed as questionable for the game.

Huddle Up: Lamar Miller got 22 carries last week with Thomas out, so expect him to be the feature back again on Sunday. Miller has a tough matchup against the Steelers but he's a strong flex play for fantasy playoffs with Thomas no longer in the mix for carries.

Miami Dolphins RB Daniel Thomas (ankle) was at practice and riding a bike on the side while the team worked out Tuesday, Dec. 3.

Huddle Up: Thomas also is reportedly walking without a limp, but it remains likely that he'll miss a second straight game Sunday in Pittsburgh.

Miami Dolphins RB Daniel Thomas (ankle) did not practice Friday, Nov. 29, and has been ruled out for the team's Week 13 game.

Huddle Up: As expected, Thomas won't play Sunday against the Jets, paving the way for more touches for the severely struggling Lamar Miller.

Miami Dolphins RB Daniel Thomas (ankle) may not miss the rest of the season due to a high-ankle sprain. There were several reports indicating he would miss the remainder of the season, but he hopes to return in a few weeks.

Huddle Up: In the meantime, Thomas' absence should benefit the fantasy fortunes of fellow RB Lamar Miller, but Miller simply has been unstartable with a total of 27 rushing yards on 21 carries -- no, there's not a missing numeral -- over his last 3 games.

Miami Dolphins RB Daniel Thomas (ankle) was on crutches and in a walking boot after the Week 12 game.

Huddle Up: If Thomas can't go in Week 13 the bulk of the Dolphins' backfield work would go to Lamar Miller. You might also see Charles Clay get a couple short-yardage carries from the fullback position.

Miami Dolphins RB Daniel Thomas (ankle) is questionable to return to Week 12's game against the Carolina Panthers after suffering a left ankle injury.

Huddle Up: It was a terrible matchup for the Dolphins run game, but this could be good news for Lamar Miller going forward.

The Miami Dolphins are not naming a starting running back between RBs Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas just two weeks from Week 1. Both Miller and Thomas took first-team snaps during 11-on-11 drills Wednesday, Aug. 21, and Miller had nine snaps with the first-team offense Monday, Aug. 19. Thomas hasn't started a game in the preseason but got 12 snaps Monday and is pushing for the starting job. 'They're both very young. They don't have a lot of snaps in them just yet. But they both have a chance to be good running backs in this league and see how far they can go. I'd rather have two good ones than one, put it that way.' Miller has failed to separate himself from Thomas and prove he deserves the job. Miller fumbled in the preseason opener and dropped a crucial third-down pass last weekend.

Huddle Up: Is this coachspeak, or is Miller really in trouble? Even if Thomas forces a 50/50 split, it's hard to think Miller will let him keep it for long. He's got the upside in that backfield, but this is a situation to monitor.

Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland praised RB Lamar Miller in a radio interview Wednesday, April 14, but also indicated the battle for the starting job is far from over. 'I don't think it's just going to be Lamar's position. We've got a good running back in (RB Daniel Thomas) that's certainly making some noise,' Ireland said. The GM said he feels Miller and Thomas will be a 'pretty good one/two punch.'

Huddle Up: Thomas has done very little in his two years with the Dolphins averaging just 3.5 yards per carry and losing almost as many fumbles (3) as scoring touchdowns (4). However, Miller didn't play much as a rookie and he had question marks coming out of college about his vision and elusiveness. Miller is still the best bet to make the biggest fantasy impact this season out of the two but with a current ADP of Round 3, you have to pay a hefty price for an unproven commodity.

Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Mike Sherman indicated this week that RB Lamar Miller is not necessarily locked in as the top tailback on the depth chart over RB Daniel Thomas, at least not yet. "Yeah, I would say it's pretty close, the running back competition," Sherman said. "I thought that Daniel Thomas did a really nice job in the game the other day. Certainly Miller has had his shining moments as well, and some of the younger guys have stepped up."

Huddle Up: It would be a major upset if Miller isn't the Dolphins' primary back this season, but stranger things have happened.
