Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) wasn't expected to do a lot at practice Wednesday, Dec. 17, but he took first-team snaps at running back while wearing a pad on top of his left hand. Head coach Jason Garrett said the team wanted to see him work in practice to make sure he could carry the ball under duress. "You start with a plan and a vision for what you need to have there and then you just go through feedback, with DeMarco and the training staff, you try to get it to the point where it's functional and comfortable for him to go play," Garrett said of the added protection. "It's an evolution. They'll talk back and forth as the week goes on hopefully get something he's comfortable with."

Huddle Up: Sounds like the first hurdle has been cleared by Murray is his attempt to play this Sunday, but we'll have to keep monitoring the situation and see how Murray is progressing.

  • Posted: 12/16/2014 7:25pm ET

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) will likely be a game-time decision against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 16, according to owner Jerry Jones. Jones said the team is still evaluating Murray's status for this weekend. "I think we just want to take a look at it. We don't know," Jones said. "I'm not so sure, when they say the definition of healing, how much can heal between now and Sunday." RBs Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar will prepare for increased workloads if Murray can't play, and RB Ryan Williams could be activated off the practice squad.

Huddle Up: Complicating matters is that the game is a late-afternoon start, so hopefully, Murray owners have Joseph Randle ready to plug in.

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) has a good chance to play in Week 16 against the Indianapolis Colts despite having surgery on a broken left hand, according to owner Jerry Jones. However, Jones thinks RBs Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar can carry the load efficiently if Murray has to sit. Jones also added that Murray won't need to practice this week in order to play.

Huddle Up: Hey, we all know Cowboys' injury reports aren't official until Jerry weighs in with his medical prognosis.

  • Posted: 12/16/2014 10:43am ET

Updating an earlier report, Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) isn't risking further injury by playing in Week 16. The team believes he can play.

Huddle Up: Murray's magnificent season got you to your fantasy bowl; now you'll need Joseph Randle or one of your own bench players to get you the title.

  • Posted: 12/15/2014 3:14pm ET

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) suffered a broken bone in his hand during the team's Week 15 game and will undergo surgery Monday, Dec. 15, according to executive vice president Stephen Jones. Murray has not been ruled out for Week 16 at this point.

Huddle Up: It's awful news for Murray owners. Emmitt Smith suffered the same injury when he played and missed one game. Murray is set to face the soft Colts rush defense. If he can't go, Joseph Randle will likely get the start with Lance Dunbar getting work as the third-down back. Randle should be added in all formats right now. He would be an RB2 option this week if Murray can't play.

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray carried the ball a career-high 32 times in the Week 14 game against the Chicago Bears, and he also had a career-best nine receptions. He said he feels great, and the workload isn't a concern to Murray or head coach Jason Garrett. 'DeMarco is a guy who has shown he can handle the workload, both as a runner and a receiver,' Garrett said Tuesday, Dec. 9. 'He wants more. He never wants to come out of the game. He's a bell cow player and it doesn't look like he's slowing down at all to me. He feels great, he says he feels great and really looks like he's playing a very high level.'

Huddle Up: Especially with Tony Romo banged up, the Cowboys will need to lean on Murray down the stretch to make a playoff run. He hasn't shown signs of wearing down yet, but it's worth noting that the last player with 41 touches in an NFL game was Larry Johnson.

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray finished with 32 carries for 179 yards and a TD and nine catches for 49 yards in a 41-28 win over the Chicago Bears Thursday, Dec. 4.

Huddle Up: A season-high 228 total yards and a score is exactly what Murray's fantasy owners were hoping for against the defensively-challenged Bears. Condolences if you were on the other side of the matchup and find yourself starting a playoff weekend in a sizable hole.

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (head) left to be evaluated for concussion in the Week 10 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. However, he was able to return to the game and had rush attempts in the fourth quarter before RB Joseph Randle finished up.

Huddle Up: Murray was able to hit 100 yards exactly on 18 carries to post his 9th 100-yard rushing game in 10 outings this season. He also added 31 yards on a season high-matching 6 receptions, but the only downside for Murray's fantasy owners is that it was Randle who scored the Cowboys' only rushing TD of the game. Dallas is on bye next week, giving Murray a much-needed break after 280 touches to date.

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray became the first running back to reach 1,000 yards this season during the team's Week 8 game Monday, Oct. 27. He finished the game with 19 carries for 141 yards and four catches for 80 yards.

Huddle Up: Murray has now eclipsed 100 rushing yards in each of his 8 games and his 221 yards from scrimmage Monday night were the second-highest single-game total of his career. On the flip side, Murray failed to get into the end zone for only the second game all season and coughed up his fifth fumble of the year, but he still leads all fantasy RBs by a comfortable margin.

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray is the first player in NFL history with over 100 rushing yards in each of his first seven games to begin a season, surpassing Hall of Fame RB Jim Brown.

Huddle Up: Murray is having a remarkable season, capitalizing on the Cowboys' renewed commitment to the ground game and a line that features the teams' last three first-round picks

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (illness) is participating in practice Thursday, Oct. 16.

Huddle Up: The league's leading rusher and top fantasy back caused a minor stir by sitting out Wednesday with an illness, but no worries here.

  • Posted: 10/15/2014 3:28pm ET

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray is not participating in practice Wednesday, Oct. 15, because he is believed to be sick.

Huddle Up: No worries, just a temporary illness and a well deserved day off for fantasy's top back.

  • Posted: 10/14/2014 11:37pm ET

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray said he is not concerned about his heavy workload this year and isn't letting it affect the way he runs.

Huddle Up: Hey, so far so great for Murray, but -- again -- keep in mind that he's never played more than 14 games in a season or had more than 270 touches in a year. At his current rate of 30 touches per game, he's on pace for 480 this season.

  • Posted: 10/3/2014 1:05pm ET

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray is unlikely to have his workload limited, in the opinion of beat writer Todd Archer. Archer believes the team will pick and choose their spots. If they have a big lead or are down by a wide margin, he'll be rested.

Huddle Up: Currently with a league-leading 99 rushing attempts through 4 games, Murray is on pace for a whopping 396 carries. He has never had more than 217 in any of his previous three seasons -- or played more than 14 games in a season, for that matter -- and it's a combination and track record that should concern Murray's fantasy owners. Complicating the issue is that there's no one true handcuff behind Murray with Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar likely to split the workload if he should miss time.

  • Posted: 9/30/2014 10:45am ET

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray has 108 touches through four games. The team may try to taper his usage back in the coming weeks.

Huddle Up: That's a 432-touch pace for the season, a bit on the high side for a guy with an injury history like Murray's. Expect Dallas to find ways to lower that number, hopefully without limiting the effectiveness of the NFL's leading rusher.

  • Posted: 9/18/2014 7:07pm ET

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray will return to the ball-carrying style he used in his first three seasons with the team when he lost only three fumbles. Murray has already fumbled twice in the first two games of this season while carrying the ball with his left hand. "You definitely make more plays when the ball is in your outside hand," Murray said, "(But) I just got to be smart about it and see what happens. Can't overthink it, so I'm not worried about it."

Huddle Up: The two lost fumbles have been the only negative for Murray, who leads the league with 285 rushing yards and 316 yards from scrimmage on 55 touches.

  • Posted: 8/13/2014 4:18pm ET

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray is expected to receive most of the carries this season, but other running backs could also receive some snaps as part of a committee at running back, according to Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett.

Huddle Up: The key for Murray, as usual, will be staying healthy as he's missed 11 games over his 3 seasons in Big D. Last year, he played in a career-high 14 games and easily hit career highs in rushing attempts (217), receptions (53) and yards from scrimmage (1,471)

  • Posted: 7/17/2014 8:03pm ET

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray said he is in good health as he heads into training camp. "I'm excited. I'm feeling great," Murray said. "Excited to get out [to training camp] and get things going."

Huddle Up: Murray is coming off a career year in which he finished 8th among all fantasy RBs with 207 points (1,121 rushing yards, 350 receiving, 10 total TDs) but he's missed 6 starts over the past 2 seasons and has an injury history dating back to his days at Oklahoma. That's the big ? keeping him from being a no-doubt elite fantasy RB this summer.
