New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley was a healthy scratch for the Week 13 game against the Houston Texans, and he is at a crossroads with the team. Beat writer Mike Reiss says if Ridley isn't active against a two-win Houston team, there is little reason to believe, outside of an injury to another player, that Ridley will be a major factor down the stretch and into the playoffs.

Huddle Up: This is brutal timing for owners who have ridden Ridley to a playoff berth. The Patriots backfield is not trustworthy outside Shane vereen.

New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels still has confidence in RB Stevan Ridley. 'I have great confidence in Stevan [Ridley] as a runner ... at the same time, ball security is the most important factor,' McDaniels said.

Huddle Up: Ridley has lost 4 fumbles this season -- 1 in each of the last 2 games. The latest one, a first-quarter turnover in Week 12, was returned for a TD by the Broncos and resulted in the RB's benching for the rest of the night. He remains New England's top back from a pure pure running standpoint, but opponents are going to test his ball security whenever they get the chance. Bottom line: Ridley is going to be awfully hard to trust as a fantasy starter as he's always a bobble away from heading to the bench.

New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley fumbled on the team's second drive in the Week 11 game against the Carolina Panthers Monday, Nov. 18. He was kept on the sideline for 18 snaps before he was finally sent back into the game and wound up scoring on a 1-yard fourth-quarter run. He finished with 13 carries for 48 yards.

Huddle Up: After losing his NFL-leading third fumble, the rest of Ridley's night seemed to be in doubt, but much to the relief of his fantasy owners, he was allowed back out of the doghouse and delivered a TD -- scoring for the fifth straight game. Ridley's fantasy value has dipped with Shane Vereen's return and LeGarrette Blount's continued presence, but he still appears to be the Pats' preferred starting and goal-line back.

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick did not bench RB Stevan Ridley after his fumble to open the second half in the team's Week 9 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers like he had earlier in the year. 'I thought Stevan did a good job,' Belichick said. 'It was really a tremendous play by (Troy) Polamalu. He did a great job. Stevan caught the ball with his back to the defender. As he turned, Troy came in there and instead of making a tackle he was able to dislodge the ball. He anticipated Ridley turning up and Troy made a good play on it. I don't think Stevan really had much of a chance to do anything but turn. Sometimes turnovers are a result of real good defensive plays.' Ridley ran for 60 more yards in the half and went over 100 yards rushing for the first time this year.

Huddle Up: Good news for Ridley owners as many were certain the fumble would curtail his touches and spoil his recent run of success which includes 340 rushing yards and 6 TDs over the past 4 games.

New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley (knee) is expected to play in the team's Week 6 game.

Huddle Up: So Ridley will return after missing a game, but that only makes the Pats' fantasy RB outlook even more muddled than usual. Go with a safer option if you have one.

Posted: 10/10/2013 8:37pm et

New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley (knee) was limited during practice Thursday, Oct. 10.

Huddle Up: Ridley, who sat out Week 5, has been limited in each of the past 2 days, but then again, so is just about anyone who matters on the squad. See if the outlook changes Friday, but our money is on "limited" again.

Posted: 10/4/2013 6:18pm et

New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley (knee) has been ruled out for Week 5.

Huddle Up: As expected, Ridley won't play after sitting out practice all week. With Brandon Bolden (knee) and Leon Washington (thigh) both listed as questionable after being limited all week in practice, the biggest fantasy beneficiary by process of elimination is LeGarrette Blount, the only truly healthy back the Pats have entering the weekend.

New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley is out of practice Friday, Oct. 4.

Huddle Up: It doesn't look good for Ridley making it to the field this weekend. With Branden Bolden also nicked up, LeGarrette Blount could be the Patriots' primary ballcarrier in Week 5.

Posted: 10/3/2013 1:20pm et

New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley (knee) is out of practice again Thursday, Oct. 3.

Huddle Up: That's 2 missed workouts in 2 days now for Ridley, so his fantasy owners need to start planning accordingly. Meanwhile, Brandon Bolden and LeGarrette Blount could creep into flex options -- especially in larger leagues -- if Ridley is out.

Posted: 10/2/2013 8:42pm et

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley (knee) did not practice Wednesday, Oct. 2, due to a knee ailment.

Huddle Up: We'll have to wait for more news on Ridley's injury later in the week. If he can't go against the Bengals, LeGarrette Blount and Brandon Bolden would see an increase in touches against the Bengals with neither player being an attractive fantasy option.

Posted: 10/2/2013 2:21pm et

New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley (undisclosed) is not participating in practice Wednesday, Oct. 2.

Huddle Up: This could just be a planned day off, or Ridley could have been excused for personal reasons.

Posted: 9/10/2013 6:50pm et

The New England Patriots are expected to lean heavily on RB Stevan Ridley without RB Shane Vereen (wrist) in Week 2 against the New York Jets Thursday, Sept. 12. RBs Brandon Bolden is banged up, Leon Washington is new to the team and RB LeGarrette Blount did very little with only seven carries in Week 1. Following each of the games that Ridley fumbled last year, he averaged 17.75 carries per game the following game.

Huddle Up: Ridley's fantasy owners got a bit of a reprieve with Vereen's wrist injury, and they can expect to have a more-focused RB available to start this week against the Jets.

Posted: 9/9/2013 6:19pm et

New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels indicated the team has not decided what RB Stevan Ridley's role will be after he fumbled Week 1. "Stevan's got to do a better job of holding on to the football," McDaniels said. "He knows that. And we'll work hard with him on that."

Huddle Up: With Shane Vereen out at least four weeks, what are the Patriots going to do? Give LeGarrette Blount 25 carries? (Don't answer that, Bill Belichick, just give Ridley his role back.)

Posted: 9/9/2013 10:25am et

New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley fumbled in the second quarter of the Week 1 game against the Buffalo Bills, and he was benched for the balance of the game. He also fumbled in the first quarter. RB Shane Vereen stepped in and shined in Ridley's absence.

Huddle Up: LeGarrette Blount also received carries following Ridley's second fumble. We'll see how long Ridley remains in Bill Belichick's doghouse, but the presence of Blount and Vereen's strong showing certainly dings Ridley's prospects.

Posted: 6/4/2013 11:51pm et

New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley (hamstring), TE Jake Ballard (ankle) and CB Alfonzo Dennard (shoulder) were injured during OTA practice Tuesday, June 4. Ridley pulled up with a right hamstring injury. Ballard hurt his left ankle attempting to make a catch. Both sat out and watched the day's remaining workouts, but a source said both escaped serious injury. Dennard, meanwhile, was carted off after hurting his left shoulder during team drills.

Huddle Up: Minor or major injuries, the offseason ailments continue to add up for the Patriots. The good news is there's still 3 months until the games start counting in the standings, leaving ample time for rest and rehab.

Posted: 5/3/2013 9:50am et

New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley said he is completely recovered from the concussion he suffered during the playoffs.

Huddle Up: Good news for Ridley, as the league has become cautious with concussions and you never know for certain how long it will be before a player is cleared. Ridley should resume his lead role in the Patriots' RBBC.
