Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said Tuesday, Aug. 27, that RB Roy Helu has secured the primary backup job behind RB Alfred Morris.

Huddle Up: This is unsurprising given Helu's fantastic preseason. The question is, how much work will he get as the No. 2? Mike Shanahan is known for riding his lead backs through the years. Unless Morris gets injured, Helu's fantasy value is limited.

Washington Redskins RB Roy Helu has been performing well in pass protection drills during training camp. Helu is looking to win the third-down running back role this season.

Huddle Up: Can Helu finally gain some traction in Washington D.C.? He would have some PPR value if he winds up being the third-down back. If Mike Shanahan decides he is performing better than Alfred Morris, Helu would be in excellent shape to put up big numbers. That's a bit of a stretch at this point, but watch out for him as the preseason progresses.

Washington Redskins RB Roy Helu (knee, toe) was making cuts near the end of OTAs. He's expected to be completely healthy entering the season.

Huddle Up: With Alfred Morris unexpected fantasy-stud emergence in 2012, the injured Helu was all but forgotten in D.C. Still, Helu did have 49 catches and 1,019 yards from scrimmage in only 5 starts in 2011, so he should rank as the clear the Morris handcuff until proven otherwise.

Washington Redskins RB Roy Helu could serve as the third down, short yardage back behind RB in 2013. Helu is familiar with the pistol offense, running it regularly when he played at Nebraska.

Huddle Up: It's easy to forget about Helu, who missed most of last season with an injury and subsequently lost touches to Alfred Morris. While Morris is still the go-to guy in Washington for now, Mike Shanahan has been known to shuffle his backfield on occasion so Helu is an intriguing handcuff and/or deep sleeper fantasy play.

Washington Redskins RB Roy Helu said he expects to be ready for the start of training camp.

Huddle Up: At this juncture Helu is more Alfred Morris insurance than anything else, but Mike Shanahan has a reputation for changing his running backs more frequently than most people typically change their underwear so it's worth keeping an eye on his status.
