Washington Redskins RB Roy Helu Jr. is seen as a better pass catcher than RB Evan Royster by some of the coaches, which should help his chance to make the final roster.

Huddle Up: The battle isn't just for a roster spot, it's for a complementary role as the pass-catching back in Jay Gruden's offense. Alfred Morris hasn't demonstrated that skill set, so if Helu can secure third-down work he could wind up with enough touches to be a factor in larger PPR leagues.

Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said Tuesday, Aug. 27, that RB Roy Helu has secured the primary backup job behind RB Alfred Morris.

Huddle Up: This is unsurprising given Helu's fantastic preseason. The question is, how much work will he get as the No. 2? Mike Shanahan is known for riding his lead backs through the years. Unless Morris gets injured, Helu's fantasy value is limited.

Washington Redskins RB Roy Helu has been performing well in pass protection drills during training camp. Helu is looking to win the third-down running back role this season.

Huddle Up: Can Helu finally gain some traction in Washington D.C.? He would have some PPR value if he winds up being the third-down back. If Mike Shanahan decides he is performing better than Alfred Morris, Helu would be in excellent shape to put up big numbers. That's a bit of a stretch at this point, but watch out for him as the preseason progresses.
