Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (hamstring) will be on the field for around 15 offense snaps during the third preseason game Friday, Aug. 22, according to head coach Gus Bradley.

Huddle Up: Despite his injury issues of late, Shorts is still the clear fantasy choice for those looking to secure the Jags' No. 1 WR, and he currently owns a 12th-round ADP (118) in 10-team leagues.

  • Posted: 8/18/2014 9:42am ET

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (hamstring) is expected to start in the third preseason game unless he suffers a setback during practice this week, according to head coach Gus Bradley.

Huddle Up: Shorts has missed time this preseason with a hamstring injury, which isn't the way you want to begin a contract year push. He could see time with Blake Bortles, who is expected to work with the first team for at least a quarter in the upcoming preseason game.

  • Posted: 8/15/2014 3:54pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (hamstring) and LB Dekoda Watson (groin) are expected to practice on a limited basis Sunday, Aug. 17, and they should both see some repetitions in the preseason game against the Detroit Lions next Friday. Watson will be activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list sometime before Sunday.

Huddle Up: Shorts is still being counted on as the Jags' No. 1 WR, and he could certainly use the next few weeks to get into regular-season game form after an injury-filled 2013 season and 2014 camp.

  • Posted: 8/14/2014 7:08pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars LB Paul Posluszny (biceps), WRs Cecil Shorts (hamstring), Allen Robinson (hamstring), Tandon Doss (ankle), Lamaar Thomas (head), CB Deion Belue (back), LB Dekoda Watson (groin) and TE Clay Harbor (calf) did not travel with the team to Chicago and will not play in tonight's preseason game against the Chicago Bears.

Huddle Up: Shorts' follow-up to his injury-hampered 2013 season isn't off to a strong start as the Jags' top wideout has now missed the team's first two preseason tilts and a good deal of camp. Be adjusting your draft board accordingly until we get better news.

  • Posted: 8/9/2014 2:56pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (hamstring) said he is ahead of schedule in his rehab from a hamstring injury but does not have a clear timetable for his return. Shorts said has been able to do some running and is feeling good. He is not expected to play in the second preseason game.

Huddle Up: Shorts has been out for over two weeks with the hamstring injury and it's something that could linger into the season. Shorts currently has an ADP of Round 11 but rookie Marquise Lee is probably a better bet to be Jacksonville's top fantasy WR this year. Lee has an ADP of Round 14.

  • Posted: 8/8/2014 3:58pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (hamstring) needs work before the start of the season, according to receivers coach Jerry Sullivan. 'I don't care if you play 10 years, you still need work,' Sullivan said. 'I don't care who you are or how long you've played. Because you've been there, it helps you, but it's not the same.'

Huddle Up: Shorts was in and out of the lineup last season, playing with varying effectiveness, and given the off-field issues and inexperience of the remainder of the Jags' WR corps, Shorts has the opportunity to establish himself as the Jags' unquestioned top target and a late-round fantasy sleeper if he can get back on the field and stay healthy.

  • Posted: 7/26/2014 1:08pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts has plenty of company, but general manager Dave Caldwell indicated Shorts is a big part of the plan going forward. The team drafted WRs Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson, but Caldwell said it 'was to compliment Cecil, not replace him.'

Huddle Up: A little Shorts news if you own him in a dynasty league. Shorts is in the final season of his contract, but it sounds like the Jaguars view him as part of the solution once Blake Bortles is at quarterback. The question, of course, is are they holding a spot for Justin Blackmon as well?

  • Posted: 6/29/2014 2:21pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts could get a contract extension before the beginning of the season, although it is probably more reasonable to think Shorts could agree to a new deal in the first part of the season.

Huddle Up: Injuries limited Shorts to 11.8 yards per catch and only 3 scoring receptions last season, and expect the Jags to wait and confirm that's all in the rear-view mirror before committing to an extension.

  • Posted: 5/14/2014 12:01am ET

Jacksonville Jaguars general manager David Caldwell said the team wants to keep WR Cecil Shorts long term, and have had discussions about a new deal.

Huddle Up: While the J'ville future of troubled fellow wideout Justin Blackmon is anything but certain, there are no such concerns about Shorts, whose focus this offseason is getting healthy after groin and shoulder injuries limited him to 13 games and a career-low 11.8 yards-per-catch average.

  • Posted: 4/24/2014 7:32pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (groin) is still not quite a full strength, but said he expects to be soon. 'I'm on the right path where I'm able to run without any pain,' Shorts said. 'I still have some work to do and I'm not 100 percent yet, but I'm looking to get there soon. Now, I have to get my strength back and confidence back." Head coach Gus Bradley said Shorts' rehab has gone well, and the receiver is leaner and in great shape.

Huddle Up: Despite missing the final 3 games of the year, Shorts had a career-high 66 receptions this past season but wasn't nearly as explosive, seeing his yards-per-catch average drop a full 6 yards from 17.8 to 11.8. At this moment -- and with Justin Blackmon's issues -- Shorts is in line to the be the Jags' No. 1 WR if healthy, but that could change with the upcoming draft.

  • Posted: 2/5/2014 11:00pm ET

The Jacksonville Jaguars may wait to sign WR Cecil Shorts to a contract extension to see if he will be able to stay healthy for an entire season. Shorts has missed 11 games in his first three seasons. Shorts is entering the final year of his current contract.

Huddle Up: The risk, of course, is that Shorts does stay healthy and puts up big numbers that drive up his value heading into free agency. And Shorts' ability to do that depends on who plays quarterback for the Jaguars this season.

  • Posted: 12/17/2013 5:07pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (shoulder, groin) will be placed on Injured Reserve on Tuesday, Dec. 17.

Huddle Up: Shorts has played through pain for most of the season, and now that things were only getting worse, the Jags are shutting down their leading pass-catcher. Look for rookie Ace Sanders and/or Mike Brown to step into the void, but neither is a particularly attractive fantasy option.

  • Posted: 12/12/2013 4:52pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (groin) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 12.

Huddle Up: Shorts' groin issue has been troubling him for a few weeks, but it seems to getting worse not better. See if he can get on the field Friday, but it looks like it's headed toward a game-time decision.

  • Posted: 12/6/2013 12:45am ET

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts caught 2 passes for 13 yards and a TD on Thursday, Dec. 5 in a 27-20 win over the Houston Texans.

Huddle Up: Shorts hit season lows for catches and yards for a game he finished, but did salvage some fantasy face with a 6-yard TD catch early in the second quarter. He was targeted 6 times, but Chad Henne was either under pressure or ineffective most of the night, limiting the opportunities for the Jags' pass-catchers.

  • Posted: 12/2/2013 11:17pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (groin) was limited in practice Monday, Dec. 2.

Huddle Up: This is nothing new with Shorts, who's dealt with AC joint and groin injuries for more than 2 months now but has yet to miss a game. He's been targeted 11 times in each of his last 2 games and has had 14 catches for 135 yards and a TD.

  • Posted: 10/25/2013 9:17am ET

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (shoulder) practiced Friday, Oct. 25, and he's probable for Week 8.

Huddle Up: Shorts has indicated he is playing through pain, but he did so last week so it's no surprise he's expecting to do so again this week.

  • Posted: 10/23/2013 2:36pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (shoulder) did not practice Wednesday, Oct. 23, but he will play against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 8. He leads the team with 39 catches and 491 yards this season.

Huddle Up: It's tough to rely on Shorts for production with his injury, but he could get loose for a couple of deep plays.

  • Posted: 10/23/2013 10:41am ET

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (shoulder) said he has a lot of pain in his shoulder, but it's better than it was last week. He intends to play in Week 8.

Huddle Up: Shorts has been a solid passing game option for the Jaguars, but the combination of his shoulder injury, Blaine Gabbert's return and Justin Blackmon reasserting himself as Jacksonville's WR1 Shorts' fantasy value is bound to take a hit.

  • Posted: 10/18/2013 1:57pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (shoulder) said he is planning on playing in the team's Week 7 game. Shorts said the plan is to deal with the pain.

Huddle Up: Shorts could very well play but the question is how effective will he be, especially if he takes another hit on the shoulder. Weigh the risk and examine all your options before making the final call on Shorts.

  • Posted: 10/17/2013 12:02am ET

Updating a previous report, Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (shoulder) said Wednesday, Oct. 16, he is still in a lot of pain, but is hopeful of playing in the Week 7 game against the San Diego Chargers.

Huddle Up: Shorts is still highly questionable and if he does play he'll be limited. Shorts is a risky play Sunday even with a good match-up against San Diego, especially with Justin Blackmon eating up double-digit targets every week now.

  • Posted: 10/16/2013 7:37pm ET

Updating a previous report, Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (shoulder) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 16.

Huddle Up: Shorts is in serious danger of missing Sunday's game which means Justin Blackmon - who saw 20 targets last week - is in line for another busy afternoon against San Diego.

  • Posted: 10/14/2013 2:04pm ET

Updating a previous report, Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (shoulder) said his goal is to play in the team's Week 7 game. 'I'm going to do what I can, we'll see what happens. My goal is to get out there and play this week.'

Huddle Up: It's great to see he is hopeful for this week, but how much can you trust him with a broken rib? Keep an eye on his injury status, but don't count on much from him until he is cleared and healed.

  • Posted: 10/14/2013 11:57am ET

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts said he has an AC joint injury under his clavicle, but he wouldn't elaborate on how serious it is.

Huddle Up: Doesn't sound good for Shorts, who has been bumped to second fiddle in the Jacksonville passing game with the return of Justin Blackmon.

  • Posted: 10/14/2013 12:48am ET

Updating a previous report, the Jacksonville Jaguars are fearful WR Cecil Shorts (shoulder) could have a fractured rib closer to the sternum. Shorts was tender in the area following the Week 6 loss against the Denver Broncos. Shorts might have a CT scan Monday, Oct. 14.

Huddle Up: It sounds like he would be knocked out for a while if this is the case. Keep an eye on his situation this week.

  • Posted: 10/11/2013 3:23pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (groin) practiced Friday, Oct. 11, and will play in Week 6 against the Denver Broncos. He leads the team with 31 catches this year.

Huddle Up: Shorts has been limited this week but if you own him he has to be in your lineup. The Jaguars are going to have to throw the ball a ton against the Broncos, so Shorts will see plenty of targets when Jacksonville falls behind.

  • Posted: 10/4/2013 5:58pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (groin) did not participate in practice Friday, Oct. 4, and is questionable for Week 5.

Huddle Up: Shorts hasn't practiced all week, and while Jags coach Gus Bradley thinks the the team's leading pass-catcher will play, it has the makings of a game-time decision.

  • Posted: 10/3/2013 7:56pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (groin) did not practice Thursday, Oct. 3.

Huddle Up: Seeing the Jags' leading receiver miss a second straight practice has his fantasy owners concerned, but the Jags insist the injury is minor and that Shorts will play Sunday.

  • Posted: 10/2/2013 4:36pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (groin) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 2, with what is being called a minor groin injury.

Huddle Up: Hopefully this is minor and won't affect his playing status this week. Shorts has a nice matchup against the Rams. Keep an eye on his injury situation.

  • Posted: 9/11/2013 6:51pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts' (groin) injury is not believed to be serious, and head coach Gus Smith thinks he'll be able to play in Week 2 against the Oakland Raiders.

Huddle Up: That's good news, especially given the nice matchup he has this week against the Raiders. Shorts was targeted plenty last week, but had little to show for it thanks to good coverage from Brandon Flowers and bad quarterbacking from Blaine Gabbert. Things should improve for him with Chad Henne at the helm.
