San Francisco 49ers RB Kendall Hunter (Achilles') is ahead of schedule in his recovery, and he has resumed running, according to a source close to the player. Hunter is expected to be ready for the start of training camp.
Huddle Up: Hunter as been a solid No. 2 man in back of starter Frank Gore over the past 2 seasons, but his 2012 injury opened the door for LaMichael James, and Hunter likely is going to have to beat out the second-year RB to get his job back.

San Francisco 49ers RB Kendall Hunter (Achilles'), WR Kyle Williams (knee) and DE Justin Smith (triceps) are expected to be ready for the start of training camp.
Huddle Up: Hunter averaged 5.2 yards per carry as the No. 2 man behind Frank Gore, but rookie LaMichael James flashed his ability following Hunter's injury, and that's going to make for an interesting battle for the No. 2 job come camp time.

San Francisco 49ers RB Kendall Hunter got out of his walking boot Wednesday, Jan. 23. There was no timetable for medical clearance.
Huddle Up: Hunter's 2012 season ended prematurely due to an Achilles' tendon injury. He was a solid complement to Frank Gore before suffering the injury, and if he's able to return to health by the beginning of training camp he should find himself in a similar position in 2013.

San Francisco 49ers RB Kendall Hunter (ankle) will miss the rest of
the season with a left ankle injury that he suffered in Week 12, and
he was placed on the injured-reserve list Tuesday. RBs LaMichael
James and Brandon Jacobs will be asked to increase their roles as a
result. James has yet to be active for a game this year.
Huddle Up: Tough luck for the Niners and Hunter's fantasy owners as the RB has
provided a productive change of pace in spelling starter Frank Gore.
Jacobs and James will be popular pickups, but don't forget about
Anthony Dixon who has been running No. 3 on the depth chart ahead of
both players.

San Francisco 49ers RB LaMichael James could be activated after RB Kendall Hunter (ankle) suffered an ankle injury in Week 12.
Huddle Up: It's still not known how serious Hunter's ankle injury is, but even if he's out a game or two, the Niners still have a solid trio of RBs ahead of James in starter Frank Gore, and reserves Anthony Dixon and Brandon Jacobs. James, however, could sneak in a few third-down snaps and could see kick- and punt-return work with WR Kyle Williams lost for the season with an ACL tear.

San Francisco 49ers RB Kendall Hunter (ankle) left late in the third quarter of the
Week 12 game against the New Orleans Saints due to an ankle injury and did not
return.
Huddle Up: Hunter, who has been very effective in spelling hard-running starter Frank Gore,
finished with 28 yards on 4 rushes in the contest before being carted into the
lockerroom. The Niners do have depth at the position with Anthony Dixon and
Brandon Jacobs, but Hunter's status will need to be followed during the week.

San Francisco 49ers RB Kendall Hunter is expected to serve as the kickoff return
man in Week 2 against the Detroit Lions.
Huddle Up: Hunter logged the lone kickoff return in Week 1 for the 49ers, bringing it back 31
yards. He also effectively spelled starting RB Frank Gore, picking up 41 yards on 9
carries.
