The New York Jets are expected to use RB Bilal Powell as the featured back the next two weeks while they bring RB Chris Ivory and suspended RB Mike Goodson are brought back slowly. Running back coach Anthony Lynn said Powell can be used in most situations. "He's always had a skill set that can cover - between the tackles, outside the tackles, receiving skills, blocking skills. He has a complete skill set, and that allows him to stay on the field. Even if he's not the feature back he would be on the field a lot," Lynn said. Powell said he entered the season more prepared which has allowed him to play faster and be more comfortable.

Huddle Up: The gig Powell inherits allowed Shonn Greene to record top-15 fantasy RB numbers last year, so for the short term at least he'll be a significant fantasy contributor. And since Ivory can't stay healthy and Goodson can't stay out of trouble, Powell's long-term prospects aren't bad, either.

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (illness, shoulder) returned to practice Thursday, Sept. 19.

Huddle Up: No concerns here as Powell looks to be all right after missing Wednesday.

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell played 47 snaps, and RB Chris Ivory played 24 in Week 1.

Huddle Up: There's fantasy benefit to the Jets' running back job, but it has to be housed under one back--preferably the more talented Ivory. So long as it's a split, neither can be banked on for consistent fantasy help.

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell is in need of a strong training camp and preseason to stick around, as the team brought in RBs Chris Ivory and Mike Goodson during the offseason. Powell and RB Joe McKnight are fighting for jobs, and McKnight has value due to his skills as a kick returner. Powell's value increases if Goodson is suspended for his recent arrest.

Huddle Up: Powell made 2 starts and finished with 577 total yards and 4 TDs in 14 games last season. But that was then, and this is 2013 when the Jets have added to the RB corps and Goodson and most definitely Ivory deserve a higher billing on draft boards. Powell is duelling McKnight for the No. 3 slot on that list.

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell saw work on the third-down package in the first day of minicamp Tuesday, June 11. He is expected to battle RB Mike Goodson for the third-down job.

Huddle Up: With projected starter Chris Ivory owning all of 3 receptions in 3 NFL seasons, the Jets most definitely are in need of a 3rd-down back. Powell had 577 yards from scrimmage on 127 touches in 2012, and could get a leg up in the position battle if the legal or injury issues continue to resurface for Goodson.
