Cleveland Browns RB Brandon Jackson is now the team's primary backup to RB Trent Richardson after the loss of both RBs Montario Hardesty (knee) and Dion Lewis (fibula) to the season-ending Injured Reserve list. 'Brandon is a reliable guy,' head coach Rob Chudzinski said Tuesday, Aug. 27. 'I have no issues with Brandon. Trent will be the guy we're counting on in a lot of different ways. We have to do a good job of keeping him fresh throughout the course of the season.'

Huddle Up: Jackson did start 13 games in 2010 with the Packers, totalling 1,045 yards and 4 TDs, and Richardson owners in deeper leagues should have him on their late-round draft radar.

The Cleveland Browns are likely to place RB Dion Lewis on the season-ending Injured Reserve list due to his fractured left fibula, according to head coach Rob Chudzinski.

Huddle Up: There was some hope that Lewis -- who was on his way to securing the team's No. 2 RB role -- would be able to return later in the season, but it looks like Brandon Jackson will start the season as the change-up back to starter Trent Richardson.

Cleveland Browns chief executive officer Joe Banner said RB Dion Lewis (leg) is undergoing surgery Monday, Aug. 19, to repair his fractured fibula. Banner said the team will not know if Lewis can play again this season until after the surgery.

Huddle Up: Such a shame for a guy who looked so good as Trent Richardson's backup.

Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski said RB Dion Lewis (leg) will need surgery to repair the fractured fibula he suffered in the second preseason game.

Huddle Up: The Browns haven't said as much, but it sounds as if the team's No. 2 RB is done for the season.

The Cleveland Browns are trying to determine if the leg fracture suffered by RB Dion Lewis is a season ending injury or if Lewis is a candidate for short-term injured reserve that will keep him out of the lineup for eight weeks.

Huddle Up: Lewis was having a great camp and looked to be in line for change-of-pace work in Cleveland; now it appears as if Montario Hardesty will stick around for at least a little bit longer.

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski said RB Dion Lewis suffered a fractured fibula during the team's preseason game Thursday, Aug. 15.

Huddle Up: The Browns' reserve RB situation in back of starter Trent Richardson has went to hell in a handbasket over the past few days as Montario Hardesty (arthroscopic knee surgery) and now Lewis have gone down. Could a free-agent signing or 2 be in the team's immediate future?

Posted: 8/15/2013 10:16pm et

Cleveland Browns RB Dion Lewis (ankle) was carted off the field after suffering a left ankle injury during the team's preseason game Thursday, Aug. 15.

Huddle Up: If Lewis, the Browns' No. 2 RB, is hurt seriously and misses much time, it'll leave the team paper thin at RB with fellow back Montario Hardesty undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery.

Posted: 8/8/2013 5:35pm et

Cleveland Browns RB Dion Lewis could compete with RB Montario Hardesty for the No. 2 running back job if he is able to hold onto the football and show he can pass protect despite his small size.

Huddle Up: Whoever wins this job won't be much of a threat to Trent Richardson, but it would be worth noting for handcuff purposes. Hardesty has been disappointing over the years, while Lewis has some youthful upside.

Cleveland Browns RB Dion Lewis has started working with the second-team offense, and he has turned heads with his speed, moves and catching ability. Lewis has been seeing more work with RB Montario Hardesty sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Huddle Up: Lewis has almost seemed destined for the No. 2 job behind Trent Richardson from the moment he signed, and Hardesty is going to have a tough time making up ground.

The Cleveland Browns feel confident RB Dion Lewis and WR Travis Benjamin can handle kick return duties, which is why fan favorite WR Joshua Cribbs was allowed to leave via free agency without much effort to re-sign him. Plus, Cribbs is 30, and there are concerns about his knee. The Browns like the speed of Lewis, especially as a third-down back.

Huddle Up: Cribbs was a special teams mainstay in Cleveland, but between his age and his knee and the new regime the Browns have opted to go a different direction. If Lewis sees the field as a third-down back as well as a returner he could bring a little something to the fantasy table in leagues where his kick return stats count.
