Carolina Panthers LB Luke Kuechly has been named the 2012 Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Huddle Up: There were several viable candidates for this award, but Kuechly led all rookies in tackles and passes defended which was enough to sway the voters.

Carolina Panthers LB Luke Kuechly has performed well in pass coverage so far during training camp. Some believed it would take Kuechly some time before making an impact in that area.
Huddle Up: Make no doubt: There are are big expectations for Kuechly, the ninth-overall pick in the draft. He finished his Boston College career with an ACC-record 532 tackles and is expected to start at weak-side linebacker for Carolina. Quickly adapting to pass coverage is a key step for any rookie entering the aerially-oriented league, and it looks like Kuechly is on an early track to have an impact first season.
