Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill's fifth-year option will be picked up if the team is not able to sign him to a contract extension over the next six weeks, according to sources. Tannehill would make $16 million in 2016 if his option is picked up. It is believed the Dolphins have talked about signing Tannehill to a six-year deal worth more than $100 million.

Huddle Up: The Dolphins have options with regards to keeping Tannehill in Miami, and the option year gives them additional time to negotiate a long-term deal as well. Now look for the Dolphins to add some weapons to Tannehill's arsenal.

Miami Dolphins general manager Dennis Hickey had praise for QB Ryan Tannehill, saying the team is 'excited' about his progress to date. "We are excited about [Tannehill's] future as a Dolphin. ... We saw a lot of progress [in 2014]," Hickey said.

Huddle Up: Even though the Dolphins have essentially remained a .500 team, Tannehill has shown steady improvement in each of his three seasons, hitting career highs across the board this year and Hickey has a right to be excited given some of the QB issues faced by some of the league's other teams, including two in their own division.

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill threw for 259 yards in Week 17 versus the New York Jets, giving him 4,045 for the season. Only QB Dan Marino has thrown for 4,000 yards or more as a member of the Dolphins. Tannehill finished with 27 touchdown passes and 13 interceptions in his third NFL season.

Huddle Up: Tannehill continues to improve, and while it was a process he eventually took to Miami's new offense--with obvious results. He likely won't open next season with five completely new offensive linemen, Jarvis Landry will have a year of experience under his belt... there's much to like about the Dolphins' offensive situation going forward.

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill was 26-of-34 for 240 yards and 2 TDs Thursday, Nov. 13 in a 22-9 win over the visiting Buffalo Bills.

Huddle Up: Tannehill was on target all night, completing mainly short passes, and connected with WRs Brandon Gibson and Jarvis Landry on scoring tosses to post his sixth multi-TD passing game of the season and his fifth in the last 7 games. He's definitely a QB to consider for spot starts down the fantasy stretch.

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (ankle, shoulder) was limited in practice Wednesday, Nov. 12, and is probable for Week 11 against the Buffalo Bills.

Huddle Up: Tannehill has been playing well but he's a little banged up and has a tough match-up against the Bills. Tannehill is more of a QB2 this week but isn't an awful start if you need him.

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill is making an emphasis on improving his footwork during practice this week. He went through individual and position drills Wednesday, Sept. 24, concentrating on footwork to improve his accuracy. He has a career-low 56.5 completion percentage. Tannehill and head coach Joe Philbin met this week to get clarity on the starting quarterback situation, and Philbin reassured Tannehill that he is the starter for Week 4 against the Oakland Raiders, even though publicly the coach has not backed his quarterback in public.

Huddle Up: Tannehill is shifting from the high-percentage WCO to the faster-paced Eagles-like offense, so it's no surprise his completion percentage is dropping. This season might be a work in progress with Tannehill in the new offense behind a rebuilt offensive line, but if the Dolphins can be patient there could very well be a Nick Foles-like payoff down the road.

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill said he will be the starting quarterback in Week 4 even though head coach Joe Philbin is still not ready to name the starter.

Huddle Up: Tannehill is almost sure to start in London, but the clear message here is that the QB is on a short leash and another lackluster performance will likely lead to a change under center during Miami's Week 5 bye.

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill is scheduled to start this weekend in London against the Oakland Raiders, despite head coach Joe Philbin repeatedly not committing to Tannehill as the starter. 'At the end of the week, we're going to pick the 46 guys that give us the best chance to win the game in London,' Philbin said Tuesday, Sept. 23.

Huddle Up: With two interceptions, Tannehill isn't making killer mistakes. Rather it's the plays he isn't making --missing open receivers, converting in key situations -- that are frustrating the Dolphins and fantasy owners. It's netted only 624 passing yards, 18 rushing yards and 49 fantasy points, and continued struggles against the winless Raiders could certainly lead to a change in the team's QB thinking during the following bye week.

The Miami Dolphins have tweaked QB Ryan Tannehill's footwork during training camp in order to improve his accuracy, according to offensive coordinator Bill Lazor. 'We just taught him how we want it to be. We explained it to him,' Lazor said. 'We gave him some drills on how to get it. And he worked his butt off, he's working his butt off to get it right.'

Huddle Up: Lazor worked wonders with Nick Foles in Philly last year, so if he's having the same impact on Tannehill that bodes well for his fantasy prospects.

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill has thrown three interceptions in practice each of the last two days.

Huddle Up: Obviously not ideal for Tannehill, but he's adjusting to a new tempo under a new offensive coordinator so there are bound to be growing pains. If the Dolphins can cobble together a line to keep Tannehill upright and he's able to power through the growing pains, there is a ton of upside to Miami's new-look passing game this season.
