The Kansas City Star reports Chiefs TE Tony Gonzalez said he plans to return to the team next season, as long as the team is not going to rebuild. "As far as I know, I'll be a Chief next year," Gonzalez said. "Depending on what Clark (Hunt) wants to do, if he wants to blow this whole thing up and bring in a new coaching staff and bring in a new coordinator with that and bring in a new quarterback in the draft, that all weighs into whether or not I want to be a Chief next year. As far as I'm concerned, as a veteran on this team going into my 13th year next year, the last thing I want to hear is 'rebuild.' I'm not into it. If they come in here and they want to blow it all up, I'll be frustrated and I'll be a little (ticked) off."
The Huddle Take: Wait... Gonzo wants to stay in KC but doesn't want them to rebuild? He wants them to trot out the same guys that won two games last year? Gonzalez proved this year he can still play, and you'd think a trade that sent Gonzo to a contender for a couple of picks the Chiefs could use to... um... 'reload' would be a win-win-win situation. Kansas City's new GM can certainly expect to hear some offers for his Hall of Fame tight end prior to draft day.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports the San Diego Chargers have yielded 49 passes for 612 yards and six touchdowns to opposing tight ends this season. The Chargers play the Kansas City Chiefs and TE Tony Gonzalez in Week 10.
The Huddle Take: Gonzalez remains an elite tight end despite his struggles with the Chiefs offense this season. If you have him on your fantasy roster it appears that the future Hall of Famer could have the stars aligned for him in Week 10 against a weak San Diego pass defense.

The Associated Press reports Kansas City Chiefs TE Tony Gonzalez said he is not bitter that the team failed to trade him to a contending team before the trade deadline. However, he admitted that he felt somewhat betrayed that the Chiefs did not make a deal.
The Huddle Take: Betrayed... but not bitter. Sounds like everything is hunky-dory in Kansas City. With the Chiefs in full-on rebuilding mode, it wouldn't be at all surprising to see the tight end moved well before the end of the five-year contract extension he signed in January of 2007.

FOXSports.com eports Kansas City Chiefs TE Tony Gonzalez is shocked that he wasn't traded at the trade deadline Tuesday, Oct. 14. "I'm shocked," Gonzalez said. "It didn't make sense not to do this deal. It's winding down for me and this team is rebuilding. If they said from the get-go, 'No, we're not going to trade you,' that would've been better than how this whole thing unfolded. But that's not what happened." The Chiefs received two offers of a fourth-round draft pick each while another two offers came in for third-round picks. Gonzalez said he was told by Chiefs president and general manager Carl Peterson that a third-round pick would be enough for the team to move him.
The Huddle Take: Now, instead of an extra third-round pick on a team that is clearly in rebuilding mode, the Chiefs have a disgruntled tight end in the twilight of his career. Gonzo's fantasy value would have received a boost had he landed with the Eagles or Giants, two of the teams rumored to be interested. As it stands, he's one of the two best pass-catchers on a bad team with a shaky quarterback situation.

The Kansas City Star reports Kansas City Chiefs head coach Herman Edwards said the team has not traded TE Tony Gonzalez, who had been on the trade block. The NFL trade deadline passed at 4 p.m. ET Tuesday, Oct. 14.
The Huddle Take: Gonzalez now reverts back to simply being a spot starter in leagues that require a tight end in the lineup. It's not because of his ability, of course. It's because he's stuck in an incredibly anemic offense.

NFL.com reports the Kansas City Chiefs have postponed their regular press conference Tuesday, Oct. 14, to 4 p.m. EST, perhaps a sign that the team is waiting to see if they can trade TE Tony Gonzalez. The team is fielding offers and asking for second- and fifth-round draft choices in return for Gonzalez. So far, teams are balking.
The Huddle Take: We're keeping an eye on this all day. If Gonzalez is dealt, he will once again become a Fantasy factor. Just don't expect that to happen immediately, since it will probably take him a week or two to acclimate himself to his new team.
Posted: 10/11/2008 9:39pm et
According to ESPN, the Kansas City Chiefs may be looking to trade veteran TE Tony Gonzalez prior to the NFL trade deadline.
The Huddle Take: Gonzalez, who has been with the Chiefs his entire career, could be traded before Tuesday which is the NFL trade deadline if the price is right. It has been rumored that three NFL teams are interested in the veteran tight end but have requested to not be announced at the present time. It would most likely take at least a second-round draft choice to get the services of Gonzalez this year. He remains a No. 1 TE option for fantasy teams this season.
Posted: 9/24/2008 10:38pm et
The NFL Network reports Kansas City Chiefs TE Tony Gonzalez was asked if he could see himself finishing his career with a different team that had the chance to go to the Super Bowl. Gonzalez said it wouldn't be the ideal scenario, but he could see himself going to Chiefs management and requesting a trade. Yeah. I definitely could, but I love being a Chief. But if it was something where it was going to take three or four years or whatever before they get this thing right, I think it would be in their best interest to maybe see what they can get and send me off, Gonzalez said. He added, But I love being a Chief and I couldn't imagine being anywhere else at this point. At the end of this season, hopefully I don't have to ask that. Hopefully we get this thing turned around. I've got a family now. I came here when I just turned 21, so this is home. That's where I'm at right now with that.
The Huddle Take: Gonzalez continues to be a nice tight end option for fantasy teams but is not the dominant scoring machine he has been in the past. With his career winding down, he is like every other aging veteran looking to win a Super Bowl before his time runs out. There appears to be a good chance he could be traded since the Chiefs are definately in a rebuilding mode that could take a few years to complete.
Posted: 9/19/2008 12:52pm et
ESPN.com reports Kansas City Chiefs TE Tony Gonzalez needs 85 more receiving yards to surpass former TE Shannon Sharpe's record for career receiving yards by a tight end.
The Huddle Take: Gonzo was Tyler Thigpen's primary target last week, so it wouldn't be at all surprising if he reached that mark this week.
Posted: 7/7/2008 7:55pm et
The Associated Press reports Kansas City Chiefs TE Tony Gonzalez saved Ken Hunter's life by using the Heimlich maneuver.
The Huddle Take: Another feather in the cap for Gonzo...though not on the field. While there is no fantasy value in this report, hero's should always receive their kudos. Way to go Tony.
