New York Giants running backs coach Jerald Ingram said he believes RB David Wilson is in position to earn the starting running back job during training camp. "I think he's grown. He has a fairly good understanding of the offense right now. He's definitely in position to be the guy, but I think just like what we've done in the past here, we're going to be a rotation type team and what certain backs do best, we'll play. I think he's a playmaker. He's definitely going to contribute and help us out. There are some goals that he has to accomplish for us. He's definitely on a better track than he was a year ago in understanding our protections and doing those kinds of things," Ingram said. Wilson has attended every offseason workout this offseason.

Huddle Up: Seeing as the Giants let Ahmad Bradshaw walk in the offseason and have only Andre Brown as a safety net, they'd better hope Wilson is ready to go.

New York Giants special teams coordinator Tom Quinn said he believes RB David Wilson can still be a kick returner this season even though he is expected to be the starting running back. "With his expanded role (in the offense), we'll see where it leads," Quinn said. "He said he'd like to do both, but it all depends on the game and his carries and what his role is in the offense."

Huddle Up: It's certainly possible for Wilson to keep some of his return duties, a la Percy Harvin, DeSean Jackson or Dez Bryant. But those are wideouts, and with Wilson expected to see 15-plus touches from scrimmage as the starting running back look for the Giants to pick their spots with him in the return game. Bottom line, if your league counts return yards and points don't bank on Wilson providing a huge contribution in that area; rather, he'll give you some bonus yards and a couple scores on an irregular basis.

New York Giants RB David Wilson has improved his pass-protection skills, according to running backs coach Jerald Ingram.

Huddle Up: With a 2-time Super Bowl MVP QB in the backfield, that's imperative for Wilson, who assumes the lead-dog role in the Giants' running game this season. Due to fumbling and pass-pro issues, Wilson was limited to 75 total touches from scrimmage in his rookie campaign a year ago, with 45 coming over the final 4 games as the rook gained more trust.

With starting RB Ahmad Bradshaw (knee, foot) ruled out for Week 15, New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin gave his vote of confidence in RB David Wilson carrying the majority of the load against the Atlanta Falcons. 'This guy has very, very good leg strength and he has got one ingredient that you look for in everybody and it's stamina. He has outstanding stamina. It appears that he can go all day long. So those are going to be assets he needs right down the stretch here,' Coughlin said.

Huddle Up: Definitely don't be hesitant to start Wilson if you swooped him up this week. The Falcons surrender the eighth-most fantasy points to opposing RBs, and the rookie figures to get plenty of touches in the key NFC game.

New York Giants RB David Wilson was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week after posting 227 kickoff return yards on four returns, including a 97-yard touchdown, in Week 14 against the New Orleans Saints.

Huddle Up: Most fantasy GMs were more interested in Brown's rushing stats (13 carries for 100 yards and 2 TDs) in Week 14, and those who took a flier on the rookie after Andre Brown's season-ending injury were handsomely rewarded. In other leagues, Wilson is the hot waiver-wire pickup this week.

New York Giants RB David Wilson sprinted 97 yards on a kickoff return for one touchown, ran for 100 yards and two more scores, and posted a team-record 327 all-purpose yards in Week 14 against the New Orleans Saints. "To come up and have a breakout game like this is an exciting feeling," Wilson said. He is the first NFL player to have 200 yards in kickoff returns and 100 yards rushing in a game.

Huddle Up: Funny how effective Wilson can be when he's not putting the ball on the ground. You have to think he's earned a job-share with Ahmad Bradshaw going forward, though another fumble will plant him back in Tom Coughlin's doghouse just as quickly as he emerged.

Posted: 11/30/2012 11:34pm et

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin pulled RB David Wilson aside for a brief conversation to make sure he understands the enormous opportunity he has in Week 13 against the Washington Redskins. Wilson will be the primary backup to RB Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) nicked up and RB Andre Brown (fibula) out for the season.

Huddle Up: At the very least, Wilson should be fresh with only 26 touches in 11 games so far this season. He's worth a flier in a flex spot if you're in a pinch, but other fantasy owners who are choosing between Wilson and similar options may be best served to wait and see how much work the rookie gets -- and what he does with it -- in his new No. 2 back role.

The New York Giants will lean on RB David Wilson to help carry the rushing load along with RB Ahmad Bradshaw following the injury to RB Andre Brown in Week 12. Bradshaw is confident Wilson will be ready. "I think he can be," Bradshaw said. "Once we get him going and get him learning a little more and different things in different areas I think he'll be a great asset to our offense."

Huddle Up: The Giants have wanted to get the speedy Wilson involved in the offense, but every time they've tried he's responded with a fumble or other miscue. The season-ending injury to Brown forces the Giants to lean on him, and there's obvious fantasy upside given his explosiveness. But the team will have to ease into trusting him with any sort of extended workload, and his next fumble might cause Tom Coughlin's head to explode.

Posted: 11/20/2012 8:06pm et

New York Giants RB David Wilson is frustrated with his lack of opportunities to prove himself this season. 'They say those statements, but I haven't been put in a situation to see if I could pick up a blitz,' Wilson said. 'So I don't know if it's from my college film or what that comes from. But I'm just waiting for my opportunity to get out there.' The coaching staff has expressed their lack of faith in Wilson's pass-blocking abilities, and ball control is also in question.

Huddle Up: This would be good only for those owners in deep leagues hoping to get something out of the rookie RB. In the meantime, Ahmad Bradshaw and Andre Brown both have had their moments shouldering the workload.

New York Giants RB David Wilson played in just two offensive plays during the team's Week 10 game against the Cincinnati Bengals, but head coach Tom Coughlin said the plan to get Wilson more playing time was negated by the game situation. The team raves about his explosive running style, but he'll have to work on a number of things before he can gain the coaching staff's trust. 'He's got to be able to do all other things besides just running the ball,' offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride said. 'It's not just running the ball when you're a running back in the National Football League. It's about catching passes, it's about blocking, it's about being able to protect the quarterback. All those things are taken into consideration when you determine whether a guy gets playing time or not.'

Huddle Up: Wilson has shown flashes this season, but he remains behind Amhad Bradshaw and Andre Brown in the Giants' RB pecking order. With only 3 touches over the past 4 games, Wilson isn't a fantasy consideration unless Bradshaw or Brown is ruled out for a game.

Posted: 10/11/2012 9:39pm et

New York Giants offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride said the team is looking to expand RB David Wilson's role in the offense as fast as possible but want to make sure he can handle what is given to him.

Huddle Up: Wilson found himself in the doghouse after a Week 1 fumble, but has since won back a lot of confidence with his strong kickoff-return work and his 40-yard TD run late in this past Sunday's win over the Browns. With No. 2 back Andre Brown suffering a concussion last week, it may open the door for the team's first-round pick to get in some work spelling Ahmad Bradshaw.

Posted: 9/12/2012 1:32pm et

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said RB David Wilson will see playing time in Week 2 after ball security was an issue for the running back in Week 1.

Huddle Up: It was a bit silly that he was benched for the entirety of the game after one fumble; Wilson is a dynamic running back that could have helped the offense. He had fumbling issues in college, though, and another one could send him into Tom Coughlin's doghouse for a longer period of time. Tread cautiously.

Posted: 9/12/2012 11:42am et

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said he likes how RB David Wilson has responded since a difficult Week 1 performance and "he is a little out of the doghouse."

Huddle Up: Wilson is out of the doghouse, but he's still on a leash and wearing one of those cones so he doesn't lick his wounds. The Giants tried to give him early work with the first offense, and it sounds like he'll get another opportunity sooner rather than later. But that leash is pretty short, and if he puts the ball on the ground again he's heading to the pound.

Posted: 9/6/2012 10:54am et

New York Giants RB David Wilson had a fumble early in the team's Week 1 game, and as a result he did not receive another offensive snap the rest of the way. Wilson was even replaced on a kickoff return.

Huddle Up: Wilson's fumble scuttled the Giants' plans to rotate him with Ahmad Bradshaw; he fumbled on his third play from scrimmage and was relegated to Tom Coughlin's doghouse for the rest of the evening. It's far too early to write off Wilson, who has a history of fumbling; the Giants were able to "cure" Tiki Barber, and you can expect them to take similar steps with Wilson. Short-term, however, until Wilson demonstrates more ball security his playing time will take a hit.

Posted: 8/20/2012 7:43pm et

New York Giants RB David Wilson got first-team reps with the team in practice Monday, Aug. 20.

Huddle Up: Starter or not, Wilson will see plenty of touches this season. Incumbent starter Ahmad Bradshaw is a proven fantasy starter, but he's not an every-down back. And now that Brandon Jacobs is gone, the first-round pick from Virginia Tech will be counted on consistently. Have him on your draft radar in the middle rounds.

Posted: 8/10/2012 12:44pm et

New York Giants rookie RB David Wilson has impressed the team during training camp and the coaching staff has liked a lot about him. Now he's tasked with doing the same during preseason games. "Practice is one thing, (a) game is another," running backs coach Jerald Ingram said. The Giants are looking for Wilson to add a boost to their running game, which averaged just 89.2 yards per game last season. Even though Wilson has been running fifth on the depth chart during training camp, he figures to be the team's No. 2 running back behind starting tailback Ahmad Bradshaw. Ingram said the team needs Wilson to be able to protect the quarterback and learn to get up the field as fast as he can to take advantage of his speed.

Huddle Up: Picking up pass protection will be key to Wilson getting on the field, but expect the Giants to give him multiple opportunities to flash his skills during the preseason. If the Giants can use Wilson without risking Eli Manning's health, he'll carve into Ahmad Bradshaw's workload.

Posted: 8/1/2012 4:22pm et

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz is impressed with RB David Wilson, noting that he is one of the most explosive players he has seen, and that he will make some big plays for the Giants this year.

Huddle Up: As of this week David Wilson is listed ahead of D.J. Ware for No. 2 on the unofficial depth chart.

Posted: 7/26/2012 12:04am et

New York Giants rookie RB David Wilson has a real chance to win the primary backup job to RB Ahmad Bradshaw. Wilson has received rave reviews during the offseason due to his speed.

Huddle Up: Wilson, the 32nd pick of the draft, is battling the veteran D.J. Ware for the backup spot. It's a fruitful job in fantasy terms because OC Kevin Gilbride likes to rotate fresh legs. The Giants need Wilson's explosiveness on the field. Last year they averaged a league-low 3.5 yards per carry in team rushing.
