Zac Jackson, of ClevelandBrowns.com, reports Browns WRs David Patten and Mike Furrey will be near the front of the line for wide receiver drills when training camp opens. However, it will be up to them to stay there by holding off the younger wide receivers behind them looking for playing time.
The Huddle Take: Brian Robiskie and Mohammed Massaquoi weren't drafted to sit around, and Josh Cribbs could factor into the mix as well. Ideally for the Browns, their draft picks will emerge and they'll keep either Patten or Furrey as a veteran presence while developing the younger guys.

Updating a previous report, The Sports Network reports the Cleveland Browns have signed unrestricted free-agent WR David Patten. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
The Huddle Take: The Browns certainly have needs at the position, but the signing of Patten could also be a way for Cleveland to prepare to replace Donte Stallworth should his legal battles cost him this season or more.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports the Saints saved $2.25 million against the salary cap by releasing WR David Patten. The team could look to re-sign Patten at a reduced rate.
The Huddle Take: The Saints were thick with receivers last season, so Patten could explore a less crowded opportunity.

The Biloxi Sun-Herald, reports the New Orleans Saints have released WR David Patten.
The Huddle Take: The release of Patten should come as little surprise since the Saints have one of the most potent passing attacks in the league and have the likes of Marques Colston, Lance Moore and Robert Meacham ready to lineup as starters. If New Orleans can keep everyone healthy then fantasy owners should view each of these receivers as worthy of starting as a No. 2 wideout regardless of scoring format.
