The Oakland Raiders agreed to terms with free-agent DB Charles Woodson (Packers) on a 1-year, $1.8 million contract Tuesday, May 21.
Huddle Up: Hope the Black Hole faithful saved their Woodson jerseys from his previous 8-year stint in Oakland after being selected fourth overall in the 1998 draft. Woodson, who has had 10 interceptions, 5.5 sacks and 8 forced fumbles/fumble recoveries over the past 3 seasons, also drew recent interest from the Broncos, Panthers, Giants and Lions but the Silver & Black needed him -- and likely offered him -- the most.
Posted: 5/19/2013 10:59pm et
Free-agent DB Charles Woodson (Packers) said he is willing to sign with the Detroit Lions if he is comfortable with the salary.
Huddle Up: Add another suitor to the list for Woodson, who suddenly has gained quite a bit of leverage over the past week with the Broncos, Panthers, Raiders, Giants and now the Lions showing interest.
Posted: 5/16/2013 11:15pm et
The New York Giants are interested in signing free-agent DB Charles Woodson (Packers), according to Woodson's agent, Carl Poston. The Giants would likely sign Woodson to the veteran's minimum if he passes a physical. The Denver Broncos, Carolina Panthers and Oakland Raiders are also interested in his services. Woodson could play as a safety for New York, and he could also play corner, if needed.
Huddle Up: After 2 months of next to no action, the market suddenly is heating up for the 36-year-old Woodson, who visited Denver on Wednesday and also is planning a trip to Oakland.
Posted: 5/14/2013 11:27pm et
The Oakland Raiders have submitted an initial offer for free-agent DB Charles Woodson (Packers).
Huddle Up: The Raiders suddenly are very interested in reuniting with Woodson, especially after learning that the safety will visit with the division-rival Broncos this week.
Posted: 5/14/2013 12:55pm et
The Denver Broncos will visit with free-agent DB Charles Woodson (Packers) sometime this week.
Huddle Up: Woodson would be a good fit for the Broncos, who could use some safety help and veteran defensive leadership.
Posted: 5/12/2013 11:06pm et
The Cleveland Browns have not shown any apparent interest in free-agent DB Charles Woodson (Packers) this offseason.
Huddle Up: For now, scratch another team off the list of potential suitors for the safety, who will turn 37 in October.
Posted: 5/9/2013 10:39pm et
Free-agent DB Charles Woodson (Packers) said he is not optimistic about signing with the San Francisco 49ers because the team has added FS Craig Dahl and FS Eric Reid this offseason. Woodson added that he's been surprised that he has not received more interest overall. "I am surprised because I don't think there's any question in anybody's mind whether or not I can play football," Woodson said. "So, my issue is, 'you know I can play football, why am I not on a team, why haven't I had more visits?' I'm kind of surprised by it."
Huddle Up: Woodson will be 37 this October and has missed a total of 10 games over the past 2 seasons -- 2 primary reasons why teams haven't been lighting up his agent's phone. However, Woodson is far from washed up, though and would inject immediate veteran leadership wherever he lands.
Posted: 4/17/2013 2:54pm et
San Francisco 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said the team still has interest in free-agent DB Charles Woodson.
Huddle Up: With the Seahawks signing Antoine Winfield, the Niners have fallen a bit off the pace in the NFC West's offseason champion race. Woodson would be a step towards catching up.
Posted: 4/7/2013 11:16pm et
The Cleveland Browns likely will not show interest in free-agent DB Charles Woodson (Packers).
Huddle Up: Woodson likely is going to have to wait until teams assess their needs after the draft to find a new home.
Posted: 3/7/2013 1:15pm et
The Seattle Seahawks, Miami Dolphins, New York Jets and New York Giants reportedly have called to inquire about free-agent CB Charles Woodson (Packers).
Huddle Up: Woodson will hit 37 in October, but his veteran savvy would be a good fit for a number of teams, particularly the Seahawks and their talented but awfully young defense.
Posted: 2/24/2013 1:14pm et
Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll did not rule out the possibility of the team signing free-agent CB Charles Woodson this offseason. 'Charles has been a good football player,' Carroll said. 'I don't know if this is the time and place or not. I know he's looking for a spot right now. A guy of that kind of caliber, it would be a great opportunity to have him play with our young guys. I don't know if it will ever work out, but we'll see.'
Huddle Up: The Seahawks have had one of the league's top defenses for several seasons now, but it's a young defense powered by the likes of CB Richard Sherman and LB Bobby Wagner. To get over the top, possessing some savvy veteran leadership is almost always is part of the recipe, and a player such as Woodson would most definitely fill that bill for Seattle.
Posted: 2/16/2013 8:08am et
The Green Bay Packers have officially released CB Charles Woodson. Woodson indicated he would like to sign with a team that can contend for the Super Bowl, according to his agent. "He sounds like he has a lot of football left. He'd like to play for a contender, win another Super Bowl," agent Carl Poston said. Woodson is the only player in NFL history with touchdowns off interceptions in six straight seasons (2006-11), and leads the league with nine touchdowns off interceptions since 2006.
Huddle Up: Woodson may be on the downslope of his career, but he still has some game and, as evidenced by his streak, is always good for some IDP points in the form of a pick six.
Posted: 1/24/2013 1:37pm et
Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers said DB Charles Woodson is one of the team's core players and hopes he returns in 2013. Woodson is due $10 million next season, and the team may want him back at a lower number. 'I know he is under contract and that he is an important part of our football team,' Rodgers said. 'I think he adds a lot. He is still playing at a really high level. He's very intelligent and sets a good example in preparation ... Having his presence around the locker room really helps, setting an example for the young guys. It helps me out, as far as being the leader.'
Huddle Up: While Woodson's level of play obviously has tailed off with age, his experience and leadership are invaluable in a league dominated by the green 20-somethings with fresh legs.
Posted: 1/17/2013 1:24pm et
Green Bay Packers CB Charles Woodson looked slow in the NFC Divisional playoff game loss against the San Francisco 49ers and he might be a candidate to be released.
Huddle Up: To be fair, it was Woodson's second game back from a broken collarbone, and just about every defender wearing green & gold looked slow this past Saturday night trying to keep up with Niners QB Colin Kaepernick.
Posted: 1/2/2013 1:42pm et
Green Bay Packers CB Charles Woodson has been cleared to play and he is expected to play in the team's Wild Card playoff game Saturday, Jan. 5.
Huddle Up: Woodson has been sidelined with a broken collarbone. He'll be back to add another playmaking dimension to the Packers' defense when they host the Vikings in the Wild Card round this weekend.
Posted: 12/26/2012 11:24pm et
Green Bay Packers CB Charles Woodson (collarbone) has been ruled out for Week 17.
Huddle Up: The Pack had hoped to get the veteran safety some game action before the postseason, but it will be up to Clay Matthews and others to shut down Adrian Peterson and the red-hot Vikes in Sunday's regular-season finale.
Posted: 12/24/2012 9:54pm et
Green Bay Packers CB Charles Woodson (collarbone) is getting very close to a return, according to head coach Mike McCarthy.
Huddle Up: The Pack definitely will try to get Woodson back on the field in Week 17 to give him some live action before the playoffs begin.
Posted: 12/18/2012 9:59pm et
Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy would not guarantee CB Charles Woodson (collarbone) would be back for the Week 16 game against the Tennessee Titans, but he did say he hoped the veteran would see some game action before the playoffs start. 'Charles Woodson's situation is, we're going to play him as soon as we're ready,' McCarthy said.
Huddle Up: With the Packers -- winners of 3 straight and wrapping up the NFC North title this past Sunday -- getting along fine without Woodson, there's obviously no need to rush him into action. Definitely look for him to see some snaps before the playoffs, though -- most likely in Week 17.
Posted: 12/7/2012 1:59pm et
Green Bay Packers CB Charles Woodson (collarbone) and LB Clay Matthews (hamstring) are both being prepared to return to action in Week 15 against the Chicago Bears. Head coach Mike McCarthy wants both players to practice in a limited fashion in pads this week because the team won't be in pads all of next week. Woodson's collarbone is healed, but he needs to get back into football shape.
Huddle Up: This should give a sagging Green Bay defense a huge boost. This is also important to note for anyone who might own either of these guys in IDP leagues and is still in the hunt.
Posted: 10/22/2012 7:09pm et
Green Bay Packers CB Charles Woodson suffered a broken collarbone in Week 7 but should be back this season, according to head coach Mike McCarthy, as long as he responds well to treatment.
Huddle Up: The Packers already rank among the league's bottom half against opposing fantasy QBs and WRs, and losing Woodson for the forseeable future certainly isn't going to help. It could mean Aaron Rodgers and Co. will be counted on to win more shootouts.
