The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced Monday, July 13, that they have released QB Brian Griese.
The Huddle Take: At first blush it might seem Griese is washed up, but although he's only started 24 games the last four seasons, he's thrown 23 touchdown passes. He's relatively young, 33, considering the lack of punishment he's taken the last few years. While he won't be a starting quarterback, a team could definitely benefit from having Griese as their main backup. If that happens, he could be worth late round consideration should you take the starter from wherever Griese lands.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Brian Griese (elbow) started in the team's Week 15 game. He did not throw the ball with much authority but was effective.
The Huddle Take: With Tampa Bay fighting for its playoff life, HC Jon Gruden will surely want to get Jeff Garcia back under center as soon as possible. Griese was efficient, but the team lost. Gruden probably feels Garcia gives him the best chance to win, although Gruden arrived at that realization grudgingly. If there's any chance Garcia's calf injury will allow him to play, look for him to be back in the saddle this week against San Diego.

PewterReport.com reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jeff Garcia (calf) was limited in practice Friday, Dec. 12, and is questionable for Week 15. QB Luke McCown and QB Brian Griese took the majority of reps in practice. Head coach Jon Gruden believes there is a chance Garcia can play in the game.
The Huddle Take: It would be tough for the Bucs to make a switch this late in the season, and Garcia has bounced back from limited practice weeks to play on Sunday in the past. However, if you rode Garcia's big Week 14 performance into your fantasy semifinals you'll need to keep an eye on this situation.
