Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz attempted 607 passes last year, the second-highest total for a rookie in NFL history. Head coach Doug Pederson hopes to 'take a little bit off' Wentz's plate in 2017 and believes the addition of RB LeGarrette Blount to the running game will help in that respect.

Huddle Up: The running game fell off about the same time right tackle Lane Johnson began serving his suspension, which contributed largely to the Eagles' heavy reliance on Wentz. There is a good chance the second-year signal-caller will improve on last year's numbers (3782 yards passing, 16 touchdowns and 14 interceptions) simply because he has a better supporting cast around him now, led by Alshon Jeffery. Wentz should be a solid QB2 in fantasy in 2017.

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeGarrette Blount was far and away the busiest player in the league inside the red zone last year, registering league highs in carries and touchdowns inside the 20, 10 and 5. Sixteen of his 68 red zone carries, 15 of his 42 attempts inside the 10 and 12 of his 24 rushes inside the 5 resulted in touchdowns. Mike Gillislee is expected to assume the power role Blount had with the New England Patriots last season.

Huddle Up: Blount obviously obviously cannot count on the same kind of volume in Philadelphia that he could in New England, but it is notable for present and future owners of Gillislee. While a repeat of Blount's franchise-record 18 rushing touchdowns for Gillislee is highly unlikely, he is a very good bet to reach double figures for the first time in his career and makes for a high-upside RB3 in most leagues.

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeGarrette Blount can earn $50,000 if he weighs between 240-245 pounds on the team's reporting date for training camp, according to a source.

Huddle Up: Blount is expected to see a heavy dosage of carries, and his touchdown potential gives him some luster as a high-end RB3.

  • Posted: 6/5/2017 4:37pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeGarrette Blount (illness) did not participate in organized team activities Monday, June 5, because of an illness.

Huddle Up: Blount should be fine for the start of training camp and could return for minicamp. Blount probably will receive a majority of the carries for the Eagles this season and can be considered a low-end No. 2 or a No. 3 running back in leagues because of his touchdown potential.

  • Posted: 5/19/2017 6:20pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeGarrette Blount will likely inherit the carries RB Ryan Mathews was given last year, according to beat writer Jimmy Kempski, and Kempski estimates Blount will see around 170 carries.

Huddle Up: Blount seems like a safe bet to handle the carries around the goal line, and if he also sees a bulk of the early-down work, he should have himself a nice season. Don't expect a repeat of last year's 18-touchdown outburst, but Blount could be a low-end RB2 or luxury RB3.

  • Posted: 5/18/2017 7:19pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeGarrette Blount said QB Carson Wentz is 'one of those guys you want to build a team around' and 'has the potential to be a really special player.'

Huddle Up: Wentz showed promise in his rookie season, but it is still a reach to expect QB1 production from him in 2017. He is an appealing option in keeper formats but a backup in redraft leagues.

  • Posted: 5/17/2017 10:00am ET

Philadelphia Eagles RB Ryan Mathews is expected to be released once he is healthy following the signing of LeGarrette Blount, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Huddle Up: Mathews has long been rumored to be out in Philadelphia, so Schefter isn't really breaking any new news here. The official move may take a while to happen, since the 29-year-old is still healing from neck surgery. Mathews may get another shot or two at running in the NFL, but his days of being a somewhat useful fantasy back are probably coming to an end.

  • Posted: 5/17/2017 7:25am ET

Free-agent RB LeGarrette Blount (Patriots) agreed to a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles Wednesday, May 17, worth up to $2.8 million.

Huddle Up: The Eagles are expected to cut Ryan Mathews, and Blount will battle with Donnel Pumphrey and Wendell Smallwood for the carries on first and second downs. Darren Sproles will be in the mix on most third downs. If Blount, who should have a leg up on the rest, can seize the job, he'll be a decent RB2 in fantasy.

  • Posted: 5/11/2017 7:21am ET

Free-agent RB LeGarrette Blount (Patriots) has interested teams continue to talk to him, and they're trying to work around the compensation the New England Patriots attached to him.

Huddle Up: The tag placed on Blount is seldom used, and there's fear that it could scare teams away from him - much like the draft-pick compensation did to free agents in MLB. Blount is expected to land somewhere in a timeshare and could be a low-end RB2.

  • Posted: 5/10/2017 12:40pm ET

Free-agent RB LeGarrette Blount (Patriots) received a one-year, $1.1 million tender offer from the New England Patriots before the May 9 deadline that affects compensatory picks, according to a source. The Patriots would receive help in their chances for a compensatory pick if Blount signs with another team.

Huddle Up: Blount likely will not re-sign with the Patriots because of the additions the team made at the position this offseason. Blount has been linked to a few teams but may be waiting for a better opportunity. He probably will be part of a committee no matter where he signs but could be a No. 3 or No. 4 running back in fantasy leagues because of his touchdown potential.

  • Posted: 5/3/2017 5:40am ET

Free-agent RB LeGarrette Blount (Patriots) has interest from the Detroit Lions, according to sources.

Huddle Up: Blount figures to be busy on first and second downs wherever he lands, and he'll be a low-end RB2 in fantasy.

  • Posted: 4/25/2017 5:14am ET

Free-agent RB LeGarrette Blount (Patriots) has mutual interest in the New York Giants, and that situation could heat up as we get close to the NFL draft.

Huddle Up: The Giants still have a slew of backs, and they seemed to really like Paul Perkins late last season. Blount had a magical year in 2016, but he's unlikely to repeat those 18 touchdowns. He's more of an RB2 option in fantasy.

  • Posted: 4/24/2017 4:43pm ET

Free-agent RB LeGarrette Blount (Patriots) likely will not re-sign with the New England Patriots this offseason after the Patriots signed RB Mike Gillislee.

Huddle Up: Blount has been linked to a few teams but likely will have to wait until after the draft to sign with a team. He probably will be part of a committee with his next team but could still be a No. 3 running back in some leagues because of his touchdown potential.

  • Posted: 4/10/2017 3:40pm ET

Free-agent RB LeGarrette Blount (Patriots) does not plan to sign the current offer from the New England Patriots, which he received at the start of free agency.

Huddle Up: Blount wants to re-sign with the Patriots but likely is looking for more money, but the Patriots are sticking with their first offer. He had an outstanding 2016 season with the Patriots and would have a similar role if he re-signs. He would be a No. 2 or No. 3 fantasy running back if he returns to New England.

  • Posted: 4/9/2017 5:23pm ET

Free-agent RB LeGarrette Blount (Patriots) is likely to re-sign with the New England Patriots sooner rather than later, according to beat writer Jim McBride.

Huddle Up: If Blount does return, his role as the power back in New England's high-scoring offense should keep him in the RB2 mix.

  • Posted: 4/7/2017 4:38pm ET

Free-agent RB LeGarrette Blount (Patriots) has received a contract offer from the New England Patriots this offseason.

Huddle Up: Blount likely would continue to receive most of the carries if he decides to re-sign with the Patriots but may be looking for a more lucrative contract from a team. Blount can be a No. 2 or No. 3 running back in fantasy leagues if he is back with New England.

  • Posted: 4/4/2017 4:37pm ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount would like to return to Patriots after next season and the Patriots would like him back. However, Blount and the Patriots remain on different terms in regards to a long-term contract.

Huddle Up: Blount led all NFL running backs last year with 18 touchdowns -- easily the most of any season in his career. Odds are that 2016 will end up being a career year for Blount, so expectations should be lowered going forward. He is capable of double-digit touchdowns, but don't view Blount as more than a low-end RB2 in standard leagues.

  • Posted: 3/19/2017 2:14pm ET

Free-agent RB LeGarrette Blount (Patriots) could be an option for the New York Giants because they are looking for a power running back to complement RB Paul Perkins, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Jordan Raanan.

Huddle Up: Blount has not been linked to many teams this offseason but should find a new team before the start of training camp. He may not be able to find a starting job but should be part of a running back committee. He could be a No. 3 or No. 4 fantasy running back depending on his team and his role.

  • Posted: 3/6/2017 5:42am ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount is expected to receive an offer in free agency the team won't match, and they're believed to be prepared for it.

Huddle Up: The backfield in New England is a little crowded after James White's emergence in the Super Bowl. Blount is coming off a monster 18-touchdown year, and it's tough to expect a repeat performance from the 30-year-old this year. He'll be in the RB1 discussion, but he's a more secure RB2.

  • Posted: 1/31/2017 4:27pm ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount has rushed for eight touchdowns in his last seven postseason games. He has scored six times in his last seven games this season, including the playoffs.

Huddle Up: Blount led the NFL in rushing touchdowns this season with 18, so it's no surprise that he's continuing to score in the playoffs. Look for the Patriots to keep riding him in the Super Bowl against a subpar Atlanta Falcons rush defense.

  • Posted: 1/22/2017 6:44pm ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount rushed 16 times for 47 yards and one touchdown Sunday, Jan. 22, against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship Game. He added one catch for eight yards.

Huddle Up: Blount has been masterful at finding the end zone this season, and -- assuming the to-be free agent returns to the Pats -- he'll be a viable RB3 in most formats for the 2017 fantasy campaign.

  • Posted: 1/14/2017 9:08pm ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount had eight carries for 31 yards in a 34-16 win over the Houston Texans Saturday, Jan. 14.

Huddle Up: New England is notorious for favoring a certain back based on the matchup, and Blount was the odd man out tonight. He still has plenty of upside because of his touchdown potential, but fantasy owners have to accept occasional duds.

  • Posted: 1/13/2017 3:02pm ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (illness) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 13, and is not on the injury report for the Divisional round playoff game against the Houston Texans.

Huddle Up: Blount has been a solid running back for the Patriots this season and found the end zone 18 times during the regular season. Blount likely will receive a lot of carries against the Texans and should be a No. 1 running back in all leagues.

  • Posted: 1/13/2017 10:00am ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (illness) took part in team meetings Friday, Jan. 13.

Huddle Up: Blount missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday but has reportedly been at team headquarters on both days. Given his lack of practice time this week, he could see his snaps scaled back in Saturday's Divisional Round game against the Houston Texans, although he is a good bet to remain the team's goal-line back and score at least once if he plays. Continue to monitor this situation, but it appears for now he has a good shot at being active.

  • Posted: 1/12/2017 8:50am ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (illness) is out of practice again Thursday, Jan. 12.

Huddle Up: It's not time to push the panic button yet. Blount had a fabulous season with 18 touchdowns, but the Patriots could go a different route in any given week. Also, Dion Lewis (knee) is healthy. Blount isn't a safe RB1 against the Houston Texans this weekend.

  • Posted: 1/11/2017 1:41pm ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (illness) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Jan. 11.

Huddle Up: Blount should be able to play in the Divisional Round playoff game as long as he can recover from his illness. He will receive most of the carries against the Houston Texans and can be a No. 1 running back in fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 1/9/2017 8:04am ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount had 24 rushes for 105 yards and two touchdowns in the Week 3 game against the Houston Texans.

Huddle Up: He did that while J.J. Watt (back) was still active, but the Pats were without Tom Brady during his suspension and Dion Lewis (knee). So Blount may or may not have the same kind of workload in this playoff game. Houston was a top-five defense containing opposing RBs in fantasy the last five weeks of the season. Blount will be a better play as an RB2.

  • Posted: 1/7/2017 8:58pm ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount set career highs with 299 carries, 1,161 yards and an NFL-high 18 touchdowns this season, and the Patriots ran the ball 45.6 percent of the time, their highest percentage since 2010.

Huddle Up: Blount has been much more than a short-yardage back this season, but handling the goal-line carries for a high-scoring offense is a big part of his appeal. He has a safe floor and plenty of upside and should be one of the better running back plays throughout the playoffs.

  • Posted: 1/1/2017 7:14pm ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount rushed 14 times for 51 yards and a touchdown in the Week 17 game against the Miami Dolphins.

Huddle Up: Blount posted at least one touchdown run in each of the past five games, and 10 of the past 12 games. He led the NFL with 18 rushing scores, and went over 1,000 yards for the first time in his NFL career. He will be a popular pick in postseason fantasy leagues, too.

  • Posted: 12/31/2016 6:46pm ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount has the best conversion rate in the NFL this season on carries from the one-yard line, scoring on 10 of his 16 attempts, and Blount said he has the right mentality to be successful running in the red zone.

Huddle Up: Blount has scored in all but three games this season, and he has five scores in his last four games. Lock him in as a high-floor RB2 in Week 17.

  • Posted: 12/24/2016 1:43pm ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount rushed for 50 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries against the New York Jets in Week 16.

Huddle Up: Blount has rushed for 17 touchdowns this season and has been a consistent option for fantasy owners but may be a risky option for owners in Week 17 if the team has the No. 1 seed in the playoffs clinched. He should be a No. 2 running back if the team is playing for something.

  • Posted: 12/12/2016 9:45pm ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount rushed 18 times for 72 yards and a touchdown in the Week 14 game against the Baltimore Ravens Monday, Dec. 12, and he added one grab for seven yards on his only target. He passed 1,000 rushing yards for the first time since the 2010 season, and his 14 rushing scores ties Hall of Famer Curtis Martin for the single-season record for the Patriots.

Huddle Up: Blount has been a consistent source of fantasy points all season and he is showing no signs of slowing down. He can be trusted as a low-end RB1 or must-start RB2 in all fantasy formats.

  • Posted: 12/10/2016 6:23pm ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount faces the Baltimore Ravens in Week 14, and LB C.J. Mosley said the Ravens are ready to 'gang-tackle' Blount.

Huddle Up: Blount has been a workhorse for the Patriots, but he is more of a low-end RB2 against a Baltimore defense that has allowed the fewest rushing yards and touchdowns this year.

  • Posted: 12/4/2016 4:15pm ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount rushed 18 times for 88 yards and a touchdown in the Week 13 game against the Los Angeles Rams. He was not targeted in the pass game.

Huddle Up: Blount snapped a mini-scoring skid, as he hadn't found the end zone in either of his past two games. It was the first time this season he had back-to-back games without a visit to the end zone. He remains a must-start fantasy option in Week 14 despite facing the Baltimore Ravens and their lockdown rushing defense.

  • Posted: 11/27/2016 10:57pm ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount rushed 11 times for 67 yards in the Week 12 game against the New York Jets. He was targeted once but did not record a reception.

Huddle Up: Blount failed to find the end zone in back-to-back games for the first time this season. Despite the lack of touchdowns lately, he remains a must-start RB2 in all fantasy leagues heading into Week 13 against Los Angeles.

  • Posted: 11/20/2016 10:21pm ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount rushed for 124 yards in the Week 11 game against the San Francisco 49ers, including a season-high 44-yard run.

Huddle Up: Blount entered the week with a league-leading 12 rushing touchdowns, but he failed to find the end zone. However, he had a solid stat line and he remains a solid fantasy option heading into Week 12 at N.Y. Jets.

  • Posted: 11/16/2016 10:14pm ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount will meet the San Francisco 49ers in Week 11. The 49ers have allowed 180.4 rushing yards per game, worst in the NFL. The 49ers have also yielded an NFL-high 12 rushes of 20 or more yards and five scampers of 40-plus yards.

Huddle Up: Blount leads the NFL with 12 total touchdowns and he is certain to add to his total for fantasy owners this weekend against a porous 49ers rush D. He is a fantasy must-start in all formats for this ultra-favorable matchup.

  • Posted: 11/13/2016 10:28pm ET

New England Patriots QB LeGarrette Blount rushed 21 times for 69 yards with three touchdowns in the Week 10 game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Huddle Up: Blount leads the NFL with 12 total touchdowns and he is likely to add to that total when he faces the San Francisco 49ers, a team that entered Week 10 ranked last in rushing defense.

  • Posted: 10/16/2016 10:21pm ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (hip) rushed 13 times for 50 yards and a touchdown in the Week 6 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. He added two receptions for 20 yards on two targets.

Huddle Up: Blount did not have any setbacks with the hip injury which had him listed as questionable. He remains a solid RB2 heading into Week 7 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

  • Posted: 10/16/2016 7:19am ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (hip) will be active for Week 6's game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Huddle Up: Blount should be viewed as a touchdown-dependent RB2 option in most fantasy leagues going forward, with the Patriots expected to continue passing more often with QB Tom Brady under center.

  • Posted: 10/14/2016 4:01pm ET

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (hip) was limited during practice Friday, Oct. 14, and is listed as questionable for Week 6.

Huddle Up: Blount received 18 carries last week and probably will receive a similar amount of carries against the Cincinnati Bengals. Owners should consider Blount as a No. 2 running back at this time since the Patriots will throw more often with Tom Brady back.

  • Posted: 10/14/2016 2:38pm ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (hip) was one of 12 players on the team's injury report Friday, Oct. 14.

Huddle Up: Blount's hip has been an 'issue' for a while, but it hasn't kept him from ranking second in the league in carries through five weeks. Of bigger concern is the Patriots' shift in offensive philosophy with Tom Brady back under center. Blount was outsnapped by James White last week and doesn't fit well in the new offense, making him a touchdown-dependent RB2 at best going forward.

  • Posted: 10/12/2016 4:24pm ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (hip) was limited during practice Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Huddle Up: Blount was held to 37 yards in Week 5 but has scored five touchdowns in the first five games of the season. He will continue to receive most of the work in the running game and could be a No. 2 running back in standard leagues.

  • Posted: 10/9/2016 9:02am ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (hip) is officially active for the team's Week 5 game.

Huddle Up: Blount should continue to receive most of the carries in the running back but could lose some touches with Tom Brady back in the lineup. He should still be a No. 2 running back for owners against a favorable matchup.

  • Posted: 10/8/2016 9:21am ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount should expect his role to shrink with Tom Brady back from suspension, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.

Huddle Up: Reiss points out the Patriots have used a designed run on 48 percent of their plays so far this year, but with Brady playing every snap last year, that number was 35 percent. With better health and more playmakers in the passing game this season, expect a similar approach. As a result, Blount figures to be more of a touchdown-dependent RB3/flex option going forward than RB2.

  • Posted: 10/7/2016 5:14pm ET

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (hip) is listed as questionable for Week 5.

Huddle Up: Blount should be able to play and will receive most of the carries during the game. It is not known if Blount will lose some carries with Tom Brady is back, but he should continue to be a No. 2 running back in all leagues.

  • Posted: 10/7/2016 11:51am ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (hip) was limited in practice on Thursday, Oct. 6, but the team does not appear to be overly concerned about his availability for Week 5 against the Cleveland Browns.

Huddle Up: Blount's run as a volume-heavy RB2 is likely coming to an end, but he's going to keep his monstrous touchdown upside even after Tom Brady returns this week and Dion Lewis (hopefully) complete his stint on the PUP list. In an offense that figures to be among the best in the NFL once again with Brady at the controls, Blount will be a high-upside flex most weeks.

  • Posted: 10/6/2016 5:13pm ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (hip) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Oct. 6.

Huddle Up: Blount is expected to be on the field in Week 5, and even with Tom Brady returning, Blount should be a RB2 against a porous Cleveland defense.

  • Posted: 10/5/2016 4:59pm ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (hip) was limited during practice Wednesday, Oct. 5.

Huddle Up: Blount should be able to play in Week 5, but owners can monitor the situation. He likely will lose some carries with Tom Brady back in the lineup but should still be a No. 2 running back in fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 10/2/2016 1:50pm ET

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount rushed for 54 yards on 13 carries against the Buffalo Bills in Week 4. He also caught three passes for four yards in the game.

Huddle Up: Blount has been a big part of the team's offense over the first four weeks of the season but probably will see a little less work when Tom Brady returns. He can still be a No. 2 running back for owners most weeks.
