ESPN reports the Seattle Seahawks waived RB Edgerrin James Tuesday, Nov. 3.
The Huddle Take: This is probably the end of the road for a once great running back. It's possible, of course, that someone will pick him up, but even if they do it's hard to picture James having Fantasy relevance.
Posted: 9/4/2009 10:59am et
Danny O'Neil, of The Seattle Times, reports Seattle Seahawks RB Edgerrin James rushed for 11 yards on two carries in first game with the Seahawks Thursday, Sept. 3. Head coach Jim Mora said he wanted James to run the ball a couple of times with the first-team offense.
The Huddle Take: The plan in Seattle still calls for Julius Jones to be the primary ball-carrier, but James' experience in the zone-blocking system might earn him a decent portion of the carries.
Posted: 8/24/2009 6:18pm et
ProFootballTalk.com reports the Seattle Seahawks have agreed to terms with unrestricted free-agent RB Edgerrin James (Cardinals) on a one-year deal worth $2 million, according to a league source.
The Huddle Take: It makes sense that the Seahawks would do something to bolster a rushing corps headed by Julius Jones and T.J. Duckett. Earlier rumors that the Jets were shopping Thomas Jones to an NFC West team proved unfounded, but Seattle would have been the only logical team in the division to make that deal. It would probably be best to stay away from any Seahawk running back, since James, Jones and Duckett will likely all see significant action this season.
Posted: 6/27/2009 11:34pm et
Tom Curran, of ProFootballTalk.com, reports the agent for free-agent RB Edgerrin James, Drew Rosenhaus, said James did receive an offer earlier this offseason but turned it down. "We will be selective. We want to make sure for Edge that he goes to a good situation. He would like an opportunity to have a significant role and a great opportunity for playing time," Rosenhaus said. "We may wait until right before camp and see what teams have the greatest need. We may wait until during or after camps when teams are dealing with injuries."
The Huddle Take: Edge was never a big fan of OTAs anyway, so it's not at all surprising that James would prefer to wait until closer to the season. And that assumes that there's actually an offer forthcoming.
Posted: 5/2/2009 4:54pm et
Bill Williamson, of ESPN.com, reports the Kansas City Chiefs could potentially pursue free-agent RB Edgerrin James.
The Huddle Take: If Larry Johnson gets the boot in KC, James would make sense as a veteran option to a young Chiefs backfield likely headed up by Jamal Charles.
Posted: 4/29/2009 11:34pm et
The Arizona Republic, reports free-agent RB Edgerrin James (Cardinals) could sign with a new team soon, according to agent Drew Rosenhaus. 'So far several teams have expressed interest and we may have a deal in place in the very near future,' Rosenhaus said via text message.
The Huddle Take: What else could the agent for James indicate than he will have a new deal and team in the near future. The reality is that "Edge" does have something left in the tank but it is hard to imagine him signing anything longer than a two-year deal. Expect the free-agent to lose a step or two due to his past injury problems and the fact that he is on the wrong side of 30.
Posted: 4/28/2009 11:29pm et
ESPN, reports the Arizona Cardinals have released RB Edgerrin James, according to a source.
The Huddle Take: The release of James has been rumored by many since late last season when the veteran running back allegedly complained about the amount of carries he was receiving. There is no questioning his ability and talent as a starting running back in the league, but in the latter stages of an illustrious career look for James to contribute to another team at least for the next few seasons. If he lands in the right situation he should still be viewed as a solid No. 2 or No. 3 running back.
Posted: 4/27/2009 12:43pm et
The Arizona Republic reports the Cardinals are expected to release RB Edgerrin James prior to the team's mandatory minicamp. The Cardinals selected two running backs in the NFL Draft and now have five backs on the roster, excluding James.
The Huddle Take: With no long-term salary cap ramifications to keeping or releasing James, the Cards had the luxury of seeing what was available in the draft before making a decision on Edge. It appears now as if he'll have the opportunity to find his own landing spot this offseason.
Posted: 3/5/2009 12:21am et
The Arizona Republic, reports the Arizona Cardinals will release RB Edgerrin James on their schedule, not his. James has reportedly pleaded with general manager Rod Graves to release him. The Cardinals want to get a replacement or two for James before letting him go.
The Huddle Take: James has seemingly been disgruntled in Arizona for some time since his playing time has been limited under coach Whisenhunt. RB Tim Hightower is expected to get the starters role for the Cardinals in 2009 which almost assures that James will be with a new team sometime in the next few months.
Posted: 2/10/2009 11:20pm et
The Tampa Tribune, reports there is speculation that Arizona Cardinals RB Edgerrin James, who is expected to be released prior to the start of free agency, could join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. James has apparently told folks close to him that he'd like to return to Florida. Although the team has RB Earnest Graham as a workhorse starter, they're a little thin after that. James would give the team added depth as well as someone to push Graham a bit.
The Huddle Take: The talented Edgerrin James showed during the playoffs with Arizona that he still has something left in the tank and would make at least a nice complement to Earnest Graham in Tampa Bay. If the Bucs were to bring James in then fantasy owners can expect more of a running back committee in Tampa for 2009.
