The New England Patriots, looking to fill gaping holes in their secondary caused by the departure of Asante Samuel to the Eagles, have signed veteran CB Fernando Bryant to a 1-year deal. "Adding a cornerback with Fernando's experience and production is a good opportunity for us," coach Bill Belichick said.
The Huddle Take: Bryant comes in to compete for a starting position in a depleted New England secondary. Not only have the Patriots lost Samuel but they were also unable to retain Randall Gay (New Orleans) and Eugene Wilson (Tampa Bay) for 2008. New England will no longer have the shut down secondary that teams were accustomed to seeing last year. Fantasy owners should keep this in mind and downgrade the New England defense for the 2008 season as they will likely give up more points than in 2007.
