The Associated Press reports New York Jets RB Thomas Jones had 22 carries for 210 yards with a touchdown Week 6. He also caught two passes for 17 receiving yards.
The Huddle Take: The 210 yards set a new franchise record and, combined with Mark Sanchez's five picks, drove home the point that if the Jets are to win it will be on the strength of their ground game and defense. While Sunday's performance might not earn Jones the contract reworking he's been angling for, it solidifies his stature as a consistent fantasy producer.

New York Daily News reports New York Jets RBs Thomas Jones and Leon Washington have been seeing nearly equal playing time this season. Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said the team will use whichever runner is producing at the time and will not give them a defined role. The Jets are hoping to make the offense more unpredictable. Washington said both running backs are fine with the situation. Schottenheimer said he believes Jones and Washington are interchangeable in all situations.
The Huddle Take: That my friends is the NFL definition of a true running back by committee - and there are no signs that things are going to change in New York any time soon barring an injury in the backfield.
Posted: 9/14/2009 12:20am et
The Associated Press reports New York Jets RB Thomas Jones had 20 carries for 107 yards with two touchdowns in the team's Week 1 game.
The Huddle Take: Jones is picking up right where he left off last season and should once again bring consistent numbers to fantasy owners that had drafted him for their teams. With Leon Washington also in the mix the Jets have a potent one-two running attack and that does not even mention rookie Shonn Greene who is currently injured and may be the best runner on the team.
Posted: 8/12/2009 5:52pm et
Contrary to a previous report, Roderick Boone, of Newsday, reports the New York Jets are not shopping RB Thomas Jones to other teams, according to a source.
The Huddle Take: Of course this rumor is false; it makes too much sense for the Jets, who have Shonn Greene waiting in the wings and appear ready to sign Leon Washington to a decent-sized contract, to be looking to deal Jones. On the other hand, the Jets have Jones tied to a very favorable contract—which is why Jones is angling for a new contract himself.
Posted: 8/11/2009 7:04pm et
The National Football Post reports the New York Jets are gauging the trade interest in RB Thomas Jones and have contacted an NFC West team about Jones, according to a league source.
The Huddle Take: That would be a blockbuster. If you look at it through simple process of elimination, the Rams have Steven Jackson, the 49ers Frank Gore, and the Cardinals have Tim Hightower and Beanie Wells, once Wells fully recovers from an ankle injury. That leaves the Seahawks as the likely trade partner, since Julius Jones and T.J. Duckett don't exactly inspire visions of greatness.
Posted: 7/30/2009 1:40pm et
The Newark Star-Ledger reports New York Jets RB Thomas Jones reported to training camp on time despite being unhappy about his contract situation.
The Huddle Take: Jones is in camp while Leon Washington continues his holdout. But that doesn't mean Jones necessarily will be in the driver's seat when it comes to regular season carries. Washington is extremely explosive, and the Jets will want him to touch the ball as much as possible.
Posted: 7/29/2009 4:17pm et
Roderick Boone, of Newsday, reports the New York Jets will not re-work the contract of RB Thomas Jones, according to a source.
The Huddle Take: No shock here; now we just need to see if the news has sunk in with Jones yet. Don't forget, the Jets have Shonn Greene, who would likely be able to do a pretty decent imitation of Jones in a tag-team backfield with Leon Washington.
Posted: 7/22/2009 4:20pm et
M.A. Mehta, of the Newark Star-Ledger, reports New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said he fully expects RBs Thomas Jones and Leon Washington to report to training camp on time. Both running backs are looking for new contracts.
The Huddle Take: The Jets have Shonn Greene as an insurance policy should either back try to play contract hardball, but the team would prefer to have all hands on deck at the start of camp.
Posted: 5/27/2009 11:14pm et
NewYorkJets.com, reports New York Jets RB Thomas Jones is taking part in practice with the team Wednesday, May 27.
The Huddle Take: Great news for the Jets and Thomas Jones as the running back appears to be willing to work on his contract problems with the team while staying on the field. With Jones running so well last season, expect a quick resolution to his contract woes which will enable him to build on his breakout 2008 NFL campaign in New York.
Posted: 5/19/2009 10:53pm et
The Associated Press reports Drew Rosenhaus, agent for New York Jets RB Thomas Jones, said on his Twitter page that Jones will report for the Jets' organized team activity Wednesday, May 27.
The Huddle Take: This would certainly be encouraging for Jones as he looks to land a new contract from the Jets. Jones ran the ball well last season in New York and could provide another solid effort in 2009 if there are no contract problems heading into the regular season. Jones has quieted any doubters with last seasons effort and is clearly a solid No. 2 RB option for fantasy owners.
