Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul (ankle) and TE Logan Paulsen (toe) were placed on the Reserve/Injured list Sunday, Aug. 16. Meanwhile, the team signed undrafted free agent Ernst Brun (Iowa State).

Huddle Up: Another move or two could be in the offing, but in the meantime, Washington is counting on Jordan Reed more than ever. That, of course, is a risky proposition -- reality and fantasy -- as Reed has missed 12 of a possible 32 career regular-season games and has been hampered by a hamstring issue that caused him to miss the preseason opener and is threatening to keep him out of their contest as well.

Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul (ankle) will need surgery to repair a fractured ankle and will miss the entire season, head coach Jay Gruden said Thursday, Aug. 13.

Huddle Up: Paul was the backup plan if--when--Jordan Reed sustains his next injury. The Redskins love to throw to the tight end, but they're running out of warm bodies to fill the position.

Updating a previous story, Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul suffered a dislocated ankle Thursday, Aug. 13 and required an air case, according to a source. Paul will undergo an MRI to see if the ligaments are intact.

Huddle Up: Awful tough turn of events for Paul, who had been having a strong preseason and was listed as the starting tight end on the team's first depth chart of the preseason. Now, his season is in jeopardy, leaving Washington dangerously short on TEs at the moment with Jordan Reed and Logan Paulsen sitting out Thursday's game.

Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul's MRI on his injured shoulder was clear, according to head coach Jay Gruden.

Huddle Up: Paul, who's somewhat surprisingly listed atop the first D.C. TE depth chart, left practice early Monday with the injury, but it sounds like he'll be fine as he tries to hold off Jordan Reed and Logan Paulsen for the team's starting gig.

Washington Redskins WR Niles Paul added around 27 pounds this offseason in order to be a better blocker against some of the bigger defensive ends in the NFL. Paul also worked on Olympic-style weightlifting, which helps with lower-body explosiveness. He is listed as the starting tight end on the team's depth chart released Monday, Aug. 10.

Huddle Up: Paul started seven games last season and finished with a career-high 39 receptions for 507 yards and a TD. He's currently running ahead of the more heralded (and injury-prone) Jordan Reed, but let's see if he can hold on to the gig this preseason.

Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul re-signed Friday, March 6. Paul could earn up to a little under $10 million with the new contract.

Huddle Up: Paul, who is coming off a career year with 39 receptions for 507 yards and a TD, was one of the top free-agent TEs expected to hit the market, but the Skins stepped up Friday with a new deal. Paul's fantasy upside, though, is limited with Jordan Reed also still very much in the D.C. TE picture.

Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul (concussion) is expected to play in Week 5 after being cleared for full practice participation Friday, Oct. 3.

Huddle Up: With Jordan Reed likely to miss another week, Paul will start against Seattle. He's a low-end TE1 against a tough Seahawks defense.

Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul (concussion) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 3.

Huddle Up: It's a good sign that Paul will play this week. With Jordan Reed questionable once again, Paul looks like he'll get the start against Seattle. He's a borderline TE1 with a tough matchup.

Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul did not practice Tuesday, Sept. 30, and remains in the league's concussion protocol. However, head coach Jay Gruden said Paul is 'making very good progress.'

Huddle Up: Paul has an extra day to work with this week with Washington not playing until Monday night, so check in later in the week and see if he's still progressing.

Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul suffered a concussion during the team's Week 4 game Thursday, Sept. 25. He caught three passes for 60 yards before departing with the injury in the second quarter.

Huddle Up: Paul was waylaid by several Giants' DBs after catching a pass over the middle -- drawing a head-to-head contact flag -- and briefly appeared to be out cold before leaving the field and the game. The only bright spot is that Washington has 11 days before its next game, but fellow TE Jordan Reed (hamstring) could be back by then as well.

Washington Redskins TEs Niles Paul and Logan Paulsen will rotate at tight end during the team's Week 2 game, according to offensive coordinator Sean McVay.

Huddle Up: Neither TE offers much fantasy value at the moment. Paul - a former college WR - has more upside and could be a TE2 this week if he gets enough targets. He did catch four balls for 86 yards in the opener. However, owners should look elsewhere if they are replacing Jordan Reed.

  • Posted: 9/9/2014 7:31pm ET

Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul is set to continue as the starting tight end with TE Jordan Reed (hamstring) likely to miss some time. Head coach Jay Gruden said Reed will require an MRI exam to see if he can play in Week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Paul led the team with 86 receiving yards on four catches in Week 1 against the Houston Texans, but he also fumbled. He had four catches for 51 yards last season.

Huddle Up: If you're a Reed owner in a deep league where the TE pickings are slim on the waiver wire, definitely give Paul some strong consideration -- especially with it sounding as if Reed may miss a few games.
