The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports the Seahawks have traded LB Julian Peterson to the Detroit Lions for DL Cory Redding and a fifth-round draft choice in the 2009 NFL Draft. The deal is contingent on both players passing a physical.
The Huddle Take: Peterson had recently refused to renegotiate his deal with the Seahawks, so rather than cut him Seattle found a willing partner in Detroit. Redding provides some defensive line depth for the Seahawks, while Peterson should upgrade the Lions' linebacking corps.

Mike Sando, of ESPN.com, reports Seattle Seahawks LB Julian Peterson has refused a pay cut from the team, putting his future with the Seahawks in doubt, according to sources. Peterson's contract, a seven-year deal running through the 2012 season, calls for $6.5 million in salary for 2009. Counting bonus money already paid, the contract counts $8.8 million against the salary cap if Peterson remains on the roster and $4.6 million if the team releases him.
The Huddle Take: Peterson would certainly find a home on the open market, though not at quite the same salary level. And the Seahawks may opt to hang on to him anyway. With quality linebackers available in the upcoming draft, expect them to move on Peterson sooner rather than later.
