Miami Dolphins PK Caleb Sturgis has won the kicker job after the team decided to release PK Dan Carpenter.

Huddle Up: Sturgis was Miami's fifth-round pick, so he was the favorite to win the job all along. Sturgis has a strong leg and made 80 percent of his kicks during his college career at Florida. He isn't considered a fantasy starter at the moment but that could change if Miami's offense improves this season. Carpenter will almost certainly catch on with another team at some point this year.

Miami Dolphins PK Caleb Sturgis showed improvement in practice Friday, Aug. 2, connecting on all of his kicks from 42, 47 and 52 yards out.

Huddle Up: Sturgis had been sidelined with a groin injury and incumbent Dan Carpenter is having a solid training camp thus far. The Dolphins used a fifth-round draft pick on Sturgis, so if he kicks well in camp and in preseason games, he will likely win the job over Carpenter. Sturgis has a strong leg and he made 80% of his kicks during his career at Florida. The rookie would have some sneaky fantasy value if he beats out Carpenter.
