Updating an ongoing story, New England Patriots WR Aaron Dobson underwent surgery March 10 to have a screw permanently implanted into his injured left foot. Dobson had a stress fracture fixed, and the initial prognosis of two to three months is now an overly optimistic timetable. He began running in July but has not showcased any change-of-direction work in practice.

Huddle Up: The games that count are still more than a month away, but in the meantime, Dobson -- who's on the PUP list -- is falling behind fellow second-year WRs Kenbrell Thompkins & Josh Boyce and FA signee Brandon LaFell in the battle for WR pecking order on the squad.

New England Patriots WR Aaron Dobson (foot) could be ready for for the start of training camp, according to a league source. It is still too early to know his status for sure, but this is the first time there has been optimism he could be ready for the start of training camp.

Huddle Up: Dobson could have some late-round value as more than a few might be writing off the 2013 second-round pick after his injury and drop-filled 37-519-4 rookie season.

New England Patriots WR Aaron Dobson (foot) will find out in the next 10 to 14 days if the stress fracture in his foot has healed with rest or if he needs to undergo surgery. Dobson likely would not be ready for the start of offseason workouts if he has to undergo surgery.

Huddle Up: With Dobson looking to be a key component in the New England passing game in 2014, the team would prefer him to be involved in team activities from the get-go. Of course, having surgery now rather than this summer means Dobson will at least be available for the start of the season. Looks like we'll know more in a couple weeks.

New England Patriots WR Aaron Dobson is expected to start in 2014 and be the future X receiver for the team.

Huddle Up: Dobson showed some rookie-season flashes with 37 catches for 519 yards and 4 TDs in 12 games. If he's starting in a Tom Brady offense, he'll definitely be worth a fantasy look.

New England Patriots WR Aaron Dobson (foot) is active for the AFC Championship Game Sunday, Jan. 19. Fellow WR Kenbrell Thompkins (hip, concussion) is inactive.

Huddle Up: Dobson, who had 37 catches for 519 yards and 4 TDs during the regular season, will play after missing the team's divisional-round win over the Colts. He wouldn't seem to be in line for a significant role, but you can never outguess Bill Belichick and his game-plans.

New England Patriots WRs Aaron Dobson (foot) and Kenbrell Thompkins (hip, concussion) were limited in practice again Thursday, Jan. 16, and their statuses remain in question heading into the AFC Championship Game against the Denver Broncos.

Huddle Up: Check to see if the outlook gets any brighter Friday, but as of right now, both seem iffy at best to make contributions Sunday.

New England Patriots WR Aaron Dobson (foot) is participating in practice Wednesday, Jan. 15.

Huddle Up: Dobson has been sidelined for much of the past month with his foot injury, but indications are he'll be available for this weekend's conference championship game.

  • Posted: 1/9/2014 3:49pm ET

New England Patriots WR Aaron Dobson (foot) is not practicing Thursday, Jan. 9, and is unlikely to play in the Divisonal Round playoff game.

Huddle Up: Dobson still has a chance to play Saturday night, but it's obviously growing slimmer with each day he sits.

  • Posted: 1/8/2014 12:45pm ET

New England Patriots WR Aaron Dobson (foot) was the only player not spotted at practice Wednesday, Jan. 8.

Huddle Up: The Patriots have been dealing with a revolving receiving corps all season long, why should their first week of playoffs be any different? If Dobson can get in a limited practice session later in the week, expect him to try to play this weekend.

  • Posted: 1/7/2014 11:08pm ET

New England Patriots WR Aaron Dobson (foot) did not practice Tuesday, Jan. 7.

Huddle Up: Dobson played in the final 2 regular-season contests after a late-season injury absence, but only caught a combined 2 passes for 27 yards. The rookie wideout should play Saturday night, but his effectiveness is a question mark.

New England Patriots WR Aaron Dobson (foot) traveled with the team for their Week 16 game and may be able to play. He is listed as questionable for the game.

Huddle Up: Dobson isn't on the fantasy radar for this week but he would give Tom Brady another weapon against a tough Ravens' defense if he's able to play Sunday.

New England Patriots WR Aaron Dobson (foot) did not participate in practice Friday, Dec. 6, and has been ruled out for Week 14.

Huddle Up: Dobson didn't play last week and hasn't caught a pass since Week 11. In the meantime, the fantasy stock remains up for fellow WRs Julian Edelman and, to a lesser extent, Danny Amendola.

New England Patriots WR Aaron Dobson (foot) has been ruled out for Week 13 against the Houston Texans after missing practice all week. He has 35 catches, 492 yards and four touchdowns in his rookie season. WR Kenbrell Thompkins (31 catches, 450 yards, four touchdowns) will likely replace Dobson in the lineup.

Huddle Up: This completes a downward trend for Dobson, who only has 4 receptions for 38 yards over his last 2 games after combining for 9-190 and 3 TDs in Weeks 8 & 9.

  • Posted: 10/1/2013 12:35pm ET

New England Patriots WR Aaron Dobson avoided major damage in Week 4 and is dealing with soreness in his back and neck. He underwent an MRI Tuesday, Oct. 1, and his status for Week 5 is unknown.

Huddle Up: Dobson's role and importance in the New England offense will diminish as Rob Gronkowski and Danny Amendola return to action, and if he's unable to play in Week 5 it will cost him one of his few remaining opportunities to have a fantasy impact.
